This entire thread reeks. Is there not some message board somewhere else that folks who embrace losing, failure, have a complete lack of integrity and are just generally pathetic can go post? I don't like this garbage polluting my football teams cyberspace.

If the season ended today, we would be picking first.

I still hold out hope, but at this point its more blind hope than anything. Unless we lose out, were not getting the top pick.....and we're not losing out.

You still haven't accepted that in todays NFL world you cannot win without the franchise QB. The NFL made the rules lean so far this way, so now when teams manipulate to take advantage of these rules you pout and stamp your feet. Get used to it, its not going away, either. You'll see more teams like the Texans & Colts tank in the future to get their QB, unless the rules relax from promoting a passing game so much.
People keep throwing around that a win means progress. It means we're not the joke of the league anymore (really though, we still are. People are laughing so hard at Houston because they lost to us).
But Progress can be seen without a Win. So far I don't think our progress is so great that we're not the worst team in the NFL anymore.
The best thing I take away from yesterday's game is Houston's total and complete collapse. Hopefully it's time for them to go back to the basement (and let them take the tacks with em')
But as a win, it's not made us stop being the laughing stop of the league. That won't happen until we start seeing this team NOT lose by 10 points almost every week. I think if you add a Quarterback to the formula... beef up the O-line. Improve the pass rush, and this team isn't so far off from competing for the division. Quarterbacks are hard to find. They can be found later. But that hasn't worked out very well for us. Gene Smith nor Shack Harris could do it -- and ultimately that was their biggest failure. Though to their credit -- it wasn't often we were in such a position to grab the talented QB's. I just hope that's not the case for Caldwell.
Bradley was doing a fine job imo even before the two wins. I just hope we can give him a QB so that we can see some success.
Quote:Right. And if we decide to start Stanzi or Scott to "see if he's any good", is that tanking? If you say no, then great, we have no problem because that's pretty much all the "tankers" have suggested.
If they felt that Scott or Stanzi have starting QB potential, then they would've got a shot. Unless they're grooming Stanzi to be a backup, I don't really understand why he's on the roster TBH.
To answer your question, yes I would be OK with it. But I can't fault the coaches or GM for trying to win games. It's their livelihood.
Quote:funny I think the same question for you...
I think it funny how mad you seem to get - its almost as if you have personal stake in not wanting it to get out there that teams like the Colts& Texans in fact are tanking/ have tanked in past
Mad.
Damn you're funny.
I think you're constant tap dancing and conspiracy theories are a great source of amusement.

49ers went to the SB with a running game and defense, it's not common but there are exceptions

Other than QB, they are playing a bunch of young guys to see what they have going forward. Scott was awful in the preseason and throwing out there to the wolves would be doing him and his teammates a disservice.

Kaepernick played like a franchise QB in the playoffs last year.
Granted, he regressed this season, for whatever reason......possibly due to the fact that the league is catching up to the one-read, Mariota type QB's...
All the more reason to want a QB like Bridgewater who actually has top notch command of the position and thrives in a pro-style system.
So many ad hominem attacks towards TMD without addressing his actual issue. Come on sports fans. His concern is legitimate, and if he wasn't a true Jaguar fan he wouldn't argue his point like he does.We haven't fielded a competative team in 5 years. He has a reason to gripe, much like the rest of us. To say he isn't a fan is a bit silly. He just has differing view points.
1. tanking is NOT real. Nobody except mental midgets would suggest a player or coach or team would in any way try to lose for one college player.
2. losing out hurts our city, our fans apathy, and our ticket sales.
3. Ticket sales affect our long term prospects of staying in Jacksonville. We are not the Jets or the Cowboys. We need sales NOW to remain stable.
4. Losing creates a national perception our team/city sucks, free agents that could make a difference in the future will avoid the worst team in NFL history.
5 Losing creates an atmosphere and mental mindset of losing. The mental part of the game is more important than the physical. You try to create a winning mindset
So even if some nut was crazy enough to tank for one player who is a roll of the dice, the negatives with tanking far outweigh the "maybe" benefits.
Anyone that cannot see or understand that does not care for the long term health of the Jaguars, and it's need to win now.
And finally, personally, I am not sure I will be alive next year. Anyone else talk to the big man upstairs today and get a guarantee they will be here next year?
I didn't think so. Peronally I enjoy the win in competetive sports now.
There are no guarantees in this life, whether being alive tomorrow or getting the next Manning.
However it is almost a guarantee that going 2-14 for about three more years just about assures the end result will be a move, TMD doesn't care about that at all.
He would rather have the LA Jaguars and some high draft picks the next three years, and "maybe" more future wins.( or maybe be the Lions who have had the top picks for 50 years and are no better)
Again, for this city and team right now, there are no meaningless wins, being an outsider TMD cannot understand that and never will apparently.
The one thing I really enjoy is that the last couple of wins really shut some people up. I remember earlier in the season on NFL live they were talking about how any team can win on Sunday with the exception o the jaguars. Mike ditka said that and everyone was in agreement...
WHAT NOW DITKA
Quote:Did you watch the game yesterday? Ryan Davis, Jordan Todman, Austin Pasztor, Clay Harbor, Winston Guy. What do you call it when those guys are getting playing time?
Well, Paztor and Harbor have been playing for some time. Toddman still isn't playing nearly enough. I'll give you the other two, but in general I'd call it overdue and still less than needed. We have nothing at the QB position which should produce loyalty, and it's the easiest single position to impact the outcome.
Quote:Other than QB, they are playing a bunch of young guys to see what they have going forward. Scott was awful in the preseason and throwing out there to the wolves would be doing him and his teammates a disservice.
Keenum at least started off hot, which shows you why they had enough confidence to start him, seems to be on a downward trend though, I don't think he finishes the season, I was surprised he didn't get pulled yesterday.
I don't think Scott or Stanzi could've thrown for 500 yards in their first 2 games.

That perception will not change unless we can string together multiple winning seasons. Until that point, we will be the media's punching bag.

The above is ironic because if the Jags would just bottom out this season (like I have been calling for) and would have gone 1-15, they would have guaranteed themselves a franchise QB in Bridgewater and most likely would have started a run of consistent winning seasons.
This team has a MUCH higher chance of having successive losing seasons to come, with these late season nothing wins vs bad teams that will serve us little other than just pushing us further away from the top picks in the draft. THis team needs game changers, and unless you hit the draft lottery, these players are far more likely to come at the top couple picks.
So, in a way, people with YOUR mindset and enjoying these short sighted unimpressive late season wins that don't translate to continued success are the ones unintentionally wishing the above quote.
People like me know that a franchise QB turn teams around. We want that. NOW. ....and we were in prime position to get it, until yesterday, anyway.
Quote:All the more reason to want a QB like Bridgewater who actually has top notch command of the position and thrives in a pro-style system.
me too, but I try not to worry about what I can't control, I can't blame the coaches or GM for trying to win games
I just hope that if we don't get the #1 pick, we find a way to get our franchise guy
Quote:You want grown men to swallow their pride and throw a game they are paid to professionally play and coach.
What do you care?
An honest evaluation of this roster will show most from this team will be gone in another year or two, if this GM is doing his job properly.
If Chris Prosinski is on the streets in a couple of years, I certainly don't care if he has any regrets about his tenure here.
However, if we play ourselves out of position to get an impact player-especially at QB-and that impact player goes to a division rival, or if our draft position does not allow for us to command a lot in trade, we may have regret for a long time.

Well, we held that destiny of getting a legit franchise QB in our hands, now we are going to have to hope to get lucky and win in the lottery to get that franchise QB...guess that 13-6 win vs a 2-8 team was worth it, though.... :ermm:
...and worse off, we might have just helped a division rival get that same QB.... Yay us!!!
