Would like to see them go back to this format. Just for the sake of trying something different if the line is going to continue to be the pile of dog [BLEEP] that it is.

Doug 1st half. Press 2nd half. Maybe that's honestly the missing ingredient right now. Let Doug drive the first half, get the offense flowing in the right direction and then they can pull over at half time, let Doug stretch his legs and get some rest and let Press handle it the rest of the way home.

That wasn't the way it played out last year, they could never start fast, which is probably why Doug gave up the play calls in the first half to begin with.
Yeah - I still really think the whole play calling thing is a mountain made of a mole hill.

It's the same playbook as last year with a few tweaks. We know this. Doug said it. Trevor said it. Same stuff.

Unless Doug is lying in pressers now about his OC - then they both called plays from it last year and that took us to the playoffs.

This year instead of splitting calls, one guy is calling them while the other listens in.

Meh.

Is Doug better at it? yeah, probably.
I doubt it's deciding which games we lose this year. Hasn't so far.
That seems to be falling rather obviously on mistakes and poor execution or generally being outmatched by better talent.
Meh. A lot of things I have been saying all week and during the bye week I am now hearing out of McManus on today's show.

He's sick of the shotgun [BLEEP] on 3rd and short as well and calling for different personnel and formations to help in blocking if needed.

Also calling out Ridley not being used good enough. Asking for double moves.

Nobody wants to hear excuses.

We need to move the ball forward 6 inches to gain first down. What do we do, coach?

Hike it the other way 10 feet.

It's mind numbing.

I see a lot of TE blocking happening. Not sure how that is being missed. It isn't always good, but Strange and Farrell are out there doing things. Strange has played 33% of the snaps and has 7 targets in 9 games!
What do you think he did on the 359 other snaps? Not many of them were routes.

The short yardage stuff is nothing new. Same thing last year. We've seen this failure and it is continuing.
Putting a hurt QB under center isn't likely to change much in that regard. Maybe we finish the season with Beathard that way.

I also love how everyone has amnesia about Trevor having a torn MCL when discussing the changes they demand from the offense. I don't get it.

I want to see a lot of things I'm not seeing too, I just understand why they aren't doing some of them and also don't feel confident my ideas or your ideas will actually change a damn thing. We still have poor execution happening on the things they ARE calling.

McManus says a lot of things. His analysis typically has the nuance of a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire. I love his spirit and attitude, but I wouldn't want him coaching an offense.

I'd LOVE to see this team play smash mouth football when they need to gut out a yard. I just have zero confidence they have the guys to pull it off versus most opponents.

Anyway - Pederson did show some late season tweaks in 2022 - maybe he'll make us all happy and do that again.
I just don't expect it to be anything miraculous given the line's struggles unless they find a way to shake that up.

And I feel like they should be doing MORE of the PAP [Play Action Pass] stuff.

When he's on the move he's at his best as a thrower... the more he moves? The more this offense will move.

The knee injury limited what he/they could do, Doug even said so himself.

Maybe. Sure as [BLEEP] looked good in a brace just four days later in New Orleans where he ran his [BLEEP] off.

Yes while running straight line. That's not asking him to plant/cut and roll it out etc.

Too baked to debate on my end.

"too much shotgun on turd and short" is an excuse, too.

Execute the play that is called. Period.

I'm assuming you've never torn a knee ligament and tried to change directions while running afterward.
They played it safe with him for good reason.

I have. I actually was somewhat of an athlete in high school. Short, thick and stocky. Played mostly fullback and special teams my freshman and sophomore year.

Had a grade 1 knee sprain after going too hard on stadium runs during practice one day and I missed a step flat footed and put too much weight on my left knee on the way up after catching the step in front of me barely with my toes and front portion of my foot. Basically rolled all 285 pounds forward of my body weight on the upper left portion of my foot. Which caused me to shift all my weight upwards and onto that knee. Sucked.

Thankfully it wasn't an ACL. It was just an LCL. That injury kept me from playing football for about three weeks. It honestly throbbed and would feel at it's worst while sitting in class all day. Felt like something was constantly biting my knee or stabbing it with a very fine needle every 5 - 10 minutes.

It actually felt better when I kept moving, lightly jogging on it. Couldn't go full speed or anything too crazy, couldn't lift heavy for awhile, which bummed me out but I at least tried to test it a few times.
I thought there was nothing wrong with Trevor? It was everyone else's fault, wasn't it?

The Blame for the 'bad' playcalling was always put on Press, not "Trevor is dealing with an injury so we can't run the usual plays".

It turns out that when Trevor no longer was as limited the playcallers changed the plays and the offense was much better. What a coincidence.

Suddenly the o-line was better too. Truly a coincidence.
At the 9:02 mark, Trevor sings the praises of Press Taylor.

Yeah. "Just when I thought Press was going to call a run play he would call a play action".
I loved the way Press called this game. Hopefully he calls another good game this week
