Full Version: Who is Andrew Luck?

Quote:Luck's inability to be consistent throwing the ball mid to deep is not something new--it's been around all 3 years and never went away.  For you to pretend his inaccuracy is just these first two games shows how inept you are to think objectively...

Also, welcome back...  Thought you were gonna be gone for a week...  LOL, kinda pathetic that you got your feelings hurt, and then decided to slink back here with your tail between your legs...

Anyhoo...  Good to see you.  Next time, if you get upset, just stop and walk away from the computer.  Don't have a tantrum and claim you won't come back till next week...

Everything about this post is 100% wrong.

Luck can throw the ball as far as anyone in the game. Is arm is far from weak. Plus, that had NOTHING to do with my comment. I was stating about his bad game play. He's had 3 good years & recently has a stretch of 2 bad games in a row (which, is probably the first time in his career, without going back to look at every game).

Also, my feelings have never been hurt on a message board and never will be. My only point is this is a football message board, act like it is (which, once again you've failed to do *shocker*). Also about the week thing I was talking in terms of speaking about the game that was played. I always give my thoughts on the game, which I will be doing this Sunday as well. Catch up.

Good one
Is there anybody in here who would actually really bet against Luck winning the AFCS division this year, even after their 0-2 start where Luck has looked pretty bad out there so far this season?

Well, one of these guys is going to win the division, Bortles, Mariota, Mallett (Hoyer) or Luck, barring injury.

Who's your pick?

I think it is a good bet considering no team has ever done it.

If I say Jags it is a homer pick, but the stars could be aligning.

Excellent contribution.
He's only just short of David Garrards career passer rating so can't question his elite skills...
I would like to point out that while the line isn't great, Luck makes some poor decisions and throws.  If he ever wants to break into elite group he will have to learn to play another down instead of forcing throws that aren't there.  I mean they were still very much in that Jets game, but the turnovers were too much to overcome.

well... if winning the division came down to just the QBs?

I might take Mariota... wheels and all....

But since it is a team sport, and looking over the teams....

a 7-9 Seahawks-esque division winner could be the Jags.

Would I bet money, right now, that the clots don't win the division?

Sure I would... because odds are against them and they haven't shown much in 2 weeks to make me think Luck is good enough to drag them out of the Grigson hell hole.

(I wouldn't bet on any specific team to win it, which has been my point all along, there is no clear cut favorite, despite any homerism toward the clots on here, in Indy, or on ESPN)

Quote:Ehhh.... I'm gonna have to err on the side of reality.

They've done nothing to improve the team around him, except giving him more targets to throw to.

In the previous years... he's been able to toss the rock, this year it seems the Oline is worse.

And he is making more mistakes, instead of elevating his game.

Here's my theory. He was a once-in-a-generation sure fire pick....

Who had already hit his ceiling in college.

A guy who carried his team until enough NFL tape was out there on him to know his tendencies... and now is being caught because the GM has not done enough to protect this sure fire QB.

I'm not saying Bortles is better than Luck......

I'm not saying Luck is a bad QB..

I'm just sayin....... not as advertised, imo.

Well put.

The reality is he's certainly not the "once in a generation" QB he has been advertised to be.

But doesn't that happen every year?

Not the once-in-a-generation type claim. But the over-hype of a QB.

or a "safest player in the draft" pick...

When it boils down to it Luck was the right choice at #1 overall. Better than RG3.

They needed a QB. They got him.

I down right can't believe anything "they" say pre-NFL....

Pretty sad that those 2 words bring as much to most threads as your over-worded whining does.

When in Rome though.

I still think the colts have the highest % chance to win the division based on the overall team talent.

If this was next year when the jags rookies and bortles had another season under their belts, I'd say jaguars.

Luck is still a good qb. He makes current top 10. (He is still vastly overrated.)

I'd say

Colts - 50%

Jaguars - 30%

Texans - 10%

Titans - 10%

Is how I feel right now. It'll change as the season wears on.
Luck's no regular season Peyton Manning, that's for sure.

This is coming from a Colts fan, so please take the following for what it's worth:

I would agree that there was a lot of hype surrounding Andrew Luck when he entered the league. A lot of that had to do with him being the consensus #1 pick two years in a row, and eventually the circumstances for which he entered the league (following a legend in Indy). The hype was not self induced, however. Unlike RGIII, he did not have TV commercials and endorsements. He refused to have them until he had proven that he could play in the league. This is commendable but we are not here to discuss his character, I suppose.

What would the hype indicate about Andrew Luck? They said he was a once in a generation talent. So what has he done to live up to the hype?

-Did he set rookie passing records?  Yes, numerous, including most yards passed by a rookie in a season and most yards passed by a rookie in one game.

- As a rookie, did he lead his team of fellow rookies, Reggie Wayne, Robert Mathis and sub-par defense to the playoffs? Yes.

As a second year player did he show improvement? Yes, he increased his TDs and decreased hs INTs while leading the team further into the playoffs.

As a third year player did he show improvement? Yes, he led the league in TDs and was third in passing yards. Led the team to the AFC Championship game and set the record for most passing yards in the first 3 seasons.

The thing about Andrew Luck is that he has accomplished a lot, while doing it in a very ugly way. I see no reason why he can't improve. For those saying that he reached his peak in college is just intellectually dishonest as we can clearly see that he has improved. There are still aspects of his game that he can improve upon, no doubt. We all know about his turnover issues, and it is an issue. No denying that.

Luck is a very good QB.  It's difficult to dispute that.  However, I don't put him into what I'd view as an elite status because, unlike others who have reached that level, he's not a guy that's going to go out there and carry the team to victory even when it's stocked full of a bunch of nobodys.  There are very few QBs in the league with that capability who can elevate the play of those around them.  As we've seen this year, with adversity, Luck and the colts are a beatable team.  They've had the great fortune over the years of playing in a fairly weak division.  As the competition for the division improves, I don't think the colts have done much to match that.  While it hasn't shown on the field in recent years, they are going to be challenged soon enough, and even the consensus #1 pick isn't going to be able to prevent the slide.

I'm just going to leave this....

Quote:I think he gets a free pass. Part of it is because he's "the natural". Some of it is because he been in an awful division. And some of it is because he plays in Indianapolis.

Most people only see him a couple of times a year. He's not on national TV every other week like Brady, Peyton and Rodgers. People don't see him as often as they do those guys.

He doesn't play in a major east coast market like RGIII and Eli. So he doesn't get the scrutiny those guys do.

The numbers don't lie. He's been middle of the road.

This seems like a pretty sharp guy

I agree.  It reminds me of the wisdom about this thread posted just on spot ahead....

Quote:This thread is going to become huge.

I agree this year will tell us a lot.  So far he has been a really good QB, but this year should let us know if he is going to turn that corner and become one of those 3/4 guys you have to be near perfect to beat.  Should be interesting.
Looking at the first few pages of this thread is a great reminder of why we should all be glad that TMD is banned.

Yeah he had a weird amount invested on Luck meeting his hype due to banging on about tanking.

Mallet and Luck currently the worst 2 ranked QBs in the NFL, he would be in full meltdown mode right now.
