We're doing it a little differently -
I counted everything inside the tackles - nothing outside the tackles - and there are 2 runs that ETN ran at guard gaps that were filled so he bounced outside to make something of nothing

It's 9 designed and called runs between the tackles on first down.

I don't have time right now - but when I watch the all 22 tomorrow or Thursday I'll grab screen caps of them all to be certain about what gaps he's trying to hit on each of these. The play by play isn't always accurate on those little descriptors.

For what it's worth - I've been wanting fewer inside runs since week two and welcome it. Just trying to be accurate here.
I'd be happy if only 10% of the runs went inside on early downs unless we start to see a shift in performant from our interior line.

My only intent was to say that while I want/welcome fewer early inside runs - we didn't see any major sea change in play calling.
The game plan for the bills clearly included some wrinkles with the end arounds and a bit more aggression through the air and that's awesome. Makes sense.  When the opponent are down their best CB and banged up at two other secondary spots - you gotta do what challenges those weak points.

That's true.

And I do agree with your overall statement that the play calling in general has been pretty similar across all games.

Even with your 25% number, against Indy and Buf we had the lowest percentage of inside runs on first downs, and the highest offensive points scored. I think getting out there and being aggressive from the get go is working for us and getting Trevor into a rhythm quickly. The actual play designs for all the rest of the game(s) have been good with WRs getting open consistently. The execution these past two weeks did much more than the lower number of inside runs against Buffalo.

Agreed on all points

Biggest difference this past week for me was still clearly Trevor being ridiculously accurate and on time on third down conversion passes

That's some wild stats.

People were just clamoring about Ridley being force fed and Engram was being ignored... guess not.

That's also with Zay Jones missing a few games already this year with his knee issue. Still managed to haul in two TD's with Lawrence. Once he's fully cleared from his injury and healthy I think this offense opens up even more.

Zay has panned out way better than I ever imagined he would. So many times hes come up big for us. Tough seeing this offense struggle to pull everything together in the beginning. Hopefully by playoff time everything will have came together. The potential for this offense is insane.

Yep. It's only a matter of time. If they can manage to go up 6 - 2 before the bye week it's even more impressive how they've managed to do so.

A healthy Little at LG and Robinson getting back into the swing of things at LT will also help. Harrison has been impressive as a rookie RT. I think Strange and Bigsby will start adding more value and production as well.

We're right around the corner I feel like.

Agreed - with all linemen healthy and all targets available, this thing hitting on all cylinders will be nutzo
Isn't it nice to have aspirations for post season instead of starting threads with who we should take at #1 in the draft lol
Its completely unfathomable how and WHY we run a slow developing play from shotgun on the 4th down call...

Now the Saints have scored and made this a tie ball game.

One or two stupid calls can really be the "cherry on the top" in games like these.
Heavy reliance on gadget plays and players tonight.... Most of the night was just bad execution, but several dumb play calls tonight. Shotgun on 4th and inches, all the reverses/sweeps, AGNEW, etc. Use our receivers and leave the punt returner for returning punts!

I’m glad we won but definitely some questionable play calls.

I personally think you should punt there. The defense and the audience knew that Trevor wasn’t sneaking and it was an ETN run. Your defense has played decent, just tired. Pin them deep.
I liked going for it there. Absolutely hate shotgun.

I’d have brought Beathard in for a sneak. We weren’t running an option play with Trevor anyways

I liked the fullback handoff we did against the Colts with Bigsby. Need more of that.

Yes good point. That was a nice way to sneak tank in there at full back
The s3cond half play calling was really really bad.

The team might well have been spent from the prior 3 weeks and Doug might've realized that and felt the need to scheme this game up a bit more.

We should be thrilled with a short week ugly win and excited the guys get a few extra days to heal up

Getting Zay, Little, Hamilton, Campbell back after the bye is gonna set us up for a run
Buckle up!!

The WRs were definitely tired and maybe even banged up a bit. I think Cook even got out there for 1 play. I'm shocked they didn't use 2 TE formations then and run the ball. The TEs are good but they chose to use Agnew, T Jones, and #14 for at least 1 play.

My body is ready
Thought it might be fun to start pointing out some good play calls and the ways we ARE getting it done.

On the Jags first possession they scored a TD after giving Agnew an end around that nearly scored but he was tripped up inside the five yd line. He gained ~ 12 or 13 yards to set up ETN's run in.

The next possession - with Agnew fresh in their minds they tease the end around putting Agnew in motion but hand off to ETN instead.

Ags pulls the DB to the wrong side of the play and makes the LB on the weak side cheat a step the wrong way as well.  Then Engram comes over to chop the strong side end while Robinson blocks out the LB who'd fill the gap.

Great play, great misdirection, perfect set up from prior drive and ETN gets 5 painless yards.

I dig this.
This stuff works when everyone times it right and each assignment gets executed.
I think a number of these types of runs are shot down each week when a TE or OL player can't get to his guy, doesn't block well, or a defender sniffs it out instead of being baited.
