I remember watching that tackle on Henry and thinking "holy crap", because no one else makes that play. But he does need to become more of a playmaker in the pass rush. On third and long, he needs to be that drive destroyer.
Whenever i hear the staff talk about the style/type of player they want Walker to develop into i can't help thinking it's a considerable shame Calais isn't still on the roster ...

Mentors probably wouldn't have come much better
Walker did not exactly rack up the sacks. 3.5 sacks in 18 games played? I hope he can study hard to improve his technique this off-season. However, I’m not sure we win the titans game without him.
He needs to play inside.

Taven Bryan is mentoring Walker.  That's why they pretty much got the same amount of sacks this year.

A lot more to playing Defense than just sacks. The sacks will come for him as he learns and develops his pass rush game. He also drew a number of holding penalties (called and not called) that would have likely been sacks as well, but those don't show up on the stat sheet.

He's already really good at so much other stuff and he's just going to get better and better.
Lol nice video. I see what you did there.

He also had some personal fouls called against him for hitting the QB late and for helmet to helmet hits.
I’m not regretting taking him over Hutch. You take out Hutch’s gimme’s were the Oline just didn’t block him he’s on par with Travon. They being close as it stands currently bodes well for the unlimited potential project. Frankly the best rookie pass rusher was Thibs.

Walker is already an elite run defender though and showed signs at the end of the year of being a monster. I expect a big year two jump from him, and I expect him to separate himself from Hutch as a complete player.
As an edge rusher, there is no comparison. Hutchinson is the much, much, much better player and always will be. Walker is playing out of position. He is a 3-4 DE who can play DT as well, but he's never going to be an elite or even a very good pass rusher. That's not what he is. He is a run stuffing DE. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just not something you spend the #1 overall pick on. Everyone I talked to knew that, but Baalke wanted to show everyone that he saw something no one else did. I just hope we have enough sense to move Walker back to his natural position where he can thrive. Personally, I was dead set on wanting CB "Sauce" Gardner. That kid is special. I believe he will be a Hall of Famer someday. For God's sake he was a starter at Cincinnati since he was a freshman and he never gave up a touchdown. If that doesn't scream #1 overall pick, what does?
Hutch - 29 pressures on 839 snaps - (3.45%)

Walker - 21 pressures on 788 snaps (2.66%)

This will be interesting to watch next year. I don't think you can glean too much from the rookie years.
Different players in different situations.
Remember Khalil Mack had 4 sacks during his rookie year as well.
I would rather have Hutchinson, but Walker is a pretty close second. I'm just a big believe in rushing the passer. I know we are hoping Walker is going to get better, but isn't Hutch going to get better too?

Robert Mathis had 3.5 sacks his rookie year

Maybe a little but Hutchinson came out much more a finished product. What you see is basically what you're going to get in year 3 or 4 with some subtle improvements. With Walker, he's just scratching the surface. Neither player will ever be a JJ Watt perhaps but Walker will end up being a better player in the long term.
Agree with the sentiments what we should have drafted sauce in retrospect. There were people saying that at the time, and I was okay with it. However, much like Lawrence clearly separated from Mack on Patriots year 2, maybe walker will prove to be the more dominant player this upcoming year

Analysts across the NFL spectrum seem to universally laud Walker with having more upside and potential for growth.
He was the more raw prospect of the two. Higher ceiling.

Maybe just by a little being Walker didn't rush the passer as much as Hutch did and was moved around much more so settling in a more of just a pass rusher amd one position for the most part should help.  But both are elite athletes though.   Walker had the 3rd highest ras since record and Hutch was 19th all time.  Both should improve a good bit although it's much easier to improve the sack number when you have 3.5 sacks vs 9.5.  If Walker improves the sack number by 5 and gets 8.5 yet Hutch only improves his sack number by 3 to 12.5, Walker improved more yet Hutch still had the higher sack number.   With that said it's much more than just a sack number and I think both will be really good, a little bit different players.
