Coaching and preparation are definitely lacking.  That's on the whole group of coaches and if anyone in particular deserves criticism from that, it's Doug because the buck stops there.  It's hard to fully blame play calling/Press for me with execution being what it has been, but I'll be watching those 1st and 10 calls for sure these next couple of weeks to see if you are right or if they've made some changes.

I'm hoping the play calling will be more like it was in the 2nd half of Sunday's game.

I'm gonna let this discussion go, I spend most of my day yesterday griping about it.  I figure the forum could use a break from me bloviating about something none of us can control.  I just want to have that feeling back that we had last season.  I don't want us to regress back to the same old Jags.  I'm sick of that damn feeling.

Yeah. We always bite on fool's gold around here. This roster, offensively, is supposed to be the most talented we've had since the 90's. Minus Boselli and Searcy level bookends.

This team will have to scrape up 10 wins somehow this year to win the AFC South. Where they might enter the play offs again as a 4th seed with a puncher's chance to run the table.

Besides us, no one in our division has enough talent to win 10 games. I think 8 wins or 9 will be enough.

Tacks offense looks like a dried up offense of the 2002 steelers.

Texans dont have enought talent yet to compete
And the clots have a rookie QB that will get exposed eventually

Lol still thinking we are the best team in the division. On paper we should be buy paper is not where this game is played and this team hasn't looked like it's the most talented. In my opinion we shouldn't be favored in any game we play this year, maybe then the team will decide it wants to move from paper to field.

Anyone of those teams can get hot because of their QB situation though. Especially Stroud with the tinhorns. As long as he's not turning the ball over and Ryan's can figure out the defense? Anything is possible in this division.

We have the most talent, yet, we got outscored by double last Sunday in a variety of ways, couldn't keep pace or execute against the Chiefs at home when it mattered the most, and, up until the 4th quarter we were all worried about losing to the clots.

Talent is on every roster. But, not every roster's talent equates to a team. Give me the "half talented" roster that plays like a complete and functional team over the "fully talented" roster that's full of crap and pretends it's a team.

So apparently Press Taylor had playcalling duties for the entire game today against the Falcons.

Overall, it seemed fine unlike the previous games - but I just wish we could stop getting cute on 3rd/4th and 1 and run the ball with ETN or Tank. That failed conversion where TLaw got sacked on 4th down really exemplified this and we could have potentially been up 24-0 at the half.

I'd like to have this sort of thing cleaned up because these issues could come back to bite us against stronger teams.
Guess the calls were being run past Doug....the play chart was always in his hand and talking on his headset

Just like the last three games.

I'm right down the middle on Taylor's plays called
Don't love it
Don't hate it

He's calling stuff that is good enough to win all of these games so far despite the execution preventing it at times.

Now, if we're gonna get nit-picky - I would absolutely alter a few of the short yardage decisions and I would like more runs designed to go outside and more ZBS runs in general. I don't think we are getting the most out of ETN even with the o-line issues as bad as they are.

I think the passing stuff has been good more than not, and the lack of throws down field is all about the protection and not Taylor's hesitancy to call it. He's just trying to keep Trevor healthy for 17+ games.

I agree with you overall, especially on your last point. I'm fine with the pass plays downfield and completely understand the gameplanning around a massively deficient O-line we face.

My biggest issue is with the seemingly obvious playcalls that should be made in short yardage scenarios - it's like we shoot ourselves in the foot when we reach a 3rd/4th and manageable yardage. The announcers mentioned a statistic where we led the league in the number of 3rd and short plays but were last in the NFL in converting by percentage.

Again, this sort of thing might slide against underwhelming teams like the Falcons but can come back to hurt us against the better teams - and potentially be the difference in a game like the Chiefs earlier this year.
The aggressiveness will go up play calling wise in the passing game once the pass protection shows that it can be trusted to handle it. Really depends on Robinson and the chain reaction it could have for the rest of the starting lineup. I still think they could use some more bootlegs and rollouts though. Feels like Lawrence is at his best outside of the pocket. I liked his decision making today with his legs. If teams continue to play man coverage and turn their backs on him he should be doing that more often than not.

I still see this team barely getting into the post season and maybe getting lucky and winning one game. Just not much different from last year with the exception of Ridley being added offensively. The turnovers have been cut down on. Which is great. We're 2 - 2 this year after four games just like last year though. If they beat Buffalo next Sunday I think it'll come down to the offense being better overall. I have my reservations with this defense up against Buffalo's offense.

I am actually glad they're getting that bye week earlier this year just so they can regroup, recalibrate and get some guys back healthier hopefully to make some adjustments to get the rest of the season cleaned up in the 2nd half.
Buffalo looks good today so far.

I'll be surprised if we beat them next Sunday. I dont see Lawrence getting out of that game without being sacked a few times and turning it over at least once.

If I am gameplanning. I am going power, heavy formations early with twin TE sets and an extra lineman in place at times as a 3rd blocker just to try and run it at them directly and hope to wear them down.

You come out doing that bubble screen [BLEEP] like you did today with this defense? You'll get ate up for it. I would run Bigsby and Johnson more than Etienne at first and then hope Etienne is fully rested to crack bigger runs on tosses and sweeps.

Buffalo has the best interior pass rusher per win rate from what Romo said and he just wrecked that 3rd and 2 play and helped put their OT out.

Gonna be a looooooooooooooooong day for Fortner and Scherff next Sunday. [BLEEP].

Hopefully the London jet lag hangover will get the Bills.
Buffalo is [BLEEP] tough. Fast, physical. Yeah. Going to be tough. You have to run it at these guys.

This is a good looking team. The beatdown on Washington is carrying over against Miami.

McDermott is calling the defense for Buffalo. I hope they have a good plan for his defense. We'll need it.

I would keep Lawrence's pass attempts at 25. No [BLEEP]. Make Bigsby, Johnson and Etienne run it more than anything.

Incorporate some heavy formations. Nothing cute. No trickery. Kill the clock. Try and keep Lawrence healthy and hope Allen plays reckless with the ball for turnovers.

This Buffalo defense has me nervous for Lawrence on Sunday. Setting up to be a beatdown.

White down for Buffalo. Looks bad. One of their best secondary players.

Ed Oliver is a beast and Rousseau/Phillips/Jones/Floyd are no slouches either.

I genuinely hope TLaw can avoid a potential injury, let alone getting hit, because it's looking like our O-line is going to be in for a very rough matchup.

Scheming and playcalls will be especially important - and like you mentioned, I hope we see way more bootlegs and heavy formations at least in the outset.
