Thanks *fist bump*. Those two were the only ones I could think of off the top of my vodka addled brain.

After approximately 4 straight losses this board was filled with posts from people back then saying "I just want to see improvement from the team moving forward." Now that we see improvement the LOSERS don't want to see improvement they want losses.
What improvement did you see today that would have been all that different had they lost this game in the last minutes?
To think that the players will gain just so much in learning how to win if they finish 4-12 as opposed to 2-14 is laughable. The team will learn how to win when it gets a stud QB behind Center. Period. Funny how that will all of a sudden jog their memories on"how to win", lol....
Quote:This same team doesn't win this game week three of the season.
I disagree. If this same team played that same team they beat today on week 3, they probably win that one too.
Quote:so finishing 4-12 makes you feel more proud than finishing 2-14?.... They are similar to me. ....and reprocussions of missing out on the top players in the draft that could actually make a significant difference in future records, be darned?....
You don't get it dog. All you have is a top draft pick on your brain.
Gus and Bradley approached this season with the word Improvement in mind. This team has improved since the bye week.
Now that the plan seems to be coming to Fruition we should be happy and not upset. If the team is improving winning is going to happen. I would match rather end the season with the team winning and these young guys improving.
I don't and will never understand the loser mentality. The draft should be an afterthought

Be honest, 8-8 is similar to you. You don't care about Jacksonville. That is what I am talking about in difference of fan perspective. You have placed your bet on a front runner, and expect nothing else. You want bragging rights.
Me on the other hand, will buy tickets if we win 8 games year after year, it's good for the city, it's good for my local economy.
While I would love to have a championship, those are rather rare, so I am not going to whine if we win 8 games or 5 games.
They are not meaningless wins if the team and city is respected and it keeps people buying tickets.
I don't want to be a laughinstock on the slim chance Teddy Bridgewater is our savior.
I will take 5 wins, a little respect and increased ticket sales, which might also make Free agents more likely to come here as well.
Then we take the best draft pick Caldwell can find.
Whining over wins, it's not in the Jaguars long term best interest, or Jacksonville's best interest.
Quote:C'mon MJ.....it's improvement. Any true fan wants to see improvement. They want to see that the coaches can coach and the players can play. It's not about wins and losses, but if a win is an unwanted symptom of the team getting better, I'm not gonna complain about it.
This same team doesn't win this game week three of the season. Coaches are coaching. Coordinators are coordinating. Things are gelling.
These are not bad things.
Man, I hear you. I'm glad to see better play individually. I'm glad Branch has shown something. I like seeing Cyprien or Ace show improvement. I'm glad the team hasn't quit. But I could easily see that in a loss too.
I think I've probably discussed this too much already, because it's done and nothing will change it, but I just personally am rooting for us to get the top pick in a season this bad. That to me helps the team more than a win like this one. I'd rather lose out and get our guy (admittedly, I hope) than do this same routine of 3-6 wins every year.

I disagree. What has changed is the schedule became much easier.

Well then that would be just one of the many times you are wrong a day.
Quote:You'd better run that math again. Starting in 2000 to now, how many QBs have been selected in the 3rd round or later? How many have been potentially a top 5 player? If it's 1 in 16 (at least according to you) then you're telling me that only 32 QBs have been drafted in the third round or later since 2000?
Easy. Go back to the original statement of what are the chances of finding a Brady/Wilson type.
There are 32 teams in the league. One starts Tom Brady, and one starts Russell Wilson. 1+1=2. 32/2=16.
Hence, 1 in 16.

Tell ya what TMD. Take the job as head coach of the Jaguars and then look at a locker room of pure competitors and tell them you won't give it your all if they don't give it their all. Then, go out and look the fans in the eye and tell them you're giving it your all. But most important, you look a supremely ambitious self-made billionaire in the eye and tell him you're giving it your all.
My guess is your nads would retreat upwards so far that surgery would be required to retrieve them.

Yeah, that's not really how that works. You need to look at the ratio of total QBs drafted to how many turn into that caliber of player. If you're specifically using those two guys to make a point about finding guys late in the draft (as I think you were), then you'd need to look at total QBs taken in rounds 3 or later compared to how many of those turn into that caliber of player.

For me:
The Jags showing improvement + Caldwell getting his guys in the draft
trumps
The Jags losing and not showing improvement + the Jags selecting 'my guy' in the draft.

Finding a Brady/Wilson is done via the draft. There has been way more than 32 qbs drafted since Brady.

If the Jags go 8-8 every year I find it hard to see how thats good for the city. Has the losing affected your judgement that much?? Short term, going 8-8 would seem good, but that would get old fast. 8-8 is not a "winner". The fans in Jax started to lose interest even by 2000 as ticket sales were declining and that was a mere 7-9 team.
I find it funny that you suggest me and fans like me are front runners,,,,Are you mad??? This team has been trash for the better part of the last 14 seasons! If any of us were the "front runners" you suggest, guess what? We'd have dropped this team a heckuva long time ago. I find the accusation absurd, considering.
As for not being a laughingstock team....I'd take the 1-15 or similar record in return for getting the QB that will lead us out of the consistent mediocrity. Becoming a consistent winner with some legit talent especially at the QB position is what will remove Jax from being a laughingstock.....not going 5-11 instead of 2-14.

Are you insane? They DIDN'T lose the game. Are you wanting to play the what if game?
"Well what if they didn't get in the end zone then they would have lost" so are you happy they didn't score? "What if they didn't get a first down" are you happy they didn't get a first down? "What if they threw 4 interceptions" are you happy they threw 4 interceptions?
Good Lord, I've seen ignorant and ignorant applauds failures.

LOL, thats assuming Caldwell's guy isn't Bridgewater just because a couple wins price themselves out of his reach.

There is the top 10 QBs in the NFL right now.
Seems to me you don't have to have the first pick to have a good QB.

I guess I don't see those as mutually exclusive. Some individuals are showing some improvement, but this win could have been (and nearly was) a loss, and that would have still been visible.
And it's not 'my' guy. It's Caldwell's guy no matter where we draft. I have no misconception that I get input into who they'll pick. The higher we are, the more options and chances he gets his truly preferred guy, rather than picking among what isn't already gone.

Unlike pathetic fans(you), good GMs don't hitch their wagon to one horse.

Point is there would have been very little difference, chief, and you know it. The line between winning and losing today was very fine. They didn't play all that well either way. Yet you seem to think winning this game means a lot in the scheme of things.....it really didn't. It was a lackluster game where the team that sucked less, won. There was no "learning to win" today as you suggest.
