Tragic indeed. This too brought back memories of 9/11 for me. I hope they can pull survivors out.
As to the being the person searching post, I’ve got a close family member that was a police officer/Vietnam vet. He tells me (more often than he needs to) about pulling bodies out of a river in Virginia from a plane crash. As far as how the SAR people go, I think it depends on their experience. I’m being told that on a cold night there were nurses or something serving hot coffee and stew while the SAR team where fishing out bloated bodies. This was probably back in the 70’s. He ate well and pulled out victims. The SAR team is probably immune (sadly) to what they’re encountering. Doesn’t mean they don’t care. They surely do care. Otherwise they wouldn’t do it. I’m sure it’s tough on them. Others, I think unfortunately seen too damn much in their lives to be affected by it. So a big thanks to those searching to pull out survivors. I cant imagine being asleep one night and all of a sudden my family being under tons of ruble.

It's my opinion that folks who do those kinds of jobs, as well as law enforcement investigating horrible crimes and medical professionals, are able to construct psychological mechanisms to deal with it. They aren't callous to it, but they know what they do is supremely important and society is depending on them.

You’re most probably correct in that opinion. I don’t see it that way because it’s not how this particular person tells it. It’s not how I was raised. You complain it’s hot, you got told you’ve never seen hot until you’re in the jungles of Vietnam. But hey, I’m weird, my brother is weird. Him and I are cut from the same cloth as this man. We just assume he too was weird. Thus hearing the stories like the one above making him seem callous to such things. But as he ages, the caring/compassionate person starts to come out. I always thought mom was the nice one and dad was the hard [BLEEP]. But as they and I get older, it seems they have fooled us over the years. Even in retirement, my dad helps anyone and everyone that needs it. Even in the community. I guess the cop in him never retired. He’s trying to be the VP of the FOP in our county. He’s a member of the county SAR team (whatever it’s called) as well. Amongst the other groups he’s a part of. So, I suppose you’re right. I never really thought of it that way. Not when my whole life I saw him as a bad [BLEEP]. Same guy that said he’d be “pissed” if he lived through all he did and died of a virus. He’s a legend in my eyes. Good call and thanks to opening my eyes to that. I’ve never really thought about it that way.

They're a different breed of people and I'm eternally grateful for them.

Though I am not one to know or understand the rules of synchronized swimming, from what I’ve seen in the Olympics on my OTA television, that looked AMAZING! Kind of hot too somehow. Those girls are certainly doing their damnedest to compete with women’s beach volleyball.
Still, one of the best Synchronized swimming routines I’ve ever seen.
