Boselli was consistent immediately.

He hurt his knee in training camp his rookie year and did not play until the 4th game of the season, a nationally televised home game against the Green Bay Packers.

He went up against former Raider Sean Jones-an accomplished DE and a formidable task for most LTs.

Boselli absolutely dominated him.

I was at the game, and I recorded the game.  I still have that game on VHS.

  Thanks,  Bullseye.   Great information!

Sean Jones was a good complimentary DE for Reggie White,  arguably the best Defensive player in NFL history.    Considering that Sean Jones was productive with the Packers,  which was the final part of his very good career,   that's quite an accomplishment for Tony Boselli in his first NFL regular season game.
He's just hustling everyone in preseason so he can make some money on the LJ QB pressures over/under.

Honestly I think he's been getting better as the preseason goes on. Marrone, a great OL coach, seems to like him just fine, he'll get better as the coaching starts to sink in.

I'm also pretty positive Olson isn't a dummy and is going to know we may need to dedicate Lewis or a RB to pick up a block on the left side often.

Regardless, this line is exponentially better than last year as it is.
Quote:The whole thing to me is consistency. Luke will have like 3 plays a game where he looks bad, and because he's a LT, and because we are fans with limited perspective, and because we had TBos, we assume he must be so, so bad.

We fail to have perspective that one of the best today, Jason Peters gives up sacks, some years over 10 a year, and he makes Pro Bowls.

There just aren't TBos's and Walter Jones around anymore
Agreed.  We were spoiled early on, and since then, every guy who has played that position has been forced to achieve the same feats Boselli did, and to do it quickly.  Otherwise, he's a bust.

Boselli was a rare talent.  They just don't come along that often.  Look at some of the top tackles taken in recent drafts.  Teams keep hoping they'll find that guy, but it's almost as elusive as landing a franchise QB.

Joeckel had a few bad plays the other night, and they were magnified because CBS focused on them.  While his performance wasn't always pretty, how many sacks did Detroit register while Bortles was on the field, and how many came from the left side?  Joeckel has room for improvement.  There's no arguing that, but overall, I thought he had a pretty solid outing all things considered.  The hope is that he continues to improve.  No doubt, he'll be receiving plenty of attention from the coaching staff to make sure that happens.  He can't be a liability out there putting the QB at risk.
Quote:Maybe I just don't remember two years ago that well. I remember Pasztor being serviceable that year but Bradfield looking bad. There was one game in particular against Buffalo where he had one of the worst games I remember a tackle having.

My memory may be a little fuzzy as well, but the only time I remember Bradfield doing well was when Monroe was injured for a couple games back in 2011.
Lets just resign Boselli

Quote:Was cam Bradfield at LT much worse?

We were able to run a halfway effective offense with Bradfield at LT in 2013, even getting 4 wins out of 5 IIRC.

How does he stack up to Khalif Barnes? I think Barnes has the edge there.

Honestly the best comparison to Joeckel at this time is probably Mike Pearson.

Not really. Pearson was ok in pass protection but was an absolute scrub when it came to run blocking. If anything, Joekel is the opposite of Pearson. Khalif vs Joekel actually is a very good comparison.

Well, a man's greatest critic is usually himself.

So now that Bortles looks like the real deal you are going to start a Joeckel thread every week?

My god man, that should never happen to a starting caliber NFL LT, that's embarrassing.
Good Lord, that is depressing. Didn't this guy hit the gym this off-season? I have met drunk guys in the Bud Zone who could hold a block longer than that and they are fat and out of shape.

Whats scary is that wasn't Ziggy Ansah going up against him, it looks like he's unable to keep his feet under him
Shaking my head in dismay.

He looked like one of the turtles from Mario Brothers.

Wow. Looks like his ankle got caught up in the grass, but still not really an excuse. Just terrible.

Anyone know if Boselli has commented on it yet? How do you defend that?

Austin Pasztor?  What about him?

I love seeing Blake do well on that play but... that other guy just doesnt look like hes going to cut it.
