Jacksonville Jaguars
For the 2014 season, Blake Bortles was the lowest-graded player on the Jags offense (-35.7). Through nine weeks of the 2015 season, Blake Bortles is the highest-graded player on the Jags offense (+9.8).
Bortles has been especially impressive throwing the deep ball as he ranks as the No. 4 passer in PFF’s deep passing accuracy statistic. Finally, Jags fan can be optimistic that they have found a legitimate franchise QB.
Blake Bortles should be the MVP and it's not close.
He's the only player in the NFL to score points for two different teams every single week.

He has no idea what he's talking about... I thought this was already established...
Quote:Since when is TD:INT ratio a measure of TD efficiency?
Bortles has 17 TD which currently ranks as the 9th most. This is the primary measure of TD efficiency. You could argue that some teams have had to use multiple quarterbacks where Blake has been the sole TD scorer, but his 17 TDs still has the Jaguars total passing TDs tied with the Jets for 10th. The Colts sneak in there with 18 TDs when you include both Has and Luck.
He ranks in the same spot for overall yards showing that he's efficient in yards as well. To this end, the Jaguars also have the 2nd most 20+ yard completions with 39 only behind the Saints. That is to say, only Drew Brees has had more explosive passing completions than Blake Bortles.
The next step for Blake is improve his completion percentage so that his YPA will considerably improve. The Jaguars rank 19th with Bortles 7.1 YPA.
I don't think you understand what efficiency means, but it's not a measure of raw totals. Here's another efficiency stat I'm sure you guys will love. Mariota leads the league in passer rating the in red zone, while bortles is 26th.

well TD efficiency would be TD per pass I would figure.
18.3 for Bortles
15.3 for Mariota
Eminem also has 111 fewer attempts.
Mariota has been very good in the RZ. Almost all of his TDs have come there, 0 INTs and only 1 sack.
I don't think anyone has been denying that Mariota has played well.
Perspective is required however.
Is his rookie year better than Bortles rookie year? Yes.
I haven't denied that. But a lot of QBs come out hot and fade away. He's also been injured, already (that's kinda his m.o. ain't it?) Will he develop is yet to be seen. They aren't taking a lot of chances with MM, they do a lot of quick throws and don't take shots downfield.
All I have ever been saying is Bortles is better and you can't look at stats only. Continue to dig up whatever stat you want to support your little argument.
Bortles is still a better QB right now. I promise you.

Bingo. this is exactly the point.
It's actually alot of fun to compare MM and BB5. But as I've been saying, they are 2 different QBs being asked to do 2 completely different things. Along with that, MM is a rookie, as you pointed out.
For now, MM looks to be not completely terrible. That's something any tack fan should be happy to see---ON PAPER. But his game has flaws. As you point out, Kane, the tacks don't ask him to be a true pocket QB. They are playing him as one should play a rookie.
On the flip side, BB5, in his 2nd year is asked to carry the team and his support in terms of run game, and defense isn't there like with other QBs, so there more BB5 has to do to try and get wins.
I mean, the eye test along with his yards per game and TDs shows that BB5 has the tools to be a top 10 QB. To not see that, to ignore that, means you don't really understand football, or that you are only looking at metrics and don't actually watch any of the games.

I've also seen balls bounce off defenders hands and into tacks receivers hands.....for a TD
he's gotten lucky (as has Bortles, Miami dropped at least one INT)

Heck, let's not focus on top 10 QB with this troll. Let's get him to at least admit Bortles is not a "below average QB". Top 10 in TDs and Passing Yardage.... but below average? It takes a real special sort of special to buy that.
It takes a special sort of stupid to not understand the difference between volume and efficiency. If you guys are going to crown bortles thus far, you have to do the same for Mariota. He beats him out in every metric except deep throws. But please continue to make excuses for him.

You're confused, Mariota has a 6.5% TD rate compared to Bortles 5.5%. So again to reiterate, Mariota has been more efficient even on TD passes.

Mariota fumbles a lot. Probably because of slender, feminine hands.
There's always that guy who just has to be difficult
The amount of cherry picking on this thread is absolutely amazing
I think there's sufficient evidence in this thread that shows:
-Bortles throws a good number of TDs. I'm happy about that. So do others. You can look at his TD% efficiency and its low but I'd argue that's not relevant given how much we throw to move the ball downfield. It's going to deflate that stat.
-Blake throws a lot of picks. Other people don't throw as many but have some fumbles to account for. Slightly alarming.
-Blake isn't very efficient in completing his passes. That's probably a virtue of being in a pass happy offense. I'd like to see it improve, still not too sad about it.
Bottom line: lots of people inflate what bortles has done. He's probably in the 10-15 range as QBs go. Just because you throw it far doesn't mean your offense is running optimally.
There's something to be said about how well MM and Hoyer are doing. There are varying models of success.
We have a good QB. TBD still if he's a special talent.
