Desperate move to a hire a coach no one has wanted in years.

Never seen a 3 week hiatus between serious interviews - ever - it reeks of desperation... hey our first choices said NO because Baalke is an [BLEEP] faced piece of garbage...

Pederson realizes that literally NO team even wants to TALK to him.... so he takes this job.

Nobody wants a Superbowl winner ? Who cares, he is ours now

You're so obviously posting as a plant that I think you must be.  Few trolls can maintain such elegant consistency.  If you are a troll then my hat is off to you.  Well done.

Really not. But c'mom, his skillset must have something to show for advancing into such a plum position. He's not a people person, so for that job it has to be evaluation. Was last year his only draft with the Jags? It yielded at least 5 starters. Am I wrong?

Guess I missed all those serious interviews he's had since being fired in Philly.
I'm not sure anyone has a major problem with Pederson as a HC. He knows QBs and can really help to develop Trevor (which is the #1 goal). He hired Frank Reich who gets a lot of the credit for that SB run but clearly Doug knows how to find good people. If they end up bringing Spielman in the building, even better.

My issue (and many others issue) stems from the overall terrible hiring process. The Jags looked like they had no clue what they were doing from the start. They asked to interview O'Connell but its like they had no clue they had to wait until after the SB. Why show your cards? The Leftwich situation was terrible. The Biscaccia situation was terrible. Shad leaving to go on vacation in the middle of a search shows he just doesn't care but to top it all off, they still have Baalke.

I really hope Pederson can turn this around and I don't think that's truly going to happen until Baalke is gone.

One year is 'years'?

Interesting.

Would have preferred Byron, but Pederson was my #2 choice.  I can't be that disappointed.  Hopefully they find a way to dump Baalke and get some good coordinators.

Lmao
now we just wait to see what happens in season. do jags go from 3 wins ot 5,or down to 1 or 2 wins again,or maybe even shock the fans, and go 8-9. who knows what will happen. Jags could even go 7-10.

They defeinttly wo't go 17-0 so don't expect that at all. Jags will lose games.

Bears, Vikings, and Broncos were interested but I think it's clear he wanted to work with Trevor and Spielman.  He's not one of these young desperate guys trying to become a first time HC.  He took a little time away because of his brother's death and a few other things.  He learned se things from his last HC job were he won a SB.  Time for the Jags to get on their path to their 1st.  [BLEEP] yeah

That's the advantage of an experienced head coach with a lot of relationships- plenty of candidates for coordinators and position coaches, because they know him.
Also, if they made me choose a HC knowing Baalke is gonna stay (obviously I want Baalke gone) Pederson would have been my #1 choice. No way I bring a young guy like O'Connell or Leftwich to work with Baalke.

It still seems like Spielman is coming but we'll see.

oof. That's not good, especially if he's in consideration for any other openings elsewhere.
That's a move that a veteran coach might be able to get away with.

All I know is that my mental image is that he is Rip Taylor's doppleganger, and I will be sorely disappointed if I ever see photos that cancel my imagined reality.

How fun would it be though if the playbook spewed confetti every time we opened it?

Schwartz means we'd be going back to a 4-3 with a lot of wide 9 alignments.

"rebuild" is the team's mission statement.

good gravy would that be an awful hire.
I expect the announcement by Monday.

Good point. We better hope for Fangio or the linebackers coach rumored from Tampa, Mike Caldwell, as both would keep the 3-4. I'd much prefer Fangio because he's realistically not getting another HC shot, but he's a top-5 D-coordinator.

Agreed.  With Byron it would of been a 1st time HC, 1st time GM, 1st time OC, 1st time DC.  Not what the worst time in the league over the last 2 seasons need.  Lol

I knew.

Plenty of good coaches were "scrubs" during their playing days.

Tony Dungy
Sean Payton
Mike Vrabel
Frank Reich

Kubiak, Cowher, Schottenheimer, too.

Two recent OC hires fit that bill, too, in Ken Dorsey and Mike Kafka.
I'm not going to believe Pederson is the head coach until Belichik sends him a congrats text to confirm it.
