Quote:One year is HUGE for a HC. This isn't a 4th string running back we are talking about.

In the defense of this move, I have heard;

It will help with FA ( because a one year ext. Will distract players from one of the worst head coaching records in history)

A one year extension won't keep him from being fired ( there goes the stability talk)

And that it doesn't really matter because FAs only care about money.

It is what it is, but this wasn't a good move.

Who here is saying it was a "good move"?

Good lord, never mind, I'm glad we all agree this move wasn't good.
Quote:In work so can't read through everything..why is this a good idea??

Caldwell's signature is now clearly on it as well as Gus.

That way Lamping and Khan can boot them both and start again.

Caldwell's final contract year, do you ask?

2017.  Same as Gus' new extension.

Already have that post typed out don't cha?
Quote:This is setting up perfectly for the clowns like FBT to say "it was a 4 year rebuild all along and everyone knew this. Except for the message board GMs, fry cooks and whiners."

Well, about that, t runt...

"Caldwell will now get on the process of searching for the Jacksonville Jaguars next head coach and begin planning on how to build the franchise for the next 4-5 years in the future."

This, written in the very first few minutes of his hire.

Wait, you mean there was a plan to rebuild the team over 4 or even 5 years and I didn't actually manufacture this notion?  Shocker.

Lol you do know that's from bigcatcountry right? Not only is Alfie meaningless, They hate Gus Bradley just as much as the people on here.

Written by Alfie.

That's not news nor is it from the team. It was written by a glorified messageboard member.

Nothing like hiding behind hypotheticals.

Same ol song and dance from this group.
Quote:Good lord, never mind, I'm glad we all agree this move wasn't good.
Some people understand the move.  Others don't.  I don't see anyone calling it a good move in the grand scheme of things.
Quote:Gus is a terrible coach. But this move helps in free agency to get talent...

More than that...

Maybe it's forward thinking, showing the next GM and HC they interview that they'll have more than just a year or two to do their jobs, without ownership interference and organizational instability seen elsewhere in the league.
Quote:Gus Bradley wasn't even a remote thought when that article was written.
No [BLEEP].

Bigcatcountry wrote the article about a 4-5 year rebuild correct? Meaning they should be the most understanding about this, right?

Wrong. They are just as tired as the "4-5 year" rebuild as anyone in here is.

Gus Bradley wasn't even a thought in this article.

The point was pretty clear, and something that had been CLEARLY communicated.  The rebuild effort was a multi-year process.  Caldwell, Khan, and even Bradley had made it clear from the start that it was a 3-4 year effort to complete the effort.  The framework is there.  Year 4 is upon us.  It's time to deliver, and if they don't, both Caldwell and Bradley will be looking for work soon enough.

wait...

so Alfie said 4-5 years...

and he was really mad when it wasn't done in 3?

surprise.

Agree on all counts, which strengthens the point.  What's ridiculous to think GMs are given the length (or near length) of their first contract to prove they are worth the job?

It's why GM contracts are written that long.  You prove it, you get your extension.

You don't, and you won't be re-signed, and you just might not make the full length.

In any case, if you aren't bright enough to realize that then you probably aren't realizing the truth of this extension:

GUS and DAVE are now joined at the hip more than ever.

If one goes, they'll both go and the club starts over with a clean slate from them both.

I agree on the surface it would seem so... however...

if this team has talent on both sides of the ball, we can clearly see... I'm not sure Dave doesn't get a second shot at an HC hire.

Especially if he does well in the upcoming offseason...
So...what HCs are potentially available in 2017?

But this ext won't save him next year, remember?

I just find it funny, someone in a Gus Bradley contract extension thread, dares to utter the phrase "you prove it, you get your extension".

I'm so glad I have people as smart as you around.

Oh, I get the sarcasm/ pessimism completely, I'm just pretty dumbfounded someone tried to use that dude as a source.
