Quote:I think you know I am not hanging everything on two vines, and that actually I have had a pretty gloomy outlook on our LT for a long while now  and the vines (and scrimmage) only help to support my opinion.
His struggles in past seasons are easy enough to understand.  There is every reason to expect him to take the next step in his progression this season.  He ended last year healthy, and has had a full off season to work on getting stronger and better conditioned.  I honestly don't care what he's done in a "scrimmage" that is nothing more than a practice in the stadium, or on those vines.  We'll have a much better idea of where he's at when there's another team on the field besides ours.

Quote:Joeckel working at OTTO.

Talk about desperate. Joeckel is way too big and slow to be an OTTO. Nose tackle is the place for him if this left tackle thing isn't working out Wink
Quote:I hate thread titles like these..  A number of the regulars around here like to toss out insults at me because I am an aggressive critic at times, but this is just unsportsmanlike.  The guy is a human being...  and besides, it doesn't help the team.  The ONLY way Jax will climb out of loser-dom is as a TEAM..

True, but a TEAM is only as strong as its weakest link.

Joeckel is not the weakest link on this team.

Post of the day
Quote:So far he hasn't lived up to Mike Pearson.

Come on man!
Luke "the Joke" Joeckel. That's on Caldwell regardless of how the draft was; you're paid to draft winners too in this league. Outside of that he's put together a good roster, he just picked the wrong head coach.

snh!snhhh! smell that? get a whiff
Quote:That's not unreasonable at all. How about we wait until he's actually in a game situation before we make any declarations? Is that being unreasonable? Or, should we hang everything on 2 vines posted despite the fact people have no idea what's actually happening in the drill, but it must be Joeckel screwing up, right? Of course, they don't talk about the vine where he's walking the DE away from the QB that was also posted in this thread because, well, that wouldn't serve the agenda.

I actually did mention that vine where he was driving branch backwards and said he is a good run blocker. But that doesn't fit your agenda now does it.

That drill is not that hard to get a grasp of. It's called a pass rush drill ya know when the d line goes against an offensive lineman. It's the job of the dlineman to get to the qb and the job of the olineman to protect the qb. Not that difficult.

It's one of those minimalist drills. Defensive linemen are rotated, but offensive linemen stay in. To maintain energy, they need to understand how little effort they can get away with...

This team been snake bitten wayyy before Caldwell and Gus arrived. Just our luck that the consensus #1 overall pick is not panning out so far... got injured... a possible HOF type WR, Blackmon raising one to the sky and taking one to the head.

It's not Dave's fault that his 1st draft, there was no real good alternative selection besides Fischer. A draft in which we happen to have been picking #2, so one would think it would be the perfect draft for the young duo (coach n GM) to start building this thing. However, that draft lacked in comparative talent thru out, let alone in the top five, top three, even the 1$T round for that matter.

It's not Dave's fault that Fowler...

You know what. It surely was Gene's fault when he reached on a D-Tackle from Cal, a sort of off the radar selection at 10.

It was Gene's fault when he selected a punter from Cal in the THIRD ROUND! That o anger person.

It was Gene's fault when he decided to move up and, with stellar valor and vigor, bring to the state, sunshine; packaged in a pretty pink pocket with spread offense, unicorns and butterfies.

This franchise has been hurt and it just take a lil time to heal.

Wayne is the man for ensuring that the new owner would remain committed to Jacksonville. I hope that fans and residents of that area can recognize the importance and appreciate that. I know I surely do, being simply a fan.

u know, u had me goin there for a sec
While reading an article by Ryan OHalloran, he reported that the team was keeping score on the 1 on 1 pass rush drills. Linder had the best score of 8 out of 9, but interestingly, Joeckel had a score of 7 out of 11. This scoring rates who won the 1 on 1 contest.

I thought it was interesting that Chris Smith won 10 1 on 1 contests.

Again, thanks for pointing out the fact that you really are clueless.

I am clueless and this clown doesn't even know what a pass rush drill looks like.  Whatever makes you feel better I guess.

Chris Smith, Telvin Smith, and Colvin just jumped out at me when watching games last year.  Ryan Davis also belongs to that group but was a leftover from the last regime.

As did Denard and Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns (sometimes), and Brandon Linder on offense. I would add Demetrius McCray as a guy who has talent that shows. Dave has made good decisions more often then not, and now we just have to wait to see how he did with the 3 picks on the most important positions in football: QB, DE (pass rusher really), and LT. We will have a pretty clear view on Joeckel by seasons end barring injury, and Fowler and Bortles still have plenty of time to develop.

Gus has made his fair share of mistakes over his first couple seasons, but he's showing an ability to develop talented players that Dave gets him. A functional gm/hc combo is something this team hasn't had since Coughlin and Coughlin was running the team.

I'm gonna at least wait until December to start judging the progress of individual players or coaches. Yall carry on hand wringing over training camp practices if you like.
I think the concerns with Gus are more about in-game management than player development.

Keep clinging to those vines.  They tell the whole story in your little world.

I would also question his assistant hires.
