Quote:he played 12 games and threw for 2500 yards, 18 TDs and 3 picks.

he was a conservative QB without many weapons in the passing game.

he did what he was supposed to and we made the playoffs and won in the playoffs.

give me that year over throwing for 4000 yards, many because we're always behind, and a ton of costly turnovers and pick 6's.
Well that 2007 team had a great defense, running game, and line.

That defense and O-line on this team and we'd be 6-2.

and don't forget good qb play... which is why (all things considered) we had a winning record and actually won in the playoffs.

Garrard was part of that success.  Gerrard was part of the reason for that success.  I can't believe I have to even defend the guy.  Overall, I would still take Bortles over him because I can see a lot more potential with Bortle... but the question was whether Bortles is playing better this year than any jags qb in our history.  I say definitely no.

Do you remember that playoff game? MJD ran a kickoff to the 1, Mathis scored a defensive TD and ran another back into the red zone. Garrard threw two second half picks that kept Pittsburgh in the game.

I hope you're taking Bortles' pick 6's... those kill a team

Don't forget the interception by Derek Landri on a screen.
Quote:I can't even imagine what the Jaguars record would be if they had guys like Henderson, Stroud, Peterson and Mathis in their prime on this defense.
Unfortunately that's all we can talk about is the "if" since our entire secondary, once again, very much like 2013, consists of players that wouldn't even make the roster on the next worst secondary.

Yep. And MJD took a little dump pass from Garrard and scored a TD.

I like how you cleverly left out his 4th and 2 scramble in crunch time to set up the easy game winning field goal.  Very dishonest of you when making an argument.

Look, guys - nobody is saying Garrard is awesome.  But Garrard of 2007 played well.  He did.  Sure, he made mistakes - but overall he played well for that team to win.

My argument is that 2007 Garrard was playing better than 2015 Bortles.  Some may disagree, but I have my reasons.

If you just dwell on the mistakes then blake sucks but if you focus on the good plays as well then he's in the conversation with all time seasons in jag history.

It seems like ya'll want a game manager

a game manager for the 2007 jags was a good combination.

a gunslinger that takes a lot of risks may have lost a lot of the close games we won in 2007.
When is this kid going to grow up and live to make another play. The stats are nice and the skill positions look good to great but bortles is hemmoraging turnovers. At some point Blake has to just eat a play swallow his pride and throw a ball away. Bottom line is the jags loss falls on points scored off turnovers.

Probably true but also does not make his season better than what Bortles is on pace for.

Uh..  I know that 2007 was a great year for us...

But I had season tickets that year when I lived on Amelia Island.

There were 2 or 3 passes each game that hit defenders in the chest that should have been picks by Garrard.  Let's not sit here and say that Garrard was some awesome QB.  He was lucky in 2007.

In 2008 and beyond, you saw the real 1 trick pony that Garrard was.  He was first read quick sland, and then a tough tackle to get 5-7 yards.  That was him.  He was at best a mediocre QB.  At worst the reason we lost games....

BB5 is a legitimate QB that is better than Marriotas and on the same level RIGHT NOW as Luck...

In 3 years, BB5 is the best QB in the AFCS as long as we get rid of the Gus Beer Gut Bradley...

how many interceptions is he on pace for?  how many overall turnovers?  how about pick 6's?

please, just be complete about your evaluation of him.

we all like the 380 yards and the touchdowns.  Yes, part of me loves how Blake plays - but we can't always ignore the negative plays.

I guess you're a little butt hurt huh?
