Home from surgery. Six screws, a plate, and some kinda pulley thingy to put my ankle back together. Plus they had to repair a couple of ligaments that I tore in my foot and ankle. I think the technical term the guys used was "you really did a number on your ankle buddy". Now to eat. I haven't eaten anything since 6:00 last night.

Did they at least send you home with the good stuff for pain?

A prescription for it anyway.  They did a nerve-block on my lower leg so I can't feel a damn thing below my knee right now.  It's kinda freaky.  I can see my foot but I can't move it.  They said it will last 24 hours.  I'm supposed to start taking the oxy at around noon tomorrow.

Dude, my xray looks like somebody spilled a box of screws on the floor at Lowe's.

He's also told me this is going to be very painful for at least a week and the oxy will just dull it.  Right now, the nerve-block that I got before surgery still has my leg numb below the knee.  I have a feeling I'll wish it feels like this again by tomorrow afternoon.

Golf and bowling are obviously out for quite a while.  I'm hoping I'll be OK to hobble into the Jags games once they start.

I don't think anyone has asked the most important question - you still allowed to enjoy a tasty beerverage while on the meds?

[BLEEP], I'm barely coherent on the oxy.  It's not helping the pain a whole lot, but I'm in a definite fog.

Man I sure hate you're going through this. The pain meds most definitely don't get rid of the pain, they just make it "tolerable". I hope you heal quickly!

He said 7-10 days and it should start to ease.  I hope he's right.  Today has been brutal.

I totally understand just with a different type of surgery. At least they gave you the good stuff for pain. I was sent home with ten Tramadol after major abdominal surgery. Tramadol doesn't even make the pain tolerable, it just pisses you off. I had a block for my surgery and between the side effects from that all by itself and the pain when it wore off....I wanted someone to put me out of my misery. This was back in September. They told me it'll take a year to fully recover. I don't know that full recovery is possible when you're missing some of your colon.
