This is good and assuages some of my fears. I wonder how many of them have visions of "interim" dancing in their heads.

I would think that at least some of the people calling him about the opening are former head coaches who are looking for a place to land for a year assuming they don't get tapped to fill one of the vacancies. Kind of like Marrone did last year. Worst case scenario, they are here for a year collecting a check and they're queued up for the carousel next year. Best case from their perspective, Gus gets fired and they step into that head coach role.
I think most guys on the rise will be reluctant to come here because it's a lame duck staff in a prove it year. That would damage their opportunities far more than it would for a seasoned coach looking for a landing spot.

No, what they have dancing in their heads is they are going to take over a defense that will have a lot of new talent next year and therefore the DC will be in line for some HC positions.

This exactly. They are seeing some young hungry talent, some solid vets and the promise of as much free agent talent they can acquire. Once assembled they get credit for the miraculous turn around that occurs because of additional talent and boom. The following year HC offers galore.

probably some guys looking for their big break as well. It's a team on the rise, its an attractive position for a lot of reasons. I just hope they hire someone who at least makes us look respectable haha

He is an extremely well liked guy. He probably interviews well and after having no emotion Mularkey, Gus looked awesome. I think people love him as a person but I haven't seen any good coaching out of him.

Have you watched our defense play on Sundays? Besides the 17 minutes of the bills game and the clots game, this team plays slow, confused, and anything but hungry.

Did you watch Coughlin's farewell presser the other day? Should we take your word as a high school coach as gospel, or someone who has had enjoyed the pinnacle of success at the highest level of professional football? Tough choice.
"What has become extremely important to me, as I've grown in this position, is relationships. Relationships have become the primary objective in my career. I still have a hard time when former players, former players, guys who we battled together, they've been corrected, I've been mad at them, they've been mad at me, and so on and so forth, after a year or two, or sometimes not even that long, they walk up to me and say, 'I love you, coach.'
The need to be friends with the players has never been a point for the current coaching staff here. That's just you twisting facts. Gus isn't trying to be buddies with anyone. He's developing relationships with his players, much the same way Coughlin did during his career. If you read some of the comments from former players both here in Jax and from NY, the general consensus is that they absolutely love the guy. Tom was asked if he had changed as a man during his coaching career, and he said that he hadn't, but that he did evolve as a coach to the extent that he recognized having strong relationships with his players was important. More important than his heavy handed tactics early on here in Jacksonville.
I wouldnt mind Leslie Frazier. Smart guy.

I don't think when your job is basically on the line, that you bring in a new guy, unfamiliar with your scheme, and try to teach it to him.
I wouldn't want lovie here. The Tampa 2 is a bland defense. Our defense now already lacks aggression. We need someone who is familiar with the scheme in some capacity who will come in and make opposing qbs afraid of us instead of feeling like they're taking a nice walk in the park.
