How do you know?

I told them it is OK.
I just heard Greg Olson is in a biker gang
Quote:And why don't you just watch games online for free? Inferior computer?

Viruses galore and they keep crash and it's low quality, I have to pay for gamepass on my laptop aswel £32 pm admittedly only for. 4 months to watch all jags games here in the uk
How do you get the pound symbol on your computer?

Quote:I was like you once. Full of bright-eyed optimism and hope for the new regime, because according to health experts I've now lived over half of my life and I want to see this team win the big one before I die. But with middle-age comes new wisdom and experiences and you quickly learn that when things like this happen almost nothing good comes of it. This hire had all the pleasant feeling of a prostate exam and to try to spin it any other way is straight lying to yourself.

Maybe in your wise old age, you should have picked up some better reading comprehension.  He asked why everyone thinks he's such a bad hire.  Nowhere did he say anything about him.

I'm probably pretty similar to Hodor up there.  I don't know much about him.  Obviously you  guys know a lot.  So I'll the question again.  Why do you dislike him so much?

His long, horrible track record of failure as an offensive coordinator.

...

The one thing I did like in that video was Olson's desire to stretch the field and make some deep throws. Hopefully that will carry over to his playbook here more.
Quote:Kinda feels like Gus wants to be an assistant coach somewhere else with this hire. And usually I'm the first to laugh off the conspiracy theorists, but now I'm even starting to be leary of Khan's intentions with this franchise.
Who wouldn't? I think you some of you don't realize what Jacksonville is.

and what is that broskie?
Wow, I didn't realize how many hard core Jaguar/Raider fans we had in the Jungle.  So I'm assuming everyone that hates the Olson hire watches the Jaguars at 1PM Eastern then watches the Raiders play at 4PM EVERY SUNDAY.

I'm unfortunately not one of those fans.  I can't stand the raiders organization.  With that said, I watched a 4th quarter they played and a 1st half they played against the chiefs.

Carr looks good.  The 4th Quarter I watched they got into the red zone, ran 2 good plays and scored a TD.

So while I know nothing more about Olson than that, I'm optimistic.  Gase was an unknown.  Olson has been there and done that.  David Carr has less upside than BB5, played for an equally bad offense and looked very good.

Why so much over-reaction?

I mean, I know, we didn't hire Tresman or Lane Kiffen, or Bill Walsh, but we also didn't hire Mike Shannahan, Dirk Cutter, or some other bad OC.

Apparently I'm in the minority on this one.  But I just have to rely on the fact that the 1 major positive for the guy is how he developed David Carr.

Somebody listed all the jobs he had and the offense's rank while he was the coach...

He coached for the Bucs, Rams, and Raiders....  His offenses ranked on average in the low 20s...  Consider that he coached the Bucs, Rams, and Raiders---them there are some pretty darn good stats!!!

I mean, the Bucs, Rams, and Raiders!!!  It's not like he was coaching teams with tons of talent and winning cultures...

So just checked the Raider's Offensive stats...  They are slightly better than us in pass yards...  That's about it...

Kinda concerning...

That Carr kid, Derek David, whatever, he looked good as a rookie, though...

Olson and Marrone both working on the offense...  Could be a thing where 2 heads are better than one...  Olson focus on the QB, Marrone work on game planning?

Maybe that's what the plan is?

I don't know enough about the inner workings of Olson's career to say one way or the other about how he will work out here as our OC...

With that said, I'm glad we didn't bring Dirk Cutter back...  I'm glad we didn't get little Mikey Shannahan...  So that right there means, I think we did better than 2 teams.

Olson's track record isn't great, that is true.  But maybe that's why bringing in Marone with Olson will work out.  2 guys working the offense and collaborating on how to best use our players and best attack the defense may, by god, get things done.

All we can do is wait till August to see who things begin to pan out.

Quote:He left Buffalo because some idiot gave him a contract that paid him $4 million to walk away. I wouldn't call the guy a coward, but I could see how that would give pause to some fans (and front offices).
Totally. I just think OP goes entirely too far. He's not a coward or a snake, he just didn't want to be there anymore and still got paid.
Gus Bradley is officially a loser like the OC he just hired, just fire him now and save our troubles next season, we are cursed.

Quote:You're defending a QB coach by saying his QBs are bad? There's 2 first rounders and an early second on that list.
I'm not pumped up, or defending the hire by any means. I'm just saying, it's not like he had great, or even good QBs to work with. Whether they were 1st round picks or UDFAs, it doesn't matter. They were/are not good.

Carr is still TBD for obvious reasons, but don't try and act like Olson had a bunch to work with on the other 3.
He'll be fired after we go 5-11 and another mediocre year

But how do we know if the QBs were bad because of a lack of talent or because of bad coaching? If it was a year or two then sure, I could believe that it was a lack of talent. But Olson has had TEN YEARS of terrible offenses. At that point all I care about is the results. It's like John Fox. I have people trying to tell me he's a bad coach. He's had 13 years as a HC, won 57% of his games, won 8 playoff games, made 2 super bowls + 1 championship game, has 6 seasons of 11+ wins, won 6 division titles and has only one season with less than seven wins. With that much data, he's a good coach, period. Olson has had ten years of bad offenses with four different teams. I don't care how or why.

In 06, with the Rams they had the 6th ranked Offense in the NFL and the 3rd ranked Passing Offense. They had legit weapons with Holt, Bruce and Jackson at RB. Jackson posted career highs, as well as Bulger that year. That was far and away the best weapons he has ever had in his coaching career.
