Quote:It's close on paper, but Allen's injuries make it Solomon comfortably.
I think Solomon was clearly the better, more explosive player even before this combine.
For someone that is big on measurables - how far down do you drop Allen after his combine?

I'm down to Thomas or Adams

Don't count out Leonard

For me to go DL at #3, I keep thinking he's got to be JJ Watt, Khalil Mack or at least Ziggy Ansah. So let's compare...

Solomon Thomas - 6' 2 3/4", 273 lbs, 4.69 40, 35" vert, 10' 6" broad, 6.95 3-cone, 4.28 20-yd shuttle, 30 reps

JJ Watt - 6' 5 3/8", 290 lbs, 4.91 40, 37" vert, 10' 1" broad, 6.88 3-cone, 4.21 20-yd shuttle, 34 reps

Khalil Mack - 6' 2 5/8", 251 lbs, 4.65 40, 40" vert, 10' 9" broad, 7.08 3-cone, 4.18 20-yd shuttle, 23 reps

Ziggy Ansah - 6' 5 1/4", 271 lbs, 4.63 40, 34 1/2" vert, 9' 10" broad, 7.11 3-cone, 4.26 20-yd shuttle, 21 reps

Looking at these numbers, I don't see where he's over-the-top or anything, but he's in the general ballpark here.

3-cone and broad jump are arguably the most important drills there, but combine numbers shouldn't be how we're comparing him. You draft a guy based on traits and his skillset, not stats or combine numbers.

I'm not exactly sure how this RAS formula is done, but it was retweeted by Joe Goodberry who everyone likes a lot including myself...so I'll trust it is at least decent. Thomas is very much on par with the studs that aren't JJ Watt...because he's the all time GOAT workout.

Just give me Solomon and Derek Rivers and my soul will leave my body
03-05-2017, 08:01 PM
Its possible Thomas won't even make it to our pick anymore smh.
03-05-2017, 08:07 PM
Solomon Thomas put up similar numbers to Mack and he's 22 pounds heavier. That's what you have to keep in mind.
Anyway, if he's there, Thomas should unquestionably be the pick now sans Myles Garrett somehow making it to the pick.

So the consensus is Thomas now? He's definitely been the guy I've liked the most.

A safety has no where near the impact a pass rusher does on defense.

Quote:A safety has no where near the impact a pass rusher does on defense.True, but i feel we will have a much improved pass rush this year with Fowler, Yannick, and Day going in their 2nd full seasons. If we can add an all pro safety to the mix would be lovely and I feel the 2nd best player in the draft

Seems most likely. FA will tell a lot. If we get a replacement for Cyp then I'd say we're definitely going pass rush over safety. If we end up trading for Richardson and don't fill the SS spot well...

Its highly unlikely but of if the first 3 teams dont like the QBs and the draft falls like this.
1.Browns - Garrett
2 49ers - Thomas
3.Bears - Adams
4.Jags - ?

It makes much more sense to sign a FA safety and draft a pass rusher at 4.
