Quote:Tom is your new GM essentially.
Is this official?
Quote:I cant believe we gave Dave a extension

We gave Gus Bradley an extension last year.  Not really a surprise.
Quote:I'm okay with it. Marrone is a smart, no nonsense guy and we won't look like a bunch of Cub Scouts with ADHD on a sugar binge every week like we did with Gus.

Issue is whether he can bring in top notch coordinators and other staff like i think Smith could've.

Assuming Dave Caldwell decided that Doug Marrone was his job available HC choice,   Caldwell and Marrone are on the same page in terms of potential Coordinators.   Marrone likely spoke to a number of available coaches that he would want to bring to Jacksonville to be part of his staff.

We also gave Gus and extension and he got fired

With Coughlin the new VP, I think Dave and Marrone have one year to show real improvement or uncle Tom gonna blow it up

If the other 2 get 3 may as well give him the same. It's all in how the contract is laid out year 2 and 3 could be voidable if he sucks this next year.
I love the Coughlin hire..

Marrone can kiss my [BLEEP]
Well now we know who the superbowl winning head coach who told khan to stick with Marrone was

I feel pretry much the same the Coughlin new just made me step back from the ledge a bit.
3 year for Marrone

3 year for Coughlin

2 year extension for Caldwell.

All three through 2019

We got two good football people. One who won two Super Bowls, and won who gave the Bills their first winning season in who knows how long.  I'm very happy.

It's a good fit for both positions.

It's simply a means to keep the guy under contract if he does well. If he doesn't, he will still get fired regardless of that extension.

Plus, Dave has put together a talented roster here in Jacksonville. The problem is Gus never managed to take this team from rebuilding and a losing mentality and turn them into a contender with a winners mentality. Fingers crossed Coughlin coming back, plus the hiring Marrone who helped Buffalo to a winning season, can be the catalyst to that happening. Dave hasn't done a bad job building this roster, he's been let down by his head coach.

LOL

All good, buddy.

I actually think this thing is going to work out fine if they adjust to some more consistently aggressive play calling on defense.  You heard Caldwell was extended, right?
The TC hire is making me feel a little more comfy on the Marrone hire; but I still think the process taken was stupid. But I guess that meeting that Caldwell wasn't at really was important lol
Quote:Well now we know who the superbowl winning head coach who told khan to stick with Marrone was
Yep.

It looks like the Marrone hire was Coughlin's choice not Caldwell's.
Quote:The hire doesn't bother me as much as them not firing Bradley earlier and giving Marrone more time to show what he had. Because of that, it all looks ridiculous.

IMO,  this is the most legit reason to criticize the Jaguars coaching decision process.   After the THF loss in Tennessee,  it was hard justifying keeping Gus Bradley moving forward.   The final 9 games would have been a larger sample size to assess Doug Marrone as a HC on an up close basis.
I can see Coughlin providing a lot of valuable input to the gameplans on Sundays. Tom will do more than be the Executive VP of player personal, his presence will be very beneficial to the team.
I wonder if we'll hear anything on OC/DC personnel; if we keep Hackett and Goldberg 2.0. Or if we bring in new peeps. I'm thinking we're sticking with the same. When does Jerry's contract end? Just curious.
