Quote:I think an argument can be raised that Joeckel has suffered from a lack of quality coaching during his short time here.  When he first came into the league, he was switched to LT, and he had to learn techniques for RT.  He switched back to LT after four games and was promptly injured and missed the rest of the season after a quarter at LT.

Then, Yarno, his pro NFL OL coach, unfortunately was diagnosed with cancer...

Top ten picks are supposed to make the Pro Bowl. These excuses remind me of excuses made for the Jaguars other top ten pick, Blaine Gabbert.

That said, he does deserve a chance to play in games this season before words like garbage are thrown around.

Quote:IIn the end, it would not surprise me one bit if the Jags line up Marcedes Lewis next to him much of the time to act like training wheels. I don't think it will be all that long before the training wheels are taken off and Joeckel starts commanding the respect that we all wish to provide him and which he is not currently receiving.

I've been thinking they may ultimately have to go this route.

Simply put, Jacksonville's line has been a disgrace. Much of that has to do with Luke Joeckel, who's been a major disappointment. In 2014, the former No. 2 overall pick finished 67th out of 84 qualified tackles in Pro Football Focus' ratings. Joeckel said he was "too light" and has bulked up to 311 pounds this offseason. Despite Jacksonville's overall poor performance, the guard play was passable last year as both Brandon Linder and Zane Beadles received positive PFF grades. Apr 26 - 8:59 AM - Rotoworld on Luke back in April.

To be fair he was put at RT then moved to LT only to be injured, and last year was a huge disapointment but maybe with the new coaches and style he can improve this year (fingers crossed or is it Sam Young)?

If Fred Taylor hardly made any then the Pro Bowl is a valueless measure.
Quote:Not garbage. (Hate how that term is tossed around so loosely here.)

He's just not playing up to his draft position.

Early first rounder playing like a fourth rounder. Hopefully we see him grow into his shoes this year. Not giving up hope just yet.

Not sure where you got playing like a 4th round pick from.

David Bakhitarri was a 4th round pick that yr and he is way better than joeckel.

Top ten picks typically don't have their position coaches miss time battling cancer.

Yes I agree completely that Joeckel is naturally expected as a top 3 pick to perform better.  I agree completely he is under performing.

But to suggest coaching absolutely has nothing to do with player development misses the point.

Why do teams hire coaches at all?

Why spend the additional millions on coordinators, position coaches, etc?

Why spend the countless practice and training camp hours going into positional drills?
Quote:Was this just a miss by Caldwell? Is the NFL too much for Joeckel? Eric Fisher too?

When he was drafted, some people where comparing him to Boselli which wasn't fair.  He'll obviously never live up to those early expectations but that doesn't mean he's garbage.
I have to assume the world is coming to an end, because from the comments in this thread, I can only conclude:

DOOM ON!

Interesting non-argument. Is it not fair to want your 2nd overall pick to play halfway decent? Are we being unreasonable?
I wouldnt say he is garbage but he is trash tho.

I myself only compared him and Bosselli in terms of they look alike.
Worrying about things one has absolutely no control over is merely foolish.

We all do it, but nevertheless, it is still foolish.

So far I believe he IS ABSOLUTELY GARBAGE

Oh okay, what would you have us do on this message board if not discuss the team and it's players?

HA !!   ..... remember, this is a message board that has 33 recent pages directly related to Justin Blackmon.

So far he hasn't lived up to Mike Pearson.

Crazy as this may sound, but each of us has the ability to ruin our day, day after day, when we only focus on the negative.

We can be mindful of the downside, but to focus on the negative does not allow the positive much room to change our mind and thus our state of being.

Who truly enjoys being in the presence of negative people other than negative people?

Thus negativity is kind of like a cancer that can spread from person to person.

In fact, negativity is the one means by which people are controlled, because it is so easy for people to turn negative.

And like war, one has to question what is it good for?

As far as I can tell, "absolutely nothing."

David Bakhitarri has clearly played better than his 4th Round pick slot.    Yet,  I wonder to what extent Bakhitarri has benefited from having Aaron Rodgers in most of the games he has played LT?

One thing I do recall is when Aaron Rodgers was injured for much of the 2013 season,   the Packers Offensive Line collectively didn't look as good as they normally do.

I was thinking of fourth rounders like Bobbie Massie and JC Tretter who are getting it done  - but not turning any heads and certainly losing some match-ups here and there.
