Quote:People are making it out as a bigger deal then it is, or the NFL rules even has it as, in the rule book the fine for not having the balls at the right PSI is $25,000, not suspensions, not draft picks. If the NFL had thought it was such a huge deal they would have a bigger punishment in there own rules book.
Now if they want to hit the Pats harder for being repeat offenders ok, but dont try to act like this is so huge, and OMG Pats rigged the game suspend Brady for 6 games stuff needs to stop.
Lets be real here, you cant even tell the balls are under PSI with the naked eye or barely by touching them.
I honestly didn't know that. Do you have a link I could read? I don't think people are making much of a big deal out of it as the NFL is. They are the ones who hired the special investigators in the first place. Its obviously a big deal to them.

I agree its Godell making stuff up as he goes, and in todays age of social media and ESPN needing headlines, its making it bigger then it needs to be.
Dont have link, but I saw this on another website
Rule says:
"If any individual alters the footballs, or if a non-approved ball is used in the game, the person responsible and, if appropriate, the head coach or other club personnel will be subject to discipline, including but not limited to, a fine of $25,000."
Obviously you can punish more based on the language, but its not like Brandy and BB is on cam deflating the balls in the bathroom lol

The rule book changes when you lie and hinder the leauges investigation process.
Edit: The amount of fumbles by the Patriots over the past 5 years or so proves that there was an advantage. You think they magically had a drastically lower amount of fumbles than the rest of the league because they wear a Pats uniform? Come on.
Patriot fans are so upset they got caught again. If I were a Jaguar fan I would probably have the same arguements, but you still look like a complete idiot trying to defend this. The everyone does it arguement is the best. If everyone does it, prove it.

The Patriots have one of the biggest fan bases in football. Why would he want to make a bigger deal than it is and possibly take away cash, picks, or suspend players for games?
It makes no sense.

And if altering the ball wasn't a big deal, then why do it in the first place?

Didn't people initially say the same thing about Bountygate?
I think it's clear that Goodell takes "the integrity of the game" seriously, for better or worse. As he should. And he has to be aware of the perception that he's in Kraft's pocket.
And the Patriots broke the rules. Intentionally.
I don't know what penalties will be imposed (Brady may be watching the Jaguars game on tv) but it makes a lot of sense.

I didnt say it wasnt a big deal, I said its being made bigger then it is

Agree. If you go anything Patriot fans are saying they making it out to be the NFL is just out to get them. They really have no reason to be and it would be in the best interest for them not to be. The NFL is doing what they have to do at this point.
If I were a Patriot fan I would sit there and not say a word. They aren't going to take their championship, and thats really all that matters. If I were cheating and winning championships, I would keep doing it.

I think if you look at the reduced fumbles and how big of a deal Brady made it (texts made it seem like he stressed these guys out about it), it's a big deal. Arguing over how big of a deal it is is just semantics.

The guys were dumb though....I would have pushed for a lot more then a couple pair of shoes and a few autographes. They were always at more risk than Brady.

Except Brady not being cooperative with the investigation falls under the "conduct detrimental to the league" policy that has netted men accused but never charge with crimes 2-4 games.
Brady KNOWINGLY PAID WITH AUTOGRAPHS to cheat....
If he isn't suspended for that... but a [BLEEP] gets a year for smoking weed, I might quit watching the NFL... or off myself.

why have the rule at all?
HELL... why have any rules?
It's not a big deal? Then why do it then lie about it? Brady was also paying off the equipment guy, and requesting Belichick to plead "science". Kraft wants an apology from Goodell? That's never happening! They were all involved and deserve to be suspended for at least 4 games
January 12, 2008. Jaguars at undefeated Patriots, AFC Divisional Playoffs.
The undefeated Patriots flew into the playoffs on an emotional high after completing the first 16-0 regular season in NFL history, and Tom Brady sizzled in the Divisional Playoff win over the Jaguars. The NFL’s MVP, who threw a then-record 50 touchdown passes during the season, completed 26-of-28 passes for 262 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-20 win over the Jags. The Patriots outscored Jacksonville 17-6 in the second half to break a 14-14 tie and took advantage of two Jaguars turnovers to secure the win.
So, what does a de-inflated ball give you? Let's see, 26/28 passing, with no turnovers. The Jaguars, playing with a regulation football, had 2 turnovers and 2 critical 2nd half drops in the end zone by Matt Jones and Dennis Northcutt.

I think you are going a little overboard with this. Brady did what other good QBs did to us back then. Many short passes that exposed our zone scheme.
Deflating the ball doesn't just give Brady an unfair edge but all his receivers as well. Probably easier to grip for the RB too. Remember the Lawfirm when he went to Cinci? Fumbled immediately. This hurts the NFL Shield. No conclusive evidence? Video evidence, measured evidence, witness evidence, and a paper trail. Just throw all that out and ignore our history then you got nothin...m'kay

The stats tell the whole story here. The amount of fumbles the Pats had compared to the rest of the league (possibly aided by under inflated footballs) could have created a huge competitive advantage.
Turnovers win games.

This is like Watergate. It wasn't the crime, it was the coverup that got Nixon impeached. Brady would have gotten off with a slap on the wrist if he had come clean with something like,
"I told the equipment guys I like my footballs a little on the soft side. If I broke any rules doing that, I am sorry and I will accept whatever punishment the league wants to give me."
Then the league would have slapped him on the wrist.
But the fact that he lied and hindered the investigation, refusing to turn over his cell phone, and appears to have paid off the equipment guy to keep quiet, that is what the league cannot tolerate.

I think the fumble stats show deflating the ball can actually give them a big advantage just in that area alone, but other then that I agree with everything you said Here.
