Lovie.
Lovie...

Two birds with one stone if we get Lovie.

We'll have a guy to run the defense, and then someone with enough experience to possibly help/mentor Gus become a true HC

I think Lovie makes a TON of sense. Not to mention it wouldn't be too far of a move for him and his family.

Quote:Will Muschamp

You know what? Muschamp gets a really bad rap and he has earned some of it, but he's a great defensive mind and a tremendous recruiter.

With that said, idk if he would translate outside of college.

In terms of the jags DC, I think it'll wind up being Bradley or Wash and Monte kiffen will likely be a consultant.
And for anyone asking, I read something a few hours ago, I can't remember where, but it said that Gus was open to the new DC making some changes, but was not open to changing the scheme.

So, is Lovie's inflexible love of his Tampa 2 enough of a mismatch to rule him out in Gus' defensive scheme?
Lovie would be at the top of my short list.

They're going to hire a new DC.

Then they're going to get some guys who can rush the passer and a new free safety.

Those new players will make the defense a lot better.

The new DC will get all the credit.

And that is why guys should be lined up around the block to interview for the Jags' DC job.   They will be coaching a vastly improved defense, and that will look really good on their resume.

Yeah obviously Lovie would be the big name to hire. I'm not sure how many other teams need DCs.
There's too many HC jobs out there. He's not going to come down to a DC position.

Quote:Assuming New Orleans takes the interim tag off Dennis Allen, only the Jaguars and Indianapolis have a head coach, but no defensive coordinator.

If I read the same thing you read (a quote from Gus from the press con), he didn't say that he's *not* open to changing the scheme. What he did say however, that we are likely not going to change the scheme because we have drafted and signed players who fit that scheme. Dave however, has stated that he feels that  our "core" guys are scheme diverse and can adapt.

So my view on this is we'll stick with current scheme, unless the new DC brings in a new scheme where our players can be a good or better fit.

Quite possible he waits and jumps onto a team that hires a new coach, but if it's us vs. Indy, that's not even competition IMO.  Our front office is WAY better and it's not like their defense is that great.

Boring cover 2 zone defense philosophy. Pass.
I cannot say the name Lovie unless I am using the voice of the immortal Thurston Howell III portrayed by Jim Backus.

It usually is spelled: mmLoveeeeeyyy

Who is Muschamp recruiting for in NFL?  Muschamp would be not a good hire in my view. No Pro experience, no thanks

No Thanks

no Lovie

no Muschump

no no no

Most likely. Sorry I don't have the exact quote. I really don't have a clue where I was when I saw it but it said that Gus was already at work finding the replacement and he was set on keeping the same scheme.

I think that definitely eliminates lovie.

Sure he is. I don't see anyone lining up to hire a guy who was just fired from his second head coaching gig in three years. Reasons for it aside, and no matter how ridiculous the firing was, it's a bad look for any owner to try and pass off to the fans as a great move. He'll either be out of the league this year waiting for another shot, or he'll take a coordinator job. I hope he takes the coordinator gig, and I hope it's here.
