Quote:The amount of cherry picking on this thread is absolutely amazing
No kidding, people are just focusing on the TD and yardage totals to make the claim for Bortles' success. The problem is that they ignore how he gets there, and his performance relative to the rest of the league. He is 7th in attempts, 9th in TD passes, and 9th in yardage. Those are all pretty good, until you consider his efficiency and how it stacks up to other QBs in the league. He is 29th in completion %, 22nd in YPA, 4th most in INTs, 23rd QB rating overall, 26th QB rating in the redzone, and 20th in TD:INT ratio. In my opinion Bortles has been a below average QB who has the benefit of playing with very good playmakers at the WR position.
Quote:Oh, the irony.
He says "lots of people inflate what bortles has done" ...and then totally inflates as much by placing Bortles in the 10-15 range.
Simply put...
If you take an honest look at the qbs out there, Bortles is a borderline top 20 quarterback. It's a riot watching some of our fans talking about him as maybe #12. Really? As good as some of his deeper passes have been, Blake's overall completion percentage and W-L record really is pathetic, and his INTs have yet to let up. I see tons of potential in Blake to think that if any qb will get us to the promised land, it's him, but he still needs to win games, stop throwing INTs, and knock that completion percentage up about 10 percent before we can call him a 10-15 range qb.
I would agree with this assessment, he has the potential to be much better, but I think what this season has shown is that Bortles is not ready to be the cornerstone of an offense. You reduce his attempts and the amount of deep shots in favor of a more balanced approach between short efficient passes and ball control, and I think the team fares much better. Until he can reign in the turnovers, consistently make good decisions, and really improve his accuracy and efficiency, you cannot win games (consistently) in this fashion. He has a ton of potential, and because the team has been so bad for so long, particularly at the QB position, there are a lot of posters too quick to jump the gun on anointing him.
Quote:I'm glad you see his potential as well. I do think he's getting there, and while his deeper passing game is a large
part of what makes his game so great, you might have a point about utilizing more of a ball control offense. I'm not saying to really reign him in, but maybe supplement the lack of a running game with some shorter passes.
If they're able to control the clock a bit more it just might help translate these close losses into wins.
Gus talked about Blake consistently doing great things when he's able to use play action, but he's rarely able to use it because we're not running the ball enough. It's great to see Yeldon averaging 5.3 yards per carry over the past two weeks, but it's not translating into clock-owning drives. I feel this team is close, and it's because Blake is so close, but they just need more consistency.
I'm hoping Blake and Julius can get in sync with each other as that would improve the offense overall, and then maybe they can look to either DRob or Marquis
(next week Rashad Greene as well)
to spread the ball around a little more.
I think one reason is that Blake doesn't always go through his progressions, partly because he gets erratic in the pocket, partly in his mechanics (his windup/release can be painfully slow at times) and partly because he doesn't have the time to do so. But it seems like more than a few times a game there will be a short throw open for him but he just doesn't see it and forces a ball into coverage (where Hurns and Arob have done great work catching 50/50 balls) because that was his first read. Or when he does have the time and makes the right read, he loses control of the ball and ends up missing what should be an easy pass.
I think getting the run game going would be a major help, but that 5.3 YPC by Yeldon is a bit misleading. Take out that long run against the Jets and his 30 yard TD against the Bills and his YPC is barely at 3.4 for that span. There needs to be more consistency there for the team to succeed.

While I can appreciate you trying to feign some sort of football IQ, I would like to rebut your analysis with the following---
You don't know what u are talking about. Blake is not only ready to be a cornerstone, he is the cornerstone of this offense. Please stop discussing the jaguar offense as though you watch it. He is not Tom Brady but he is plenty good enough to be well ahead of a lot of QB's in this league. In my opinion, as of right now he's the 12th best qb in the league.
You want to reduce the shots down field? Lol, this is a typical statement from someone who isn't watching our games. We are typically in long yardage situations because of the lack of a running game. In addition to that, we have to keep up with the opposing team which tends to score at will against us. Along with that our strength at WR allows us to stretch the field. To go to a dink and dunk offensive philosophy like the tacks use would go against our strengths and player talent.
Let me repeat this, so that you can ignore it and continue to bloviate on yourself, your analysis is hogwash because:
1. You don't watch jaguar football games so you don't understand game situations
2. You don't watch jaguar football games so you don't understand how the weaknesses of this team affect the offensive philosophy and play calling during the games
3. You don't watch jaguar football games so you don't understand our strengths and how our offense tries to exploit and take advantage of those strengths.
But please, continue to provide your analysis, it's real funny to watch you make up nonsense.
Great News.... On Thursday night games Vs. Ravens... Bortles hasn't thrown a single INT.
What an awesome stat!
Mad? eh.. nope.. just being a goof.
This just in, BB5 is the ranked 7th among QBs for week 10 in the eyes of the analysts of NFL Network. Now I'm not one to blindly agree with anything the talking heads of any media outlet say. But facts are facts. BB5 is productive and is a good QB, even the morons in the media see it.
But yeah, I guess I'll take the word of a tacks fan that never watches any Jaguars games and just likes to bloviate himself in the Jungle.
Personally, I wish the $%^& %^&* would change his screen name to something else... He's really starting to affect my fondness of anything bacon....

I've had some battles on here, but have never used the ignore function until him. I compare most of his posts to walking into a public stall and seeing a left behind floater. Just trying to get it out of sight before vomiting.
I'll take the int's that come with a gun-slingin qb over the last handful of non gun-slingin, int throwin garbage qb's this team has had..
I heard on a bold Prediction Bortles will break the regular season passing yards today against the Ravens. Is the Ravens D that bad?
and off we go on the BBINT ride again!
Dude sucks
I told you he's a knuckle head. ...he doesn't learn
People say you take the good with the bad. But the bad constantly turns into 6 points with our crap defense. Completely negates what we are doing on offense.

When you fry up your bacon, just pretend you are frying him up.
