Give him some time...besides, we really have no choice.

Quote:Indeed Monroe was much better LT, however, he might have been injured with the Jaguars just like he was with his new team.

People forget how much flack Monroe caught around here.

No, no, everyone knew he was a great player from his first step on the field at mini-camp and Dave was a fool to trade the best player on the roster.

At least thats how they sell it now.

It definitely has to do with where they were drafted. If Joeckel had been drafted eighth overall rather than second overall I don't think people would be as hard on him. People would still be hard on him because it's a top ten pick but second overall is vastly different from eighth in terms of expectations. That's just the reality of the situation.

I'm willing to give Luke more time as it was only the first preseason game, but there is only so many horrific plays like the one Luke gave up Friday that can be tolerated before the team must look at alternative options. Remember that when Luke gives up plays like the one he did, he not only gets beat but endangers the teams franchise QB.
should of drafted Geno like some people on here wanted

Im thinking he improves a little each week working with Marrone.  Still has another month to add strength and work with Marrone before we play Carolina.

I don't think it is a strength issue.  His run blocking skills are more than adequate and that is all aggressive strength.  I keep hearing people that should know that his footwork is good so in my mind it has to be reading the situation and reacting to it.

Without supplementing PEDs, Joeckel is not going to get stronger at this point. That is for the off-season when they have more time to devote to weightlifting and dieting.

Fair point. Out of interest, then, what proportion of the top 10 draft picks from that year have made the Pro Bowl?

Based on what I saw in Friday's game, I would agree with this.

Luke actually had moments where he did ok blocking his assignment.

But I think he may have mental lapses... how else can you account for it. A lack of consistency usually has to do with mental toughness. If you can prove ability prior to and after a play you got burned on during a game, then to me it's not about strength, or footwork, or hand technique.

It's about being mentally focused enough. It's about having enough passion to go 100 percent. It's about having so much pride that you do not want to get beat. I'm not saying he has no pride or passion. Maybe he has too much and it causes him to get distracted...

I just think with Luke, at this point, it's more mental than physical.

Yeah. He seems "soft" as in just a nice guy, doesn't play to aggressively. Now he doesn't need to have Suh-like aggression. But a happy medium would be nice

Exactly!  I think he can and will overcome it.  Once he stops thinking about each situation and starts reacting he will do just fine.
Much better outing this time around not including a bogus holding call. Hopefully he'll start to stack them up from this point on forward.

I actually think upon first viewing he played better last week outside of that one Harrison sack.
Tonight was not a good game to measure improvement. The Giants did/does not have a good pass rush now that JPP looks like Chubs Peterson. Wait until the Lions.

Well to be fair, neither do the Steelers. Should we throw that game out too?
Bad holding call but he at least held his own tonight. Not sure he was going against any studs though. He needs to finish his blocks.

James Harrison is so old and he bull rushed him. Is that a confidence thing?

Could be. It was everyone's first preseason game and the Steelers 2nd. No reason to beat him up because of one miscue.

Not on the play he got the sack
