Quote:I'd still contend that Gene Smith was probably a far better scout than anyone on this board. Doesn't mean he was a good personnel guy. He felt he needed to show everyone he was the smartest guy in the room, so he'd draft outliers that, had they panned out, would have backed him up. Didn't happen, and he's gone, but feel free to cling to that if it makes you happy.
You're literally doing the same things you accuse TMD of doing. Just back tracking on everything you say or have said. Gene Smith was terrible. Only 2 players are left on this team from his regime and he was fired 2 years ago....
You seem to be a sheep to me. You just follow whatever the herd (management) is saying... Have a tough time forming an opinion of your own. Thats cool. Some people are like that.
Quote:So...........is Bradley in over his head?
I don't think its even a question anymore.
His Coordinator hires/ mostly bad assistant hires suggested it, and his management/ coaching since that point has proven it.

Gene Smith was a lousy GM. He wasn't a bad scout. There is a difference. Good job with continuing the thread hijack.
So, now you're flinging insults too? Hypocrisy runs strong.
I'm letting this thing play out. Regarding the Bradley hires, I was a bit skeptical last season bringing in a DB coach that just got fired from NM State after giving up 40 points per game. That said, I honestly don't feel that way anymore. Perhaps it's the addition of Bortles or something but it's beginning to feel like we may actually have a real football team on the horizon.
Quote:They already have more wins this season then they had all of last season.
O Brien > Bradley
Yeah....but they were 'tanking'....right?
Quote:Hoyer's first slip up and Manziel is in there. They gotta be itching to start him by now.
Why? He didn't exactly have a good pre-season.

BTW, isn't it ironic that you accuse me of hijacking this thread, and you bring up Gene Smith? Hypocrite much?
I would certainly hope that he's a better scout than anyone on this board. Otherwise it's time for the NFL to reevaluate how they hire scouts. I also doubt that anyone here puts as much time into scouting players as Gene did. If they did, they might end up doing better than him in that regard too.
And being better than anyone on this board isn't exactly a high standard to hold him to.
As a GM, Smith was lousy. A monkey drawing picks out randomly based on evaluations of sports-journalists would do better. Walterfootball would have done better. But I repeat myself! And that's why we're in the position we're in. There's just not that many Gene picks we want to keep (and the ones we do, are players of lesser impact such as Brian Anger)

O Brien is a good head coach. Much better than Tony Robbins.

Thats just the typical Bradley hire on his staff. Babich sucked as DC of Chicago and was demoted from that perch, and Bradley hires him for DC...
I'll agree that our ROSTER is indeed shaping up and getting more talented as each offseason goes by since Caldwell got here.....but the coaching is still as terrible as the recent predecessors.

I didn't know Tony Robbins coached football.
Oh wait...I get it..it was a joke...and not even your own.
Nice guys don't win championships. Ask Pete Carroll. Oh...wait...
Bradley won more games his first year, than Mularkey did too. And that was without a J.J. Watt caliber player on the team. I imagine if we had J.J. Watt here (who is arguably the best player in the NFL right now), we'd see our team doing much better too.

And Cushing..and Foster...and Johnson...

Pete Carroll had loads of head coaching experience prior to his winning a title in Seattle.
Gus? Zero, prior to getting hired here.

Saying he's a good scout isn't exactly a ringing endorsement for his GM abilities. He fell significantly short on being the guy making the decisions as opposed to the one making recommendations.

We may not have a JJ Watt on our DL, but this roster isn't as bad as the Bradley excusemakers want to make it out to be.

You should steer clear of trying to be clever. Leave that to people who can.

Excuse makers? Really struggling aren't you?
Most here would agree the roster isn't bad. It's just young and inexperienced. You get the difference, right?
Quote:They were starting an inexperienced undrafted free agent at QB instead of the team's all time leader, for a reason other than injury. They may not have been playing to lose, but they were not fielding their best team, so I'd call that 'tanking.'
If your point was that O'Brien's winning with a team that should be a lot better than they were last year is not proof of his competence, then I agree.
What has their former QB done since being benched? He was done. They didn't bench him to tank. They benched him because he sucked. Being the all time leader and all that good stuff is irrelevant if your skills have fallen off a cliff.

Name all the players (sans Bortles) that would be starters on at least half of the other NFL Teams.
