Coming out of college with a
30,000 debt is indeed a barrier.
When I went to college in the late 90s, I paid 1000 per semester at UNM... I waited tables on the weekends and paid my way through college and had a pretty decent apartment....
Tuition at unm now is 7,000 per semester... there there's no way I could have done what I did in the 90s with that type of tuition cost.

As with all subsidies, once the government starts giving money away the cost for whatever they're subsidizing grows.

Decoupling the price of a good or service from the ability of the consumer to afford it (through the miracle of government subsidies) inevitably leads to massive INFLATION.

Hmmm... how come the cost of milk, bread, cheese, etc haven't sky rocketed in the manner that tuition has?
Also, there were student loans and Pell grants available during the 90s...

I didn't know the government had a "anyone who asks is given" policy on milk like they do college loans, though I am regularly paying $4 a gallon for the stuff that only cost $2 back in the 90s.
I would prefer that many Americans revert back in some ways to a 100 years ago when we produced our own produce on our farms for our families and didn't rely solely on 'GMO- scientist messing with nature. It used to be that an average American a 100 years ago could explain how everything that they use is made & its function while today many would simply die without electricity. Is that truly progress, or slavery?
Paul Ryan has his own agenda to run in 2020 and the move he makes here is an important one.

That guy went into a homeless shelter and took photo opportunities and left without actually helping the homeless as a volunteer when he was nominated for VP... he is the part of the problem with Washington.. sure he smiles for the camera and says things that conservatives want to hear.. but he is really only out for himself.. a true phony politician.. see right thru him.. i don't like the guy.

Back in a previous life that I don't wish to ever relive, I was an enrollment advisor.
Dependants only get about half of the total amount available on the Stafford (now called Direct) loans. And they usually never get any grants if there parents are working.
