Quote:Bulger had 3 hall of famers on his offense: Isaac Bruce, Torry Holt, and Orlando Pace. Not to mention Steven Jackson in his prime. He had a very good offensive line in Pace, Steussie, Incognito, Timmerman, and Barron. You can try and sugar coat it all you want and act like he did more with less there, but that team was loaded, if aging, on offense.
In the season you're referring to where the Rams offense fell off, Holt had almost 1,200 yards receiving.

Isaac Bruce missed several games but still put up more than 700 yards receiving.

Orlando Pace went on the IR after the first game of that season after missing 8 games the year before.  When he was injured in that 2nd season, the reports made it clear that his injury would jeopardize the entire offense, which turned out to be true.

Steussie had a foot injury that season that was severe enough that the Rams offered him an injury settlement prior to the start of the season.  He was re-signed by the team in week 12 after he was fully recovered from the foot surgery that was performed to fix the issue.

Incognito was deactivated for the first 4 games that season.  When he came back, he started 4 games before suffering a knee injury that put him on the IR.

The Rams released Timmerman in the February after the 2006 season.  He wasn't even on that line for Olson's second year there as OC.  He retired after not finding any team looking to sign him following the 2007 season.

Alex Barron was the only guy who played the entire season.

Steven Jackson put up over 1,000 yards rushing that season as well.

Bulger was hammered with injuries during that season as well after signing the largest contract in the history of the Rams coming off that 4300 yard season.  His struggles were attributed not only to HIS injuries, but to multiple injuries across the offensive line including Pace.

Feel free to point out how the drop off on the offense was somehow Olson's fault.  He got a decent amount of production out of his guys despite a rash of injuries that season.  Doesn't look like poor coaching was to blame, but that's just me.

There's a reason you can't always just look at standings and make a determination.  There's usually context behind the numbers that explain what happened to a team. That is clearly the case with the Rams in the second season under Olson.

Glazer doesn't have a clue!  Harrumph!
This guy sucks and has made a career of sucking a little less than the guy who sucks the most.  There is no wait and see, there is no the book is out on the guy.  They are who we thought they were.

It'll be completely on Bortles and the line if this offense resembles anything like a top 20 offense.

So it's on the players to call their own plays and execute properly because Olson sucks?

What book would that be?

No, I clearly was talking about the 2006 season not being particularly impressive. Regardless of which season I was referring to, you clearly were in err, because there was more than 1 hall of famer on both teams.

You keep arguing points which I don't even dispute.

When have I ever placed blame for failed offenses squarely on Olson? There are lots of reasons and excuses why offenses fail. My point is that Olsen hasn't done anything, ever, as an offensive coordinator, to merit another job. I'm hearing a lot of excuses for why he failed, but nothing that would suggest he can turn a bottom tier offense into a threat.

But, great - he is just a good fit. It's all about the fit and he is an excellent fit. He is just a perfect fit. He can adjust his offense to personnel. What a great fit! Did I mention he fits well? Like a glove - fitting well, that is.

They were a top 10 offense in 2006 with that talent. That's not acceptable? You wouldn't be happy with that here?

You pointed out the offensive drop off for the Rams earlier. That made it a valid discussion point. Even if you're talking about 2006, how is a Top 10 offense a disappointment? 4000+ yard passer is a drop off? You're point that he hasn't done anything ever is simply not true. The facts really say otherwise.

Being a good fit philosophically is important. It's the breakdown that occurred there that cost Fisch his job.

It's been proven that Olson can do well with decent talent. Nobody here but apparently you and a few others are wiling to accept that fact.

He had elite talent in 2006 and had an above average to good offense. If it takes 3 hall of famers and another 4 or 5 pro bowlers to finish just inside the top 10, what would it take to finish top 5?

When has he ever outperformed expectations? The best he has done is to perform just at expectations.

But he really is a great fit. One ring to rule them all. Olson is the only person for this job. There are no other unemployed coaches in the world that can adjust their offense.

Greg "The Glove" Olson for offensive coordinator 2015 - he fits!

If it doesn't fit, you must acquit!  That just popped in my head.

He outperformed the 2005 Rams offense in just about every category with most of that same elite talent on the roster for both seasons.

You're really obsessed with the fit thing apparently. I guess that's what you need to lean on when the facts really don't support you.

Yeah, he brought the lowly Rams bottom-dwelling top 10 offense from a meager 22.7 ppg to 22.9 ppg. Their savior!

What "facts" don't support me? Facts and me are a good fit.

They were a top 10 offense. Find me a Jag fan other than you who wouldn't be thrilled with that here.

Seattle had the 18th best offense in 2013 and they took home a Lombardi. They have the 9th best offense this year and they're on the verge of another possible title.

If Olson can get more out of this offense, especially if he can get them into the top third of the league, with the defense continuing to improve, this team is on the cusp of a pretty significant turnaround. Even a middling offense would put this team in contention for a division title push.

Clearly facts are really part of your thought process. You see a top 10 offense as a bad thing.

I see that inane interjections where you state something off-the-wall absurd and then inform me that, in fact, it is my own opinion, have made their appearance.

The fact is that Olson has a less impressive resume than other unemployed coaches.  Spin it however you wish, but just because you are spoon fed rhetoric and propaganda from the Jaguars PR department doesn't make it the gospel.

That is the fact.

My opinion on the matter is that this hire was made based on two reasons: Availability and Familiarity.  Not merit.  This appears to be Mike Mularkey all over again; where, again, there was availability and familiarity.

I don't understand why we argue over this franchise I've just accepted we sucks and will continue to suck until I see otherwise.
I feel 100% better with this hire than I ever did with Fisch. He's got a decent record with young QBs and off the top of my head I can't ever remember him having an offense or young QB this talented. If we can manage to fix the OL this team will look a hell of a lot different next year. 71 sacks is crazy and for Blake to survive that and look as good as he did gives me hope. That line allowing some of the pressure it did would have shattered most young QBs but I never got that feeling with Blake. The kid has guts and the will to win. He has footwork issues but he has all the things you want in a QB that you can't teach.

We have the right QB but he does need some development. I feel better with the new OC, Fisch was a waste of time.
I don't understand why we can't just watch and see how the guy calls plays for a few games before we start arguing whether he's worth a damn or not. Hindsight is 20/20, but y'all have foresight that's measuring around 20/875 at the moment.

Let the guy have a chance. If he sucks, we'll know it.

Well, you go right ahead and sit in your corner stomping your feet and muttering to yourself about how much you hate this hire. We'll revisit this once there's actually something tangible to evaluate. I hope you're right and he's a terrible hire because it's clear that if he's not, and the team shows improvement, this is going to be devastating for you. Some folks just need something to complain about.

If that's what you think of me - I'm cool with it.

I learned from the best when you cried for days about Khan moving the Jaguars to London for a game.
There's no point to keep arguing. Point taken. The Jaguars organization is riddled with incompetent people who have no clue what they are doing. We are doomed.  Sick  :yucky:  Wallbash I think that we should write an open letter to Mr. Khan and demand that all future hires be subject to a fan vote. We cannot tolerate any more mediocrity. Enough is enough.

Not sure if serious… but….  If you can't look objectively at what Caldwell has done and see it's better than what we've seen in 8+ years, then you aren't paying attention.
