Quote:This "bring in competition" (regardless of the round) is so silly.

Bortles is the Jaguars' quarterback. Barring injury he's going to stay the QB until performance issues arise. Doesn't matter what some some college QB does in camp or pre-season.

I think Bortles knows this is a critical year for him. Some phony "competition" isn't going to matter one way or another.
The Jags have to have an insurance policy.  We can't blindly go into the season as blake being the only real option.

Uh, excuse me! Some very wealthy organization spent a lot of money in order to change the name so that their shareholders will feel good about themselves! Think about the shareholders!

You callous people sicken me. Sicken I say!

Well if Wells Fargo still has shareholders, that's their own fault haha

But what about the money they spent! They didn't go spending money just so you could go around using words!

I recognize you now... Quit starting up accounts I didn't ask for dammit..

Blake is getting handed the job, its his to lose and if we think our supposed franchise QB has to compete with some journey man to be good he's obviously not the guy.

Maybe he is obviously not the guy then..
I  wonder what TC and Doug Marrone really, think of Bortles.  They can look at any and all of the tape of every single one of his snaps in the NFL, preseason and regular season.

What do they really, deep down and honestly think of him as a QB?

I already know what most of you in here think of him.

And what's that?

I just know what most in here think about him from their posts, but I wonder what the Jags top football guys really think about him.

Imagine what they say in public.

Then remove about 70% of the implied confidence they have in him.

(That's my guess anyway)

I think they believe in him and like his skill set! At the same time I don't think they love him.. I believe they will find his insurance policy in terms draft, in case he dont pan out..

My guess is that they are fine with him at the moment.  I wouldn't be shocked or surprised if they took a QB in the upcoming draft, but that really doesn't mean much either.

The fact of the matter is that Bortles isn't really that bad considering his age and the rest of the team that he's had to work with.  I'm not saying that he's been "good" either, but considering everything around him since his rookie year, it hasn't exactly been easy for him.

When Bortles was first drafted, many people compared him to Ben Roethlisberger, but so far he's looked more like another Eli Manning.  We'll see how he does this season with a better team around him and better coaches.  If he still struggles, then perhaps it's time to address the issue either with a young QB or with a free agent veteran.

Look to the past at Rob Johnson.  He wasn't really that good, but when he got on a good team he won a Super Bowl.

Attributing the win-loss record to Bortles is just wrong and doesn't tell the whole story.

Preach my brother

Especially when he's had games like TN 2015. Throwing 5 TDs, 0 INTs, and still losing.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not real high on Bortles.  I just think that it's wrong to throw him away... at this point.  I believe that he has the potential to be a good NFL QB.  There is no real viable option in free agency and no real clear viable option in the draft.  I'm willing to see how well he does in this upcoming season with a better supporting cast (players and coaches) around him.  The ideal situation would be to develop one or two younger QB's under him and get rid of the aging backup that we have.

agree with most but Rob Johnson was the back up QB when he won the SB. Brad Johnson was the Bucs starter at QB that year

It's because people are taught that QBs get all the credit and all of the blame. Hell, more people actually believe that Bortles is the sole reason we didn't make the playoffs instead of bad coaching and a non-existent running game.
