Quote:No, they're right. Bortles is a bust. The number of interceptions he's thrown, particularly in his rookie season, are too costly for him to turn it around; it's a habit that will always make him lose games. No quarterback worth their salt would throw that many. Look at the vast array of busts with high interception numbers:
Peyton Manning - 28 INTs in his first season (a 4.9% INT ratio, worse than anything Bortles has put up so far). Bust, will never amount to anything.
Brett Favre - left his first team with a 50% INT ratio (4 throws, 2 interceptions, at least one of them a pick 6). In his first full year as a starter managed 24 INTs, at a 4.6% ratio. Out of the league within a few years, clearly not starter material.
Eli Manning - has had 20, 25, and 27 INT seasons, all with higher INT percentages than Blake. Yeah, he's never going to make Superbowl MVP.
Please stop with the Manning reference. I understand what you mean, but Bortles is NOT Manning. I'm not sure we will see another Brady/Manning in our lifetimes.
Quote:If you don't see blake as a franchise qb then you're dumb and misinformed football fan.
Would you stop being so sensitive. My goodness you are so defensive when someone has a difference of opinion. You don't know anything about anyone on this board. The only thing we all know is, we are all fans of this team. A non-Jaguar fan would not be seen around these parts.

Nobody is saying that Bortles is Manning. All the QBs I'm bringing up had different play styles, and not all of them are similar to Bortles in that respect. All I'm saying is this; here is a selection of QBs who would be rated as elite and who have, in some cases early in their careers, in others throughout their careers, thrown interceptions at the same rate or more than Bortles is at the moment.
If you're willing to dismiss Bortles as a failure because he has a 3.2% INT ratio, then you've got to do the same to the other QBs who did that - and that includes a lot of players who are rightly considered great.

I will admit, I overreacted when I said Bortles sucks. I supported him up until that horrible INT at the end of the game. I am ready for him to start making better decisions. Since he's been the starter, he has not had a complete game where he does everything right. He looks really good, but the mistakes is what is costing us the games. I'd say right now Carr is better than him, but with good coaching and better decisions, Bortles will be that guy we've always wanted. I already know he will be better than Brunnel, but we need to get rid of Gus ASAP. He needs to eliminate these turnovers like yesterday.
He is only in his second year. He is going to make mistakes. As good as Carr has been, he threw a terrible pick in the end zone this past Sunday late in the fourth quarter.
Quote:He is only in his second year. He is going to make mistakes.
More than that. He's only in his second year
and he was a player that we knew coming into the league was going to be raw. He wasn't supposed to even sniff the field in his first year. That much was made perfectly clear up front. He's just a handful of games into the period when he was expected to start, when he was drafted to start.
Bortles is playing as expected as 2nd year QB. Based on how he is playing, I do not believe you can predict how he will turn out. Below are the stats for the current 2015 2nd year QB crop followed by the stats for the the Top 40 QB's rated by Quarterback Rating in their 2nd year dating back to 1980.
Notice that there are a number of QB's with just as high an Interception Percentage as Blake. Just as many who made mistakes. You hope he improves is numbers by the end of season but He is not a lost cause. Before you say that Carr looks like he may be the best of the class and future superstar, remember that Nick Foles is No 1.

Looking at this list and completion % vs Blake is somewhat disturbing.

Damn, look at Dan Marino. He was ready to roll when he strolled into the league.

Realizing that Bortles is the best quarterback we've had since Brunell tells me that we've not had much luck with QB's over the years.
Quote:Best nickname I can think of.
Shakes head**
Rookie mistakes... Rookie Mistakes......Rookie Mistakes?
Some terrible decision making so far.. again.
a couple more could have been picked too... starting to worry now.
BBINT :turned:
Fans like you piss me off... 1st of all he's a second year QB with a questionable coach, and questionable o-line and rookie running back. 2nd a few interceptions was because of stuff like the muffed punts and Rb fumbles late in games and he was trying to make a comeback in a short time. Lastly, he's shown a HUGE leap from last year in everyway! He went from looking like what could be a bust to getting national spot light as a young great qb. In the mid-season this year he already has 6 or 7 tds more than he did all of last year and on paste to have WAY more yards as well! Be happy we have a young QB that can make the throws, get the yards and tds. He still learning, still progressing. Chill out. You should be very happy he has potential to be elite, heck especially coming from Luke McCown, Blaine Gabbert, and Chad henne... I could go on and on but imma end the vent here... Bortles is doing great... you act like he supposed to have a Tom Brady year and has a team talent like NE... smh

And it's really hard to find a young, franchise QB.
Ima be honest. I was flat our wrong about Carr.
Did not think he would be this good.

Only reason i wish TMD was still around was to eat crow on this one. Carr is a star.

Tom Brady did win the super bowl in his second year. Just saying.

Yes as the stats above show, he averaged 190 yards a game with only 18 TDs, and 12 INT's. Also his Passer Rating is not much higher than Bortles right now, so it is not like Bortles cannot play better the next 8 games.
On top that, Brady had a better defense and running game.

So did Roethlisberger and Bortles has already thrown for as many TD's as Big Ben did that entire season.

Brady also had, a dominant defense, a great running game, a great mentor (Bledsoe), oh ya one of the greatest coaches of all time. Not a close comparison at all. Jus sayin.

It's a joke of a comparison.....Tom Brady got hurt and Bill Belichick STILL went (11-5) with Matt Cassel. If Bortles got hurt and Henne started, Gus would go (1-15) if he was lucky.
Bortles has very little help on this team. His defense is terrible 30th in PPG; they don't even cause turnovers and put the offense in good positions
