If I'm reading the tea leave- errr- tar and feathers correctly amongst our quick to anger base, Baakle too FOREVER to get this deal done.

(even though it got done long before the first minicamp, before the draft, and months ahead of camp when a holdout might have even slightly mattered)

Had it been done last year it would've been cheaper and we would've kept Ridley. That's all that even bothers me about it.
I think overall it got done, and that is what matters. Hard to say Josh would’ve even had the motivation to prove he could do what he did last year if he had already signed a sweet contract.

That’s the biggest gripe.

Not to mention he signed the exact contract everyone said he would get months ago. Baalke waited too long which led to the franchise tag and letting Ridley walk for nothing.

It’s always Baalkes plans that bother me because he doesn’t seem to be forward thinking. He’s reactionary.

Either way. Im glad Allen will be here for (hopefully) his entire career. He’s an elite pass rusher and an awesome dude by all accounts.

Now trade up for Odunze lol
I really, REALLY enjoyed revisiting the really bad takes on the first 5 or so pages of this thread. I got a nice belly chuckle out of the "4 years, $88 million" and "3 years $15 million with lots of incentives" takes from those folks who though Josh Allen wouldn't command a top dollar contract.

I would slap that franchise tag on him tho, but all he will do is hold out or fake an injury so he doesn’t have to play.
Oh this is a gem!

Hahaha

How much would you have offered him based on his 2022 season, and how do you know he would have taken that?

The 4 year 88 mil post was in Oct.  Its possible we could of gotten that contract if Baalke did in season extensions so it was likely close.  As the season went on the the price raised and when Burns got his deal that was the contract we had to beat being Josh is much better than Burns.   The price in Oct. wasnt the price today.  A got a chuckle from the Josh was going to set the market and if we didnt set the mark with Allen it was going to be a bad look for this franchise.  Allen got 34.5 mil less than Bosa, thats more than a season less of Josh's annual salary, huge difference.

I recall somewhere that I thought 4 at $25 per was the floor, but I don't remember how long ago that was. I would've made him a good offer last offseason, not a bargain basement one, nor would I have dragged it out. I don't think Allen wanted to play on the Option, but that's Baalke's M.O. for these things, push it all to the last minute. Once we got to mid-season this year it was into Bosa Money territory, though some folks on here thought to be unrealistic.

If we tagged Ridley we wouldn't of gotten Armstead, blessing in disguise.

Chuckle, chuckle, chuckle.

And those two years where Bosa is a +$50 million dollar cap hit aren't going to be paid. You know that as well as I do.

34.5 mil less than Bosa, i would't call that Bosa territory.  Do you still think this is a bad look on the franchise since Allen didnt set the market?

I think he hit the $30 per year number I said he would and that you said he wouldn't. I never said that he was only worth ~$20 per like you did. The market was already set, this contract is in line with him being the most expensive defensive player signed this offseason, so yeah, the contract is fine. Most people are not happy that it took this long and the opportunity cost in FA was excessive. When I have time later I'll explain to you what those words mean and why they matter.

That dude that averages half a season missed?

You said it will be a bad look on the franchise if he dosnt set the market, which he didnt.  The market is set until the next great player gets an extension and then it is re-set.  For all we know this is why it took so long because his camp wanted to set the market but we would'nt do it with a 122.5 mil. guaranteed deal.  Chris Jones set the DT market with his new contract. I think they were actually waiting on Hunters deal but it was rumored Hunter took less money and hes a little older. With that said, he got .5 mil more than Burns, once Burns got that contract it actually helped Allens camp so we had to beat that.   Good to finally get it done for both sides.  Baalke has had a great offseason.

Not only that, who's to say they didn't try to negotiate something.

Averages huh?  I hope you don't balance your expenses manually.
The real numbers are out now. It's actually 141m over 5 at 28m per. The rest is based on production and post season production. He gets 150m if he hits all of his incentives.

Walker also called him to congratulate him and said that even though he(Walker) had an off day today. Allen's new contract inspired him to go workout. Good stuff man
Man, I think our D line is going to be vicious next year.

If Armstead stays healthy, Sacksonville is on.
Good for Allen. He's been the best player on the defense for years. I just wish the team had signed him last year for a relative pittance compared to this.

As others have noted, glad the Jaguars continued to send the right message to players. Be good a player and good teammate and this team will pay you.
