The defense went from 24th to 6th in the first year under Wash.

For those of you hoping he gets let go, I wouldn't hold your breath.

The best thing about this hire is if we have another lousy year Marrone, Caldwell, and Bortles will all be gone and we can basically start over with the most important pieces of a team.... But at least we'll have a ton of the complementary pieces.  Good defense.  Some good WRs.  etc...
Quote:Why wouldn't he bring in a new OC, given how poorly the offense performed?

Because Hackett is his guy.  Hackett was his guy in Buffalo.  With how bad the offense performed last year I'd like to see a new OC brought in.  (If we bring back Olson again, I'm quitting just for the record)
If we keep current staff, nothing is different
Any chance of Marrone getting Schwartz here? We have a lot kore talent on D than the Eagles and I think his scheme wpuld make us that much better.
Quote:Honestly, I'm okay with this hire. I wanted someone with successful head coaching experience - the NE Offensive Coordinator doesn't have that, and neither does Shannahan (sp).  The narrows it down to Marrone and Smith.  Smith is a defensive coach, and our defense is pretty good. It's the offense that needs help.

One question that comes to mind though is why didn't the Jaguars interview Todd Haley in the short window the team would have had to interview him?
We will suck forever. Hackett is a terrible OC, Wash is too average, he looked good because of our players.

I cannot believe our franchise is so inept. We had a chance to get the safest coach that guarantees us wins (Mike Smith), and we get Marrone? The Jags don't want fans.

Hackett and Marrone are BFF's

Then nothimg will change.
Because D6 tom wanted marrone. And vouched for him. So was no reason too.
So I just read Marrone worked under George O'Leary. Blake's UCF HC. Didn't know this.

Quote:I liked the option of Haley, but it will be a long time before he's available to interview

Quote:Haley.

Both of you are thinking along the lines that I am.

The Jaguars would have had the opportunity to interview Todd Haley before the Steelers preparation began for the playoff game in Kansas City.    Whether the two parties attempted an interview is something I'm certainly not aware of.
Quote:Lol. Khan wasted 250,000$ to hire a consulting firm so he could keep Marrone. What a joke.

Not that I'm crazy about this decision but did it ever occur to you that 'this consulting firm looked at all the candidates and actually recommended Marrone.

It happens in companies all the time. HR is outsourced and they have an opening for CYZ Inc. they get some good qualified outside applicants, but internal person posts for the opening and after a search, they realize the internal was the best all along. Just a thought
Our head coach was on our coaching staff last year, and could've taken over for buffoon Bradley. Let that sink in. This front office has mush for brains.

Noooooooooooo we suck again! ! !
Fire Dave Caldwell now!

I would be very surprised if Doug Pederson would be comfortable with Jim Schwartz moving on for a non HC job.

Also,  Schwartz is from Baltimore.   I think he likes being relatively close to the area he has his roots in.
I got a double secret warning for my outburst regarding this front office, particularly the ownership of our beloved jaguars.

But man, it's just getting really ridiculous how badly we are being run as an organization right now...

Mike Smith would have been a very solid, very safe pick as head coach...

Instead, we go with Marrone...  I just don't know what the heck these people are thinking.

I'd be surprised if he was kept.
Quote:Remember that tweet about Khan talking to a HC that won a SB and he said he should hire Marrone? Well Coughlin has won a SB

Frank Frangie said that call was from Bill Belichek
