That's what I meant. I don't see a scenario where he is not here next year.

I bet he's still here, though he may not be the starter. If the bad plays continue that is.

I hope he becomes elite, I really do. Maybe a switch will turn on come the regular season.

But I'm with you, if his play continues to be inconsistent, competition should and probably will be brought in to replace him
My big thing is the level of expectation everyone has for this guy. There are improvements he is making. If you watch every game there is some contentback getting burned on a play that didn't come his way or some line backer getting pancaked *cough Merriman*. I think this scrutiny is starting to get out of hand. He is entering his third year and is a starting caliber player with still more improvement to make. That is a good starting point in the third year of a LT.

I understand analyzing the performance of a player but sometime it seems like some people take such a hard stance against a player they actually hope and want them to underperform just so their point would be proven. Some prefer this rather than the greater improvement of the team. No one has addressed those plays of Monroe getting handled that were posted in this thread but that's the guy everyone wants back lol.

I'm not saying Luke is dominating but not many third year players are. He is better than last year though and I can see that. We were upset he gave up a few hurries. Really?!? I'll take the no sacks lol

The scenario would be we draft or sign a decent player to replace him, and he is then cut or traded

Doubt it would happen.

If we draft another rookie... we might want to take the "wait and see" approach before shipping off the "vet" he is replacing....

yah mean?

He won't be outright cut, because even if relegated to a backup role, he'll be better than a lot of other options...

(Anyone remember Khawhiff Barnes? He's still in OAKLAND  :woot: )
If we were to replace LJ next year, and I hope we don't have to. I don't see any reason to cut him. Say he loses the starting role to an incoming FA or rookie, he'd be a more than capable backup swing Tackle. No reason to cut him

Pretty much my stance as well.

But there is such a small chance of that happening

chances increase every time he's on roller skates out there

I generalized that too much. While he might still be on this roster, if he doesn't turn around his play, they'll be another LT taking his spot.

Why not? If his play is terrible, he needs to be replaced.

This is too " Gene Smithish" type thinking for me. If he doesn't turn his play around, on to the next one.

Next season will be his 4th, if you're not getting #2 pick in the draft type play by then, then Its pretty safe to say you aren't gonna cut it.
His play is terrible?

Right now, yea it is. I'm not saying he can't turn it around, and that he's not our best option is right now, but his performance has been bad.

I've seen Jaguar media paint a glowing picture of just about every 1st round pick the Jaguars have had. I watch the games, and I focus on LJ frequently now with all of this talk going on.

Sorry, but if your #2 pick is getting bulrushed into your QB, or getting beaten in pass pro consistently, it's not a good sign.
I'm not convinced that he's terrible, and not sure that can be argued successfully.

However, he doesn't have to have played terrible to expect competition next year no matter how well he plays this season.

Other than two bull rushes (one of which didn't even affect the QB) he's played solid this preseason.

Just because you are critical of a player doesn't mean you want to see him fail. If LJ played like Joe Thomas all this season, id be first in line to buy his jersey.

I looked back at the top olineman of the draft 2010-present. Russel Okung, Trent Williams, Tyron Smith, Matt Khalil, Lane Johnson and Jake Matthews all had either hit stride, made a probowl, or showed huge potential by the end of year 3. LJ Doesn't come close to any of them, nor has he shown flashes of being able to be good as them. Russel Okoung missed the same amount of games as LJ his rookie year btw, and missed even more his following season.

The only two I left out were Fisher and Joekel. I've seen people on this board absolutely dump on Fisher, when he's played just as good/bad as LJ.

Btw... That bullrush he gave up last game counted as a "hurry". The dude fell into Bortles knee after destroying LJ. If Bortles wasn't atheltic or in a bad position, you would be singing a diff tune about these hurries.

I disagree, the two bullrushes are just the only plays people talk about. I've watched LJ and I'm my personal opinion, he's decent at run blocking and is near 50/50 on pass blocking.
He certainly hasn't been living up to expectations... but expectations can sometimes also be wildly unrealistic. Nevertheless, considering his draft level he has been a let down... so far. I'm not ready to throw in the towel on him just yet though. I'll wait until I've watched him through at least the first half of the season before I draw any conclusions. If at that time he is getting humiliated on the field and putting BB in dire straights too often then it may be time to pull the plug on him and move on.

Are you claiming you think he loses on 50% of his pass block attempts?
there seems to be two wrong views on this:

1.  We should cut him

2.  He's playing well

both are stupid
