I don't care what you call if you can't block anyone

And now they don't event utilise it

I just read that. There was definitely a difference in the offense after halftime, but that kick return for the TD doomed any chance of a comeback.

If true it needs to stay that way going forward.

Well this corroborates everything we speculated previously.

Press Taylor is absolutely terrible as a playcaller and has rightfully been stripped of those duties for the sake of this teams success. Hopefully the team manages to look and play competently with Doug back at the helm, but I fear that our woes stem from both terrible coaching decisions and absolutely abysmal on-field performances by our players through 3 weeks.

Doug needs to emphasize the penalty problem in addition to the myriad of other issues, because its evident that our team can't overcome a minor deficit especially when we endure self-imposed errors.

This isn't an overreaction but rather, a straightforward observation that our team (from coaching down to players) are absolutely in the bottom echelon of the NFL so far. And the issue I take with this, like many others, is that we all EXPECTED an improved product carrying from the second half of last season - which is why this stings a little more.

Sure, "we're only 3 weeks in" but damn it if we don't get this sinking ship turned around quickly, we're going to be in some deep water with regards to the season.
Pederson needs to grow a pair and tell his buddy he lost the job of play caller. Period. Learn from your own history, dude.
It was short lived. It is what it is. Still think the execution is pig slop. Pretty [BLEEP] Taylor gets punished in a sense when:

1. Lawrence freelanced and lost on 1st and Goal last Sunday.

2. Commentator was grilling Lawrence today for missing wide open options downfield with enough time to execute.

3. Ridley couldn't catch a cold today. Even with passes right on the money.

4. Agnew had his 3rd or 4th fumble now over the last 4 games we've played.

Sounds like Press was challenging these guys more and trusting them more and they let him down. Interesting turn of events.

If challenging them means working against their abilities then what is that accomplishing? Not a damn thing for us. There is no room for this kind of 'tough love' in regular season.

Look, I get it. Somebody has to take a fall but it feels pretty, pretty [BLEEP] at face value. I saw a QB look off against the Chiefs, sail passes, miss a wide open Zay Jones and Brenton Strange.

I saw similar miscues today with Ridley and Agnew being the biggest momentum killers. Scherff ruining a great 4th down conversion with a good play call.

Just find it interesting. It would be one thing if the offense looked like, say, Chicago or New York. But, they haven't. 31 points in week one. 0/7 in the redzone in week two. Dropped passes, a fumble, an INT and multiple missed options downfield with horrible special teams today.

I don't think Press Taylor deserves to catch hell for all of that.

What happens if they fail to execute with Snoop Dougy Doug calling the plays? Buffalo thumped the hell out of Washington today. It'll be interesting.

Fins Raheem Mostert outscored us all by himself.

Yeah. Tends to happen when you hold onto the football long enough and actually execute the play calls to the best of your abilities.

Miami is disgustingly good though. That's the team to beat as far as I am concerned. Cannot wait to see them and Kansas City square off.

Right?! Love how McDaniel designs plays. And the Chiefs lit it up today, too.

Will Pederson finally tell us the truth in a few weeks that Press never called the plays last year?

The problem is, all of the dump offs do not help the blocking situation.

Teams can pretty much line up in blitz against us 90% of the time, because it’s effective against the short dump off plays, run plays, and when they actually need to get to the QB.

If we were willing to stretch the field early on we’d see more line backers dropping back into coverage and less blitzes.

That's a glimmer of hope I suppose, but with SO many players making SO many mistakes, my gut says it will be up to the coaching staff to get these guys back on track. Time for a reality check in those meeting rooms.

We saw this team go from an insanely undisciplined mess to a well oiled machine, and now back to undisciplined mess.   The miscues, penalties, and all the unforced errors in general point to coaching for me.  Perhaps they've let these players believe their own hype too much, or perhaps a few mistakes in practice aren't being taken as seriously as they once were. Don't know how the slop has found a way back in - but it has.

Cleaning up the dumb penalties and executing most of the plays they bungled with unforced errors (dropped passes, off-target passes, busted coverages, missed tackles)  would change the scoreboard over the past two weeks tremendously.

Not discounting other issues within this org - but just this simple stuff ^ would go a LONG way toward righting this ship.

This is why I think it's a shame Press is taking the fall for all this negative... well, press.

It's not the play caller. It's the players. Anybody with eyes can see what happened last Sunday and yesterday.

Poor effort up front with the blocking. Which, looked better against lesser talent to contest with.

The obvious drops and fumbles. The missed opportunities downfield with open receivers and bad throws.

These guys are rusty. In fact. If you look around the NFL. After three weeks? Virtually every team now has performed like we have performed or worse.

With the exception of Miami and San Francisco. Which is interesting considering where McDaniel came from. Two, innovative play callers with players EXECUTING the plays.

Tua doesn't seem to miss wide open targets. Brock has the best defense in his corner but he's getting execution out of McCaffrey, Samuel, Aiyuk and Kittle.

We're just not executing man. Same damn issues earlier on last year. Took them until midseason to fire on all cylinders. Hopefully Doug gets them going before late October.

My guess is that with the success in the second half of the season last year Doug was thinking his player leaders were experienced and mature enough that he could rely on them to self-motivate. He probably figured that the discipline on the roster would come from the top down. Based on the sloppy play on offense, I'd say that's a fail. The defense hasn't been awful but like in some past years they're obviously starting to lose motivation as they see the offense's ineptitude. The lack of a reliable pass rush certainly doesn't help though.

All in all, it's a mess right now but it feels like it's correctable. But it needs corrected now.

Why not kick thru the end zone? He's got the leg for it. I cringe every time they kick short like that. Bad decision. They had the momentum, then they didn't.
