Dudes massive and a freak of an athlete. It's awesome he can cover, but I feel like it would benefit the team way more if they focused him on pass rushing. If we had sacks racking up else where things would be different.

4 sacks yesterday.  Three bay Allen, one by Travon. Things are going in the right direction.

And every QB we play won't be as mobile as Richardson either, that bodes well. But they likely won't be as inaccurate either, so that probably balances the scales.

I think it was risky to take the gamble that high but we've got to see it play out. He may ultimately end up being seen as overdrafted but no was does Walker play like Jane. Maybe Cheeta.

True, saying he plays like Jane is exaggerating. He doesn't justify his draft position with his play, but he seems like he could end up a guy like Alualu. Plays 10+ years as a contributor but never a pro bowl type.

He'd have been a fine third or fourth round pick, he's just going to always catch criticisms because of how stupid the Jaguars were to draft him where they did.

THAT is an overreaction. He’s already a better player. And he’s 10 times the athlete.

I'd say it looks about what he should have.
With Allen going off yesterday, I could see him get more attention from the protection scheme for the chiefs next week. As a result, there may be opportunities for others to make plays on defense and I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Travon show up on the stat sheet again.
Many here said it when he was drafted, many said it during his rookie season, many are still saying it.

Walker has not yet learned the hand skill/technique possessed by the top tier pass rushers in the NFL.
If he can get that put together he'll be a major problem for every offense we face.

He's not disengaging blocks because he's still learning these techniques and figuring out how to employ them effectively.
I hope that some combo of Bill Shuey, Brenston Buckner and Mike Caldwell are making this a major priority in the kid's development.

Below is a perfect example of one such hands technique being used to perfection.

That was nasty. I think they'll give him one more year at OLB to develop the moves. I would rather see him inside for this example here.

You would think with his size and strength he would be able to lean in on the guard/center and try to use his back to spin into the play.

We'll see. Still optimistic. He still made two really good plays yesterday and there's a lot of things he's doing that won't get documented on a stat sheet where he's eating up space to free everybody else up to make a play.

I mean, [BLEEP], how many times did they stop Richardson and that offense on 4th and short situations? Felt like damn near 5.

Here's a collection of good snaps Walker had in Indy yesterday

The music made me think I was watching a Matt Helm or Our Man Flint film.  Loved it.

The one at the 00:30 sec mark was impressive. he switched off the tackle and pushed that guard into next week.

All of them were good plays. He also was very effective initiating contact with rb behind the line. And wrapping him up for gang tackles.

If chassion would have blown passed the line there is no doubt he would bumped the rb and completely miss the wrap up. Walker is good. I’ve never said he wasn’t. I just didn’t like drafting him that high. We shall see.

"georgia on my mind" is the tune being played and he was a UGA bulldog, so...

Walker's pass rush win rate over all games of his career charted below.

Yesterday in indy was a top five career performance from him in terms of beating his block on pass rushes.
Good way to start a new season.

Looks pretty disruptive to me.

It was one of his better games as a pro. The sack was impressive.

He has the tools, just not the technique. I think he will become a solid pass rusher (perhaps a 10-12 sack a year guy) with time.  The problem is it's going to take a lot of time to get that going. It was just a terrible decision to draft a raw prospect #1 overall. It is not Walkers fault and I will continue to root for him.

He's on pace for 17 this year as you type this.  This seems an unnecessarily negative take at this particular moment.

He's good. Just not #1 overall pick worthy good at the moment. We have a lot of trust fund kids on this board. When they got toys as kids it was already preassembled, came fully charged with batteries and had all the batteries.

Nobody wants to wait and see with Walker.

I don't mind waiting to see with some draft picks, but when you use the first overall pick in the entire draft, you normally expect get a player who contributes a lot right away, rather than having to wait 2-3 years.  Waiting 2-3 years is fine for a late first round or later pick, IMO.  I think we overthought this one a little bit.  It seems fairly obvious that Hutchinson should have been the pick.  I'm not totally out on Walker, though.  Like all of us, I'll just have to hope he can put it all together and become a dominant force eventually.

Odd way to look at it. I guess Josh Allen is on pace for 51 sacks.

PFF also post grades every week. Travon got 49.8. This is mostly because they assessed him to be very bad against the run with a 39.8 grade.

Did not say he was getting to 17 which should have been obvious.  The timing of saying it's going to take him a while to get to be a 10 sack per year guy when he's currently on pace to do so this year is the oddity here.
