When store are pushing the self checkout. The new Home Depot off Racetrack is the worst offender I’ve seen. I walk in and grab a dolly and some contractor bags and search the front of the store. I asked the girl, you know the girl that cheerfully steers you to the machines taking her job, “Do you have normal checkout?” She says “Oh yes, right over there.” It was the freaking customer service desk with five people in line.

When you see the kind of people they train to do checkout, that should tell you, self checkout is not hard. The instructions are right on the screen.

When you see the kind of people they train to do checkout, that should tell you, self checkout is not hard. The instructions are right on the screen.
Did I say it was hard?
Considering the lines at the few open registers and that there are multiple open self check outs, that tells me I’m not the only one that doesn’t want to fool with them.
It's not shoplifting, I was using my employee discount at the self checkout.

More likely is that the stores will begin charging a fee NOT to use self-check.
First world problems are so annoying.

Not to mention, if I’m deciding to spend my money at a store, they can at least ring it up. Especially at a Home Depot where you can easily spend a bunch of money. If it does ever come to a ‘convenience fee’ or whatever to use a cashier then I’ll just drive further and go to a different store that cares a little more about service.

It's all about competition. If the store can use the money they save on cashiers to reduce their prices, then they might win your business. But they would have to decide if people like you are willing to pay more to have a cashier.
My point is, self-checkout is as easy, if not easier, than using a cashier. Put your credit card in the credit card reader, pick up the little scanning gun, scan your stuff, select "finished," get your receipt, and walk out. What's so hard about that? I prefer that to unloading all my stuff onto the belt and watching the cashier slam my bananas into a bag.

About a week ago I forgot to scan a six pack of half liters. I went back to pay for it but apparently it's very easy to just not scan something and walk out of the store with it.
These idiots who scam call all. day. long. I guess our number gets sold to some [BLEEP] "company" that decides to auto dial your house every day to tell you about whatever.
Not a trivial annoyance. A legit anger management issue. My husband works nights so our phone ringer is turned off but the answering machine still turns on and we get a stupid number of messages. Jackholes.

are in the 21st century......barely. The only reason we keep the home phone is my husband has a side business (23 years now) and between clients, the county, real estate folks, etc., it's been the same number all those years. And our internet cost would go through the roof if we broke up the bundle.
When I moved into my college apartment we got the 3-in-1 bundle of TV, internet, and phoneline because it was the only bundle that didn't have a data cap on it. In the nine years I lived there we never even contemplated getting an actual phone.
