After he told me this I looked up Brandon Allen highlights from college and I'll be damned that guy can truly throw the ball with accuracy and he looks natural

How would this guy have any idea about Allen's abilities in the NFL? He's not at 3DQB as far as I know

Also, from every indication other players who've talked to him say he's been ridiculously focused on being a top QB.


I'm not saying your guy is wrong, and you even said he could be a hack. But it seems unlikely he's just going through the motions. Lost confidence I believe, but I think he truly wants to be great.

Regardless of the work being put in.   What is wrong with an insurance policy?    What is wrong with a back up plan not henne?   Could Blake improve?  Absolutely.  However, If he does not who is comfortable with Henne?   Marone benched his starter.  Think he wouldn't do it again?   

 

I see those given Blake the benefit of the doubt.   And that is cool.  Yet.   How many games has he won?  What does he average?   Great qbs make average around him better.  He has not shown he can do that.  Like I said before.  I don't think one True Jags fan who hates our starting qb.   And has a personal vendetta against Blake. 

 

My question remains do to regression, injury, lack of options. etc.   What is wrong with an insurance policy?   Many businesses do it all the time.  Have that person waiting for a chance if something where to happen to the big wig. 

 

Why not give the fan base hope?  Bring in Romo or draft a guy who could take the keys.  In event of a slow start or things go sour.   Some keep bringing up pointless stats that lead to top 5 drafting the last three years.  See the problem?  

 

Blake averages 4 wins out of 16 a season.  So if a student is highly talked about and a great person.  Yet only gets 40% right on every test.  Even though has 80's on pretest.  That student is still failing.  So what does the rest matter? 

 

Something mentally is not clicking during clutch times or when it counts.  So the rest looks sensational.  At the end of the day still failing.  

 

And what many of the board is doing is offering Blake extra credit and rounding stuff so he passes.  Yet still averaging 4 wins a year is failing. 

 

 

So it will make the rest of us realist feel better and want to support more with a backup plan.  For just in case.  Cause with out one?  Stats have shown we have drafted top 5 the majority of time since 2008.   And are averaging 4 wins a year.  

 

 

But I will flip things for one sec to more fantasy. Lets say Blake plays lights out.  Still be  better with Someone with promise in waiting.   

 

Even though Greenbay had Farve.  Why did they draft Rodgers?  Was that a mistake?   Even though 49ers had Montana they drafted Young?  Mistake?  Even though Patriots (who people want to trade everyone to)  Have brady they drafted Grop.  Looking like a mistake?

To be honest none of his years impress me.. Look at his turnover ratio.. Dude don't do jack thru 3 quarters of every game.. then in the 4th he get a Td or 2 to make his Stat look good in garbage time.. And we still lose the game! But people are impressed about his fantasy numbers.. It's about winning and that's it! Tell me how many games have Blake won? Now tell how many has he lost?

I won't agree here.  He has thrown some great passes and tds in first half.  This is grabbing at straws.  However, with wins you are on point.  I see many bashing Cleveland, Yet if we are wrong about Blake.  Cleveland has what 18 picks in next two years with 12 in first 4 rounds?   In two years if pick right.  They could be the new leaders of the nfl. 

 

We are so used to losing. That many make excuses to not improve just to be offseason champions and have things to talk about at the water cooler.

I'm glad we got Marrone in here who isn't afraid to give the back ups a shot (like Jeff Tuel, Kyle Orton in Buffalo). I feel like Coughlin would approve of the move too seeing as he didn't believe in Blake before he took the job

I didn't ask him how he knew of Allan. He definitely had some knowledge of our team though

I guess my problem with this--as it applies to Romo--is that we'd be paying a lot of money to someone who, frankly, won't last very long, particularly behind our offensive line. I'd love to draft a guy like Tribusky (sp?), but is he worth a first round pick? If Bortles fails next year, why not let the kid from Arkansas see a few snaps? Next year is supposed to be a good one for drafting QBs. I'd love to get one then - even if Bortles turns out to be great.

I'm worried were gonna start over at qb.

I am curious about Alan and how he'd do.

If Blake fails I'd love to see him get a shot. And I think that would happen.

There's no way IMHO that Chad gets all the starts if Blake doesn't.

He's basically an emergency replacement.

I think they'd get Alan reps in practice and maybe let him have at it.

And if we did draft Tribusky with a first, we probably wouldn't draft a QB next year. I really would like to draft a QB next year.

I agree...Blake's best year was almost 75% jump balls.

It didn't surprise me that in 2016 the jump ball plan didn't work anymore.

Because we are always worried about the following year and than if ya look back.  Most if not all the greats don't pan out.  So its a forever next year. And even if Allen was the answer he would need more reps and with the resigning of henne.   Means Allen is not it.  Or at draft time can trade Henne.  Not give Brandon the keys.

Blake has the ability to be elite. That's his upside. Once again, will he reach that ceiling? No one knows. Coughlin, Marrone, and the new talent around will help him. Any scout/coach/GM in the world would rather risk getting a world beater with upside of being elite like Bortles than grabbing a game manager like Teddy/David Garrard.

Sam Bradford took over Teddy's 11-5 division champion playoffs team in 2015 and took em to a glorious 8-8 in 2016...


I know the concept of WINS is alien in Jag land. We don't understand it and can't use it in defense of Jag related issues.

But I think, at this point, you have to start worrying about the salary cap if we sign Romo. You've got a guy who's almost 40. And we can't ignore the fact that he usually gets injured.

 

I feel like, short of playing Allen in the event Bortles fails, we're stuck with Bortles as the starter until next year.

 

And believe me, I share your frustrations. I want to win now. I guess I'm putting my hopes in a Hail Mary - that Bortles does break through this year. Not sensible, I know. But I see no other practical options.

to be fair, the offensive line bradford was working with was putrid and he didnt have any run game at all.

I feel like there's a chance for Bortles, if he puts the work in.  He needs to make California his second home.  We've seen flashes of his brilliance. The TD against the Packers comes to mind.  We need to see more of that - now.

Every QB have thrown just "some" nice throws.. I don't take that from him. What do he do with the game on the line? How many pick sixes, or fumbles, or sacks , or bad throws do it take to realize,this guy can't do it?
