People that are confident he will be are still that way mostly going on potential and some flashes from time to time. He hasn't exactly set the world on fire, I think everyone can admit that.  What concerns me is that the conversations we're having are reminiscent of the conversations we had about Bortles his first couple of years. People will say they're nothing alike but there are a few things that are eerily similar.
  • Doesn't plant his feet.
  • Needs coached up on his mechanics.
  • Needs to improve his accuracy.
  • Needs to decrease the turnovers.
  • Is missing open receivers (as rookies do).
  • Holds on to the ball to long.
  • Great athlete able to make some sensational plays.

To be sure, there are some differences. For one, Lawrence throws a much prettier ball. He is also a more natural thrower. We'll have to see how he develops.

You forgot "bounces footballs off the receivers hands and chests instead of their feet and helmets."

That's a difference rather than a similarity so I didn't list it.
This is the type of crap they draw up in the red zone/goal line and people wonder why Trevor doesn't have more TDs... Whata joke

Creativity.

They're out there mashing up old 80's Bears and 00's Patriots tactics.

I bet the call was "X80 Z50 Vrabel Perry Cold Crank" or some [BLEEP] like that.

The below video has some criticisms if some Trevor plays, but the thing to pay attention to is what he has to say about the play designs. They seem to be wrong a lot of times.

It's part of what makes evaluating him so hard this season. Either the design of the offense has major problems, or he can't count on the guys on the field to even run the right play a lot of time. Either way he's going to need someone better running the show next year before we can even really judge him.

I watched the one he did earlier in the year on on Trevor and it was also really good.

My favorite line? “There was better stuff in 2004”

He’s not saying Trevor is perfect my any means and no one defending Trevor has said he is. But he gets absolutely no help from anyone.
I have always said he geta mulligan this year.

With that said.....

He looks really rough and it's going to be an uphill battle for him to be the Man!
They need to go back and incorporate at least 60% of the things they did offensively at Clemson going into training camp next year. A lot of spread formations with tight bunch sets around the LOS, a lot of RPO's and a lot of quick and easy stuff to get him into a consistent groove early and often.

I think that's the best start. I think you have to do this for a minimum of 4 - 6 weeks before the rest of the NFL catches onto it defensively and starts to slow it down a bit. That's where a great coach starts to earn his paycheck in the NFL. He starts incorporating elements that are similar but not too far off conceptually that his team can pull it off. He's able to specifically attack mismatches or at least move his personnel around to create a favorable match up.

There's some hope next year. The game should slow down for him. Hopefully he'll get Etienne back. Hopefully Robinson will progress faster than expected from his recovery or at least be back in the mix by the end of October. They just have to figure out a way to take the handcuffs off this kid, not play too scared, and let him do what he likes to do on the run. I really think that's what hurt this team this year. The lack of identity.
Trevor has impressed me a lot as a person. I just wait for him to impress me in games too.

This isn't something they did all year, it was a terrible idea but please don't act like they did this [BLEEP] since week 1. Trevor is playing poorly, what good does it do to live in some teal shaded denial? Do you sleep better?

You tell us? How's your bench warmer doing?
A lot of calls for TL to be benched because "safety". With so many players out with the 'rona, including 3/5's of the o-line, there are a lot of calls to play CJ instead to protect TL. So when CJ plays an undeniably better game with a practice squad lineup, what's the excuse for TL going to be then?

I wouldn't worry about that.

One could argue he does fit the face of a 2-14 team how he is playing

What would happen if they benched Lawrence and Beathard has a good game and we win it?   The off-season would be even more insane.
People seem to misunderstand me. I critiqe Lawrence for what he did at Clemson and how certain aspects of his play that worried me then are still problems now. The "He has no talent around him" argument is fair but he did the same when he had the best talent in the country around him.

And what if CJ goes out there and throws the ball so hard it goes right through a defenders chest, see I can make up things that are physically impossible too.
Trevor is a great person just like tebow was,hes also the most overrated qb to come out of college football. In clemson he had a great O-line Super defnse,a whole team around him. his WRS helped him be a good qb.  He isn't a franchise qb,i said that before the draft. we should've kept minshew,or drafted next tom brady mac jones.

What? I’m a Clemson grad. We did not have a great o-line his sophomore or junior year and he had limited weapons his junior year… We had a great team his Frosh year and good weapons his Soph year but the line was soft that year. Even softer Junior year…

I am not a college football fan but was he missing 5 yard passes at Clemson or throwing the ball off target on a regular basis like he has been in the NFL.  If not, why has it changed so much?

You're wasting your time. Arguing with these guys is like trying to talk politics with entrenched partisans. They have a system of beliefs not based in reality, you're not going to get through to them.
