Mike Smith is about to be become the Bucs new DC under new HC Dirk Koetter.

Not the other way around.

Pete Carroll

Well, out of context I guess it can be confusing. I'll add to it with the original in italics...

I might have been able to include Seahawks Assistant HC/Defense Rocky Seto as a potential DC who is not a potential HC candidate. Despite his Assitant HC title, I don't see teams ready for an Asian HC in this day and age.

I tried to think of another way to say it, but there isn't any. You rarely see Asian players in the league so I'd be shocked to see a person of Asian decent get an offer to be a NFL head coach. It would be a really tough sell. I hope I'm wrong about that as I don't personally have any racist intent here, but that's how I view today's football society and atmosphere. With that in mind, I feel like Gus would be safe bringing Seto over without worrying about the guy one day taking over his job or else moving on to another team who needs a HC. Of course, Seto is also a master of the scheme we're running, and I can't think of a more qualified candidate for the position.

There really hasn't been any notable Asian-American coaches but I don't think a team would have any problem hiring an Asian head coach if he was a good candidate for the job.

He's Asian...he's probably a master of everything. Hire the man.

If I was the type to piss my pants when I heard/read something funny, I would've just pissed my pants.
Y'all know Hines Ward is part Asian right? Will Demps is part Asian. Dat Nguyen is Asian. There was a Kailee Wong, Haruki Nakamura, and others. Obviously, there aren't many in the history, but saying that because they're Asian means they couldn't get the part is the same things people said about black folks prior to. If he's good, he'll get the looks. If he stinks, he won't. I doubt seeing Wang, Wong, Nguyen, Chang, Tran, Trang, or any other Asian decent name would make the decision.

GO JAGS!!

Well move over Rooney rule, as Confucius rule takes effect via Jags02 hot take.
Maybe we can get the pass rush going by calling the play "huddy up and go!"
ok, that was bad...
Well... this went straight to the can....

Hopefully we hear something by this time next week.

Eugene Chung? Talking Asian, not Defensive Co-ordinator...

And there's the classic....Long Ding

Quote:Based on Gus Bradley being in what appears to be a make or break 2016 season, how much influence do you believe Dave Caldwell has regarding who the next Jaguars Defensive Coordinator will be?
Not much. I believe it's written into Gus' contract that he gets to choose his own staff. Caldwell probably says things like, "No, Gus, the guy that plays Colonel Sanders can't be your defensive coordinator," but it's almost entirely in Gus' hands.

Quote: Based on this, the question then becomes would Dave Caldwell putting himself in danger of losing his own job with this approach?
Probably not. Unless things come completely unhinged and Dave stands atop the scoreboard fiddling, I think he gets a second coach.

The 1970's called. They want their logic back.

Dave and Gus were both very transparent about this in Bradley's first offseason in Jax. It's ultimately Bradley's call but they discuss the candidates and the final hire together throughout the process. It's clear that Caldwell has input, and Bradley seems to value it. They both made comments about wanting to be on the same page with coaching staff hires.
