Quote:Never mind the injuries. Every player gets hurt at some point. The problem is Shorts does not have as much talent as other receivers in the NFL who don't want to come to Jacksonville.
This is probably one of the most ignorant comments you've ever infected us with on this board.
You and the dog whimperer are made for each other.

Oh come on, how could you possibly rank them?

I know. It's a tough call, but let's just say that it's a tie.

I'll go with that. Because I sure as hell wouldn't want to go back and read any of them again.
Quote:First deep attempt Sunday. Hurns runs the wrong route, Blake takes a hard hit and it's nearly an INT. Definitely should have done THAT more.

You need to stop discounting the rookie being a rookie and also consider the starting WR lineup of Rookie, Undrafted Rookie, Brown.
Mistakes will happen on those deeper plays once in awhile. Let them happen. The only way you get better on these is through repetition.
The deeper routes need to happen on a more consistent basis (I'd say average one per quarter or so) or else the defense will be sitting all over the Jags offense like it did in the past 6 quarters of football. (2nd half Chargers/ 4 Q of Steelers)
Quote:I'll also say that Jedd's playcalling probably isn't a result of Bortles interceptions, and more a result of our young WR's. It's not that he doesn't trust Bortles, it's that he doesn't trust the receivers. Who are mostly Rookies, who have run the wrong routes at times. I don't think the playcalling will ultimately turn Bortles Henne-like. He's not going to regress because of hampered playcalling. He doesn't seem like that type of player to me.
I know people hate bringing up Manning, but I'm going to do it anyway:
In his first year, Manning had some pretty weak YPA games, including a sub 4 YPA against the Dolphins.
Dumb the routes down if you temporarily have to - but throwing mostly everything short as they have in the past 6 Quarters sn't doing any favors for Bortles or the offense as a whole.
Quote:Mmm. Okay.
FYI - Bortles took the blame for checking out of that play that ended in a pick 6.
He took the blame for the audible yes. IMO, thats like blaming a damn bursting on a heavy rain rather than the failed inspection leading up to that event 6 months prior.
The pick 6 happened IMO, because the culmination of too many shorter pass routes that the defense finally jumped one do to the predictability of where the ball was going.
Quote:This thread made history. This is the first time I've ever heard that a guy has regressed in his rookie season.
Regress as to his style of play - if you can't see a difference from the gunslinger we saw in his first 5 appearances to a closer to Henne-like thing over the past 6 QUarters then I can't help you.
I'm guessing they are getting on him too much over the INT's which is causing him to be more reluctant to throw as many deeper passes as the first 5 appearances or the plays called have changed, for the same/ similar reason.
In either case, its (shorting the length of pass attempts) not helping Bortles succeed.
Quote:Throwing poo at the wall again I see.
Gus said pretty much the exact opposite. They want him to make better decisions but don't want to put fear in his game and neuter his aggressiveness.

Gus' rhetoric is just that. I remember Jack Del Rio also saying "no more 3 yards and a cloud of dust" offense, when that kind of offense was EXACTLY the kind he preferred.
I'll go by what I see the QB doing on the field.
Bortles looks to be neutered over the last 6 Quarters of football.
Quote:I'll go with that. Because I sure as hell wouldn't want to go back and read any of them again.
Agreed. The cranial pain would be unbearable.
Quote:This isnt the preseason, teams gameplan and the rookies have not adjusted to it just yet.
They really dont have anyone who can stretch the field. Teams watch film and adjust and if Hurns is the guy they are relying on to constantly stretch the field then I would throw it short too. Right now the Jags are getting crushed after half time because teams are adjusting to tem and the Jags are adjusting themselves. To me that is on the coaching but also the personal.
Hurns can stretch the field. He's gotten open deep lots of times already. vs. Redksins/ Eagles/ San Diego....
The shorter routes were getting jumped multiple times. I am surprised we didn't see any out and ups to catch the CB's out of position.
Quote:Hurns can stretch the field. He's gotten open deep lots of times already. vs. Redksins/ Eagles/ San Diego....
Problem is, he often runs the wrong route.
What did you get banned for TMD? I was wondering where you were. I missed angry FBT.....
Quote:Hurns can stretch the field. He's gotten open deep lots of times already. vs. Redksins/ Eagles/ San Diego....
Hurns gets past the defense with good route running and a nice double move. If he's running the wrong routes, as evidenced in the picture, he's not going to get open.

That has to be one of the most idiotic analogies I've ever seen on this board. He took the blame because he screwed up. He didn't anticipate that the safety would jump the route. He said so repeatedly himself.
Again, you're blaming the coaches here, but he's the one who checked out of the play. He's the one who didn't run the play that was called, and the end result was a pick 6. I know you've got your grip firmly around his ankle as you desperately try to pass the buck on to someone else so that you can push your new "I HATE GUS BRADLEY" agenda. I get it. It's what you do. You're incapable of thinking beyond your agenda, so carry on with your "LOOK AT ME!!!!" effort here.
Quote:Hurns can stretch the field. He's gotten open deep lots of times already. vs. Redksins/ Eagles/ San Diego....
And he's dropped more than his fair share of passes when he is open.
Quote:Hurns gets past the defense with good route running and a nice double move. If he's running the wrong routes, as evidenced in the picture, he's not going to get open.
You're not helping here. Hurns is the greatest receiver ever. He gets open when he wills it. If he doesn't feel like it, he's not, and since Bradley is telling Fisch to call nothing but short passes, it all comes back to Gus.
Quote:Did it ever dawn on you that the reason there are so many short passes is that the deep ones are covered well by good defenses??
I mean he isnt playing our defense. :teehee:
This is the NFL, if you see a one on one deep you attack it - Open in the NFL is different than "open" on college or the playground.
You think every time Luck, Rivers or Manning completes a deeper pass its because the WR is wide open?? No, in a lot of those instances its a one on one battle that the QB threw it up there and gave the WR a chance to win the battle.
Avoiding such throws/ chances and throwing everything short culminates in Henne ball that we've seen for the past 6 quarters of football. Bortles has the arm talent to complete those passes. And we have the WR to complete them, but you only get better through repetition - not by avoidance.
Quote:Hurns can stretch the field. He's gotten open deep lots of times already. vs. Redksins/ Eagles/ San Diego....
I llike what Hurns brings to the table and think he has serious potential but he has some dicey mitts. This lends credence to the
possibility that the OC may not have faith in the receivers to either run the correct route or catch the ball.
I kind of get what you're saying and you may not be totally wrong in your assessment, but I think where you're going wrong is trying to lay all of the blame at the feet of the coach and his coordinators when there seems to be plenty to go around....just sayin'.
Quote:Problem is, he often runs the wrong route.
Only; because Gus is holding him back, so he does what he wants out there to stretch the field.
Quote:The shorter routes were getting jumped multiple times. I am surprised we didn't see any out and ups to catch the CB's out of position.
Thats poor coaching/ OC-ing not to.

How is a girl supposed to push an agenda when people like you are constantly raining on their parade? Would you please refrain from using logic in responding to the diva?
Uhhhh!!! "Luck, Rivers, Manning" passes the football to more experienced WR's don't you think? WR who have a little better idea of timing.
