I don't live in Jax so where they play doesn't matter much to me but... 4 year plan? So 4 years of playing at a different site? Yikes.... that seems insanely long for local fans. Although I suppose if they play well it'll make it all more palatable
I’m torn as a season ticket holder living in Jax. Part of me thinks the sooner the better and then I think the nicer the better. One big thing on my mind is playing away from Jacksonville at a time when expectations are pretty high with the team and the years leading into Trevor’s contract.
Ultimately the team staying in Jax for the foreseeable future is the optimal outcome for me.

2 year plan is play outside of the stadium, 4 year plan is playing in the stadium while the repairs happen

They could also build a small stadium of ~40,000 if they wanted to for less than the cost to relocate elsewhere. UNF would have to approve that though and they may not want it. Although free stadium may be good enough to get them to do it.

This will be the first big hurdle for Donna Deegan once she takes office. Thankfully, she’s behind it 100%. She’ll have to leverage her notoriety and local hometown girl chops to convince voters for passage.
I also think it would be helpful if the city had someone accompany Lamping with his town hall meetings to reinforce just how important this deal would be for the future.

Not surprising it is 2 to1 against. I am not sure any city would buy the "we are playing else where for 2 years AND you need to ante up 850 million or 1 billion. The city impact of those 2 years away were tied to the last agreement so they just renege on that deal?

I'm beginning to lean toward the Daytona option IF they can figure out a temporary seating situation that makes sense and they get some help from the NFL moving the home games later in the season.
The I-95 proximity makes it attractive from a convenience standpoint.
The neutrality of the site makes it attractive compared to Orlando's history as a hotbed for negative Jags media.
(and to a lesser degree - good for the anti-gator folks in JagLand, but Gainesville doesn't really bug me and I hate the gaturdz.)

The NFL will have to approve it as well. I don’t know what their criteria is but my guess is locker room amenities and trainer/medical facilities being priorities.
I-95 would definitely be an easier commute than a crowded 301.

True, but anywhere they relocation in North Florida they will spend a crap load of money preparing for those 2 years and the city loses the impact. It would sell a lot better locally if they spent that same cash upgrading something locally. Daytona is a race track they don't want a stadium inside that oval blocking views. Orlando is the enemy, I just don't want to hear them crowing about TL and playoff games there. A large portion of the city would not appreciate that cash face lifting Gainesville or Tallahassee. However, spending that same cash helping UNF or JU upgrade their facilities that could be also used for soccer, field hockey Lacrosse etc would go over better. It keeps the project money and impact here. OR just go with the 4 year plan and keep the games here along with not risking Fls/GA and cancelling the Taxslayer Bowl.

That place is awesome. We just did Rockville last month over there. Plenty of room to make it work. They had four or five stages set up, vendors, tents, etc. It was fun walking across the actual race track to get inside the festival.

The 2 year deal will get approved based on they want to build a stadium as fast as possible because they want to get in on some of these high profile events.

I also have this concern. Maybe someone smarter than me can answer this. Couldn’t this just be put into the mayors budget, which would prevent a city-wide vote? When exactly would the people of Jacksonville get a vote on this? If it raised taxes?

It's great for racing, concerts, fairs, etc but not for NFL. Locker rooms, showers, etc are an issue.

Ad space on grass that only a blimp can see is almost worthless. All the video boards and ribbons that aren't there will lose money for the Jags.
Daytona is a good option only because of distance. I don't see most people traveling that far to begin with for every game. Specially if it is a 4pm game or night game. Then you have people needing rides or a hotel or there will be a ton of DUIs.
UNF should work with the Jags and city to see what can be done.

The people won't vote on it unless a new tax is needed. The city council or whatever it they are called will vote on it. They are supposed to vote how the people in their district want them too, although we know that doesn't always happen. So if most of the people are against it and very vocal, then they may not vote for it. There have been a few holdouts for lot j that have killed things in the past.
