Quote:Pittsburgh's pass rush really isn't all that anymore....they didn't even have their best LB (Shazier) playing....

But I agree....if we continue to see Bortles doing his best Henne impression with all the dinks and dunks these past 1 & a half games then we got big problems.
We've had big problems for 7 years now!  I wouldn't worry too much about Bortles, he'll be fine.

The worry was about coaching ruining Bortles (reducing him into a game manager) not any worry on my part about Bortles actual ability/ ceiling. I know he's very good. But I also know that these first 2-3 years of development are crucial. If we do this wrong a top 5 potential might end up just another average game manager who plays not to lose rather than is aggressive.
Bortles will be fine, but I've never been a "Gus Juice" guy. I like to wait and see before I hop on the GM/Coach bandwagons and so far, I'm pretty indifferent to Gus.

My biggest problem with Caldwell and Bradley is that I get the feeling they believe they have forever to get this thing right. It's not a rush, but progress in the NFL should not be a slow process.

Thats not gonna happen, not his style.  He needs time to grow with his fellow rookies and learn the NFL game. Again, don't worry about him, he'll be fine.
Let me get this straight.  The coaching staff is "ruining Bortles" because he looked so great in preseason against 2's and 3's in a vanilla offense, and now that he is playing against actual NFL talent (and pretty good talent I might add) he has "regressed" into looking like... and NFL quarterback.

Gabbert of preseasons looked just as bad as Gabbert of regular seasons.

Just like Bortles of preseason looked just as good as Bortles of regular season (until halftime in San Diego) as well as Bortles his last year at UCF.

If you choose to not see Fisch's play calling the past 6 quarters as making the QB very Henne/ game manager-like, then have at it.
I see your patience didn't last long...

That agenda was itching to get out.

Sup bruh.... Welcome back. Mods going crazy with that suspension button huh? Power hungry.... But I digress.

It really does look like this team should be better than 0-5. Browns And Jets have won a game or two and I feel like we should have had at least one win by now. The only part of this coaching staff I didn't like was the decision to start Henne at the beginning. That has clearly hindered this team. Imagine him starting against the Eagles and Skins. I think we would have beaten both teams if I'm being honest. Defense gets more rest in the Skins game and Bortles helps close out against the Eagles.

I'm willing to give this thing a better shot against teams of equal talent (titans, texans, browns and dolphins) to really gauge where this team is. Can't expect to beat the top dawgs just yet and when we did (chargers) I actually thought we played ok despite 2 big plays.

TMD, this comment proves that you haven't watched Bortles, or you don't know what you're watching.

Bortles has been anything but Henne, and if you can't understand that, then there's no reason to consider your opinion on the subject.

I'm sure Fisch also told Blake to check out of runs to passes too.

Ever stop to think for a moment that teams had very little REAL tape on the Jaguars with Bortles under center?  I know this is far fetched, but perhaps the Chargers' organization/players are good enough to make adjustments to what the team is doing.

Seriously dude, I like that you are back to posting because I need a good laugh every now and then.

Yes, your notes are accurate!
I haven't been impressed with Gus or Dave yet, either. I know it's only year two, so Super Bowl aspirations are obviously unreasonable. But my word, I think some improvement isn't too much to ask for. I'd KILL for a 6 win season at this point! So the pass rush has taken a couple of steps forward this year, which is nice, but the secondary (returning all starters) has taken several steps back.

You can tell Gus is/was a rookie head coach as he has made some questionable decisions on the field. Not calling a timeout to reset the defense, then he does call a timeout to give the opposing offense a break, and some of the playing time of players has me questioning if he is seeing what everybody else sees. Why isn't Ryan Davis playing? What took so long to pull the plug on Henne? Why wasn't Bowanko starting from the beginning?

I get the whole building through the draft philosophy, but you HAVE to supplement free agents in as well and I think we have dropped the ball there. I know we have been burned by big name FAs several times in the past, but that doesn't mean the only FAs we can sign are undrafted rookies and journeymen who couldn't make most teams.

I've believed in them from the start, don't get me wrong. So far, the only thing done to keep me believing is the Bortles pick. Then again, he is the most important player on the team right now.

Hate to break this to you, but all that early success he had, Fisch was still the OC and still calling the plays.  How can you twist that fact to a bash?
The thing i dont understand is they admitted that short passes were his weakness before the season started. This brings up two questions: why are you calling a short passing attack? And if you were planning on building your scheme around the short pass, why woulf you draft a guy like that.

Again, another example of this front office/coaching staff having no idea what kind of identity they want. NOTHING IS GOING TO PLAN
And didnt we already determine that zone blocking wasnt working in the running game last year?

I'd say 21 games is enough "patience" for me regarding the Gus issue.

4-17 with a 31st and 32nd ranking in defense/ offense, respectively.

I agree that Bortles wasn't anything like Henne......until the last 6 Q of football. He even had a pass batted down at the LOS last week, for good measure in the Henne impersonation. Laughing

Sorry dude, I do have eyes, and I can see that this offense since the half of the Charger game has been night and day different that what preceded it with Bortles at the helm. The offense the last six quarters looks very much like the offense the first 2.5 games of this regular season.

I'm not blaming Blake, so I don't know if you're getting defensive about that - my beef is with the [BLEEP] Offensive Coordinator that isn't letting Blake be Blake and calling plays that jive with Blake's strengths. (which he was doing up to that point).

Exactly.

Call plays that suit Bortles strengths. Thats what they ironically WERE doing and went way from.

The last six quarters were trying to jam a square peg into a round hole. Fisch be like YOU WILL RUN MY [BLEEP] OFFENSE, I WONT CONFORM TO YOUR STRENGTHS ANYMORE!

Well the good news is when Blake and this offense LIGHT UP the tacks this weekend, hopefully all this silliness will stop.
