The joy of DVR is that I haven't watched a commercial in I can't remember how long. Good golly it was mandatory during mudslinging campaign season

I stream everything ad free across several platforms but youtube more than makes up for all the ads I don't see and I have no reason to subscribe to their service. I go on there to look up a video and BAM there's Bey taking off her jeans. Again.

I pay something like $140 for Youtube Premium (no ads) and it is worth every penny.
In college football, some teams have adopted this thing where they turn down the stadium lights when the home team scores a TD. I don't like that. It doesn't look good on TV.
Tesla trucks. They’re soooo ugly.

It truly is hideous.

Someone here in my area drives one and I see it all over the county. I even saw it at the local Habitat for Humanity Restore which is more of a thrift store than the one in Duval county.

I thought you were old enough to remember the Pacer.

That’s even better looking that the Tesla truck! The truck looks like a delorean knocked up a Pontiac Aztec that was actually his first cousin.

AMC specialized in designing ugly cars. The only one they built that looked halfway decent was the AMX.

Our elderly landlady drove a green Pacer like the one in the picture. She drove it through the front of her house because she got the brake and gas pedals mixed up. I heard the boom and went running to check. I got there just in time to see her staggering out of the rubble, uninjured, looking entirely in shock and confusion. Her sister took away her driver's license afterwards.

I remember it well.  I also remember the Pontiac Aztec.  But those are not half as ugly as a Tesla Cybertruck.  I can't believe they can sell those things, but every now and then I see one.
Not really a "trivial" annoyance.

Modern appliances.

In our home in Jacksonville we had some appliances that were 20 years old that were working just fine.  When we moved into our new home in 2021 we bought new appliances.  Nothing fancy or "smart", we just wanted some new stuff to go with our new home.

We purchased a Samsung front load clothes washer that has given us nothing but problems since we first bought it (supposedly low water pressure).  Even though we have a well, our water pressure is just fine.

This past weekend our ~3 year old refrigerator quit working.  Again nothing fancy, just a side-by-side Frigidaire with an ice maker/water dispenser.  I was able to repair it, but I shouldn't have to at around 3 years old.

They’ve cheapened out. When we updated our kitchen, we replaced all of the old Whirlpool appliances with Maytag (which is the same company now). While none of it has broken down (except for an issue with the dishwasher which I fixed), the quality of build between the old Whirlpool and new Maytag is obvious. However, the Maytag washer and dryer we upgraded to are solidly built. Too bad their kitchen appliances are built more for looks than robustness.

Unfortunately, Samsung has a reputation for being problematic. I did a little research before we bought our appliances and what I found steered me away from that brand.

Yup.  My good friends moved into their home right before we moved.  They purchased a $3000.00 Samsung refrigerator with a 5 year warranty.  At 5 years and 1 month it quit (compressor).  The repair guy said that it wasn't worth fixing ($1200.00 for the part plus labor).  My friend tried to give it to the repair guy and he said it wasn't worth his time.  Apparently Samsung and LG appliances use some different kind of compressor that is more expensive and doesn't have a long lifespan (right around 5 years).  Their 5 year old refrigerator ended up going to the scrap guys.

My father has an old refrigerator that was built in the early 70's in his garage as his beer fridge.  It keeps the beer nice and cold to this day.
I read recently that appliances that are certified Energy Star are not built for performance but for whatever they define as energy efficient according to guidelines that make them Energy Star rated. Couple that with the general craptastic quality of things today and we get what we get.

This came from several repairmen who have been around for a couple of decades, at least. The truly crappy thing is folks pay $5K for a fridge that lasts 3 years.
Even Whirlpool has gone to hell. My daughter bought a Whirlpool washer and dryer set a few years ago and the washer has been nothing but trouble. Instead of just replacing it, the warranty company had just about all the major parts replaced in it over several repair visits, which still didn’t fix the issue and cost much more than a new one. The problem? Finally a repairman showed up who actually knew his trade and discovered that the holes in the tub had not been drilled completely through so the water wasn’t draining properly before the spin cycle.

The plus side is she has a practically new washer now.
I'm starting to notice some incredibly beautiful women appearing in advertisements.  But when I look closely, I realize, it is not a real person.  It's AI generated.  Which leaves me feeling cheated, that those women don't actually exist in the world.  Seriously.
