Nothing has been proven by the front office. They did good spending money. So so on retaining talent and meh drafting. Could it be better? I sure hope so.
While it's been a let down that no deal has been hammered out so far, he's still tagged and more than likely signed up by July. Is it ideal? No. Is it business? Yes. Some people are better at business than others.

I still think this team has there eye on an EDGE in this draft, regardless of Allen's situation. There's at least two to three quality EDGE players there at 17 potentially between Verse, Latu & Robinson. They were pursuing Hunter over the last two years via trade with the Vikings.

They're planning on adding at least one more quality impact player to this defense that can rush the passer.

I think Verse is the top edge player on their board and very high on our board overall.  Regardless if we resign Allen or not I think there is a very high chance we take Verse if he falls to us.  Even if we are confident that we get a deal done with Allen I think we still take Verse. We need that 3rd edge and if we can get Verse we would have Allen, Walker, and Verse for the next 3 to 4 years at the very least and it would be an elite pass rush group.  Walker or Verse can move inside on passing downs not to mention if one got injured we would have the insurance on the roster.  Right now if Allen or Walker gets hurt we are in big trouble on defense.  Get a DT in the 2nd like a Jenkins or Sweat and our dline is set for the next 4 years.

Yep. They've looked at Verse and Kneeland for this reason I believe. They're either looking at Verse with 17 or Kneeland with 48. They've also looked at Ceasar out of HOU who is a bit of a tweener I believe but has promise.

I could see Verse going in the top 10 to Atlanta or Chi.  It would be nice if he made it to 17 though. There is a low chance imo he makes it to our pick but If he does make it to 17 I just don't think there will be another player there better than Verse and edge is still a huge need for us and has been for years.

If some of those guys in the unknown category come on this year to look like they weren't bad picks, I just don't know if all the "Baalke draft hate" is justified.  (and I despise the Miller pick with every fiber of my soul, and I also disliked the Bigsby selection strongly)

I definitely don't like the positional value decisions I've seen from Baalke/Pederson at times and I'd have done some things differently. But what we have to judge them on is still very much a work in progress.

I just feel like it's still premature to be tripping about this regime's draft success and failure - but everyone in Jags nation seems to be supremely confident that they are going to totally screw the pooch in a few weeks.
I'm just not sure I share that assumption. Trying to be objective despite some displeasure with the roster build.

I guess you're being lenient with your definition of hits, out of every pick from this crew so far the only pick I have full confidence in is Harrison.

Walker and Lloyd have been occasionally competent, but not reaching the level of my expectations for their draft position.

No

I'm not

I guess you're allowing poor performances by the Jags defense in the latter half of the 2023 season to obscure your perspective of how well those two athletes did their jobs.

Lloyd was the 3rd best LB against the run in the NFL and allowed only one TD last year. He had a better completion percentage allowed then multiple top 10 LBs. If he didn't have the cast last year he would have had more of an impact in turnovers. He's easily a hit.

He dropped a INT it seemed like every other game with the cast.  If he didnt have that cast on his hand he would of had 3 or 4 picks most likely

I am not sure what people are seeing if they do not see the Lloyd pick as successful.  The only thing that comes to mind is the phrase "unrealistic expectations_ ??

Let’s go!

Frees up probably 10 million or so for this year

5 years. 150 million. 88 guaranteed.
Almost same deal than Brian Burns. Good for him.

Good job by Baalke.
Sweet, he will likely be captain again

4 mil per less than Bosa and 32.5 mil less guaranteed

Got .5 mil more than Burns
I guess I'm getting old but these salaries are insane. But relative to the other guys, Josh earned it. Nice to have him wrapped up for the next 5 years.

Love it and happy to have this wrapped up and shows we’re rewarding a stud player.

Hopefully travon sees these and pushes even further on.
Foye and Allen 2024 defensive captains
Good, I get to hang onto my Allen jersey for another handful of years.
Finally!!

Just how inflation and revenue sharing works with the cap space in this sport over time I guess. These salaries ARE insane though. I'll be 36 in about two weeks and some of these deals are stupid high compared to what I remember seeing in my teenage years and early twenties watching this sport.

I remember people making a big deal out of Albert Haynesworth's deal with Washington back in 2009. That was the first real contract that jumped off the page at me. That was $100M spread out over 7 years though and he was looking at $40M guaranteed.

It wouldn't surprise me if T.J Watt gets the next big blockbuster extension though or Micah Parsons. T.J's situation might be a little trickier because of his age (29), but, he's closing in already on 100 career sacks and if he's healthy this year he'll more than likely get it and then some. I could see Pittsburgh trying to secure him for the next 3 - 5 more years and getting him close to $38M per year.
Great to get him signed.
Really glad for him, he's earned it and now we can focus on other stuff in the run up to the draft
