Quote:....typical rhetoric spoken from any teams fans drafting past the first pick when guys like Manning/ Luck/ Aikman & Bridgewater were sitting at the top of each draft class'

Or Tim Couch or Jamarcus Russell or David Carr.

Ooops, I forgot to add, and Teddy Bridgewater.

Quote:Whoo! Now we can retain Henne and Gabbert and get another 2-3 wins next year! Hooray!

  I wouldnt worry about that.  We will probably just get a QB that is even worse than the two combined in a giant over reach, hyped up rookie that will fail especialy if we dont address that Oline!
Quote:Would you not admit that "sucking less" is a sign of progress?   Three weeks ago we were being widely talked about as perhaps the worst NFL team of all time.   Three weeks later we no longer hold that title.   Progress.   It means  we have a coaching staff that can get an 0-8 team to play hard.  It means we have young players who are developing.   It means we have more of a team to build around  than  we thought we had three weeks ago.   That's important.

Actually, I never bought into the "hyperbolic" worst team of all time crap. I posted before & after we came into this stretch of winnable games that we were a bad team, yes - but nowhere near the worst of all time. The Jags schedule in the 1st half was brutal. A big reason for many of the blowout losses.

That said, I don't see many reasons to be "excited" in watching the Jags' play in the 2 wins. To me it was more about the other team imploding/ the other team's poor play, than anything we were doing as the lynch pin to those wins. Had we won those games in dominating fashion, perhaps you would have a point. But thats not what happened.

The Jags are a bad team, yes. The Jags are the worst team in the NFL.....and they likely won't even get rewarded with the player they so desperately need for enduring such a season....all over a few late mostly meaningless barely wins over other unimpressive teams.
If we are drafting outside the top 2, I doubt teams will be knocking on our door to trade up. There are probably 10 teams out there who would give up a kings ransom to get Clowney or Bridgewater, so I am slowly conditioning myself that Caldwell is trading down.

And it's only just begun. We will win again.

Nah,....few people looked at THOSE QB as the same caliber player as the ones I mentioned. You could even add Stafford to your list. (if Stafford didn't have Megatron on his team, I don't think he'd be seen as all that good, either)

LOL, what makes you think the Jags will be in position to trade down?? We're not getting one of the top 2 picks. We're going to finish with 3 or 4 wins this season and be drafting around 4th or 5th overall. Out of the range for pretty much all of the star players in this draft.

LoL @ people comparing Teddy B to guys like Carr, Russell, and Couch.

Same with:

Dalton --> AJ Green

Schaub --> Young Andre Johnson

Luck --> Reggie Wayne.

And some people will tear  their hair out because we won a game.  They will tear their hair out because the coaching staff got an 0-8 team to keep trying hard.   They will tear their hair out because our young players are starting to develop.  They will tear their hair out because we will be revealed as having more of a team to build around than we thought we had 3 weeks ago.   They will tear their hair out because we are not as bad  as we thought we were.

Others of us will be glad we're making some  forward progress.

Dalton and Schaub? Yes. But Luck with an aging Wayne? Besides, no Reggie Wayne this year and no running game, and Luck is doing fine.

I know, right???

I'm trying to decipher if they actually BELIEVE that or thats just their defense mechanism taking over now that they pretty much KNOW the Jags are blowing their chances to get Bridgewater.

What young players are showing you all that much that you are so impressed?

This team looks just as bad to me as as it was 3 weeks ago....they just ran into an easier schedule. It was never "the worst team of all time". Its probably still the worst team in the NFL, though,....just won't be rewarded for it

The thing is, just because we appear to be making "forward progress", doesn't account for the fact that the two teams we played in our wins completely imploded more to their own doing and backup QB's than us actually being dominant.

Getting better is just a mirage at this point. In the scheme of the NFL talent pool, we are still bottom feeders no matter how hard these guys play for Gus.

I wish our scheduled wasn't so lopsided, because the 2nd half of this season is giving people false hope about this team. We are still VERY far away.

Putting him in the same breath as Russell and Couch is as foolish as putting him in with Manning and Luck.

I have watched all of his games. And while he is a good prospect, nothing about him makes me thing he is the sure thing you are making him out to be.

I know this isn't the thread, but I would hardly consider 20/39, 163 yards, "doing fine", for the greatest QB prospect ever.

Thats pretty much how anyone without blinders can see the situation, too.

So losing 38-8 and 41-11 two of the last three weeks is 'doing fine'?

That whole team has struggled since the loss of Wayne. They have no running game, and now have no bona-fide legit WR1. TY Hilton isn't that. Hilton is more of an Alvin Harper to Michael Irvin rather than being someone who can thrive on his own.

LOL, the above is ridiculous because even if they went 5-11 this season they will still be getting butchered. Their point differential is by far and away the worst in the league. The only way they'd stop getting butchered is if they finally turned the corner and started winning consistently and thats only happening by getting a franchise QB. Otherwise, we'll just be in this similar position next year at the same time. But the short sighted giddy like a schoolgirl over an unimpressive win vs the 2-9 Texans cannot see this.

Yep.

but thats okay. Let em' have their QB of the next decade, we've got that 13-6 win over them while they were 2-8 in 2013 to put in our back pocket!!!
They play to win the game.
