Is it just me or do others think we need to hire an actual DC for the position? I'd rather not promote a position coach to come take care of our terrible defense. This guy has zero experience in the DC role.

Maybe if this was year 1 or 2 of the rebuild, but on year 4 and possibly Gus's last year, they need to be shooting for a bigger name or resume.

Perhaps this is Gus's way of getting a puppet so he can run the D himself. If so, I'm ok with that.
@ryanohalloran Source confirms #Jaguars interviewing Jerome Henderson today ... adds Monte Kiffin is in town and "involved in process," of finding new DC.

Given Kiffin's history with Carroll - I kind of guess he may be there to help sell Bradley's version of Carroll's scheme to the candidates being interviewed. Or help assess their ability to mesh with Bradley's philosophy.

A bit of a wild hunch on my part - but it makes sense.

interesting. He must be an up and comer.

I think you're right on with the bolded part. Also considering Henderson worked under Kiffin in Dallas, he could be selling him to Bradley too.

Or it could of been a case of the rooney rule interview.

I don't see an issue with promoting a guy on the rise, especially when the coach he'd be working for has the experience as a coordinator. Mike Smith wasn't a DC prior to taking over the Jags defense when Del Rio hired him. That worked out fine.

The fact that Kiffin is actually involved in this process is something I find particularly interesting. It shows me that Gus is serious about getting the right guy.

that only applies to head coaching positions
Quote:His style is showing some age, but you do realize that his success came in the 2000s, right?
Don't make Bklyn do math. His head might explode.

Another swing and a miss.

Pretty sure he means for the Browns job.

Could've sworn Marquand Manuel was a minority.
Quote:Monte Kiffin is in Jax too apparently. Possibly to work alongside Henderson?
Would love that, wouldnt want Kiffin as the DC since he is so old, but would love Kiffin as an assistant
Quote:Kiffin, the source said, isn’t a candidate for the coordinator opening but has been “involved,” in the process to find a replacement for Bob Babich, who was fired Jan. 5.

 • Billy Davis

 • Todd Wash

 • Lovie Smith

 • Jim Tomsula

 • Jerry Gray

 • Rocky Seto

 • Steve Wilks

 • Fred Pagac

One this is for sure with Henderson, we wouldn't be sitting back in a cupcake zone all game
But to those inside the stadium, the search is going pretty much as planned. Bradley wanted to talk to multiple outside coaches (which he has), all the while keeping Wash atop his list.

49ers are actually interviewing Mike Vrabel today for their DC position, so Mangini may be on the way out.
