If Marrone was a TC hire, then I gotta give him the benefit of a doubt until proven otherwise.
Not a fan of Marrone, but it is what it is.

You'll find the negative stat no matter what. I say it's a testament to our defense that they could achieve such a high ranking without a high turnover margin

Picking a head coach because of Bortles is a colossal bone headed move. Just wow.

To play devils advocate, what happens if we let Bortles go, he gets the right coaching, and turns it around, ala Alex Smith? And we're stuck with a Kaepernick? He still deserves a shot to turn it around

Alex Smith could at least throw a football back then.

You pick the best coach, period. Not the guy who gives lip service to the GM's favorite pet. I really hope Marrone works out but the new coach shouldn't have had any qualifiers bases on the current roster.

Quote:It won't be any different. Wash has been dopey Bradley's flunky since North Dakota State. They are basically the same person. They even look alike. We are gonna see the same horse [BAD WORD REMOVED] Leo Otto Lotto Ice cream defense.Todd Wash worked under Monte Kiffin in TB. Gus and Wash just learned the scheme in Seattle. That was Pete Carroll's scheme, not theirs.

All this assuming is funny. This was a Coughlin hire...not a Caldwell or Shad hire.

Except if you were paying attention, Mike Kaye even mentioned that Wash may switch to a more traditional 43

So is the entire coaching staff remaining?

To all of the "rah rah" fans who are o.k. with everything this franchise does and thinks the front office always makes the right moves, (you know who you are), answer me this. If Marrone was the right guy to turn this club around all along, why wasn't Gus fired many weeks ago and Marrone put into place then? He would've given the team a bigger sample size of what he can do with this lineup and fans possibly would've been more on board with the hire. As it looks now though, the front office just wasted opportunities to salvage the season and hoodwinked fans into believing there would be real change. To me, this wreaks of incompetence.

Coughlin didn't get in on the organization until recently.

Quote:If Marrone was a TC hire, then I gotta give him the benefit of a doubt until proven otherwise. No doubt Tom had a hand in this hire. I doubt he'd walk into this situation not having a say about the coach. That does take some of the sting out of it.
Not a fan of Marrone, but it is what it is.
Not knocking Marrone at all because I think he's a good coach. He may end up being the best option for this team. He checks off a lot of the boxes that most here want. He's a good offensive coach with a solid resume. He's not a rah rah guy. He's straight forward and honest. I think a more unfiltered, disciplined approach will go a long way in eventually winning the fans over, especially if the wins start piling up.
The problem is he's not the sexy pick. His hire and the likelihood that most of the staff is retained is an indication that at least the powers that be think Gus was THE problem.
I'm putting a lot of trust in Coughlin to right the ship. He won't tolerate the garbage we've been subjected to the past few years.

Just take a look at the comments. Look at how many fans of other teams are upset that they didn't get Marrone.
Not saying he is the second coming or anything, but all you who have already labeled him a bust are being just plain silly.
Nobody knows how this will go.

Considering the fact that Wash had the best unit on the team with a top ten defense, I'm thinking he should be fine, especially if they keep Kiffin around.
