In view of the fact that the fin's just fired their head coach... who has at least a 16 game better record than Gus has, I would have to think that Shad Khan, if not Dave Caldwell, might be looking at Gus with a slightly different attitude now.

I doubt it.

The Dolphins went all in this year. They had high expectations for the team after making big free agent acquisitions. They're underperforming against expectations in a huge way. There weren't similar expectations for the Jags this year.
The Miami HC had a way better record than Gus Bradley (heck he was only two games from being .500), but firing Gus Bradley isnt going to turn this team around this year.

It makes more sense to let the year play out and if its another 3 or 4 win game season the Owner will most likely fire Gus.

Quote:Well, he should have coached the kicker better and coached the penalty makers not to make penalties obviously.

I normally agree with you on a lot of things but on your second point, we both know penalties are a reflection of lack of discipline. That's on coaching

Historically there aren't many coaches worse than Gus in terms of wins and losses.... the statistics are against him lasting past this season.

But like I said, Dave could be keeping him just so that the lack of roster talent isn't made apparent to Khan before the end of the season
Quote:Sadly, yes, we are. But we were 32nd the last two years, so anyone who isn't happy with this astounding improvement simply can't be pleased by anything the jags do.

Well, as they say...

There are facts, and then there's complete bull [BLEEP]

This might upset some folks for some odd reason, but the Jaguars are 16th/32 in offensive production.

They are moving the ball well.  They just don't have the points to show for it.  That's the issue.

By comparison, we ranked 31st the previous 2 seasons in terms of yardage. I don't think you can classify that as anything but at least improvement even if the end results have been lacking. And we can't even attribute that to garbage time as in years past since we've only really been in garbage time against the Patriots.

I guess the next logical step in progression is actually getting into the end zone. Let's hope that starts happening sooner rather than later.

Okay, so penalties are all about the coaching?  Is that what you're saying?

In 2014, the Jaguars were the least penalized team in the league.  Right now they're in the middle of the pack after 4 games, but the officials have thrown a record number of flags league-wide this season.  The penalties are frustrating, but I don't think coaching is the biggest factor behind why they're happening.  You've got a lot of situations where we're getting hammered with ticky-tacky penalties.  How is coaching going to fix that?

Coaching can only take things so far.  At some point you have to expect the players on the roster to execute.  They managed to figure it out last year, and I would expect to see them clean that up as best they can as the season progresses.

The offense has improved in most areas other than scoring, but I suspect that will start to show signs of life soon enough.  We've got to figure out how to put the ball in the end zone when we're in the red zone.  With Thomas returning at some point, that will help.  The team suffered a setback losing Linder, but Cann should eventually get in synch with the line.  That will help.  Opening up the play book and utilizing the things Bortles does well should help as well.  I expect to see things continue to improve.

Yes, because that's a strategy that's going to assure Caldwell has a long career in the NFL.  Do you even realize how ridiculously silly some of your comments sound?

Someone mentioned public flogging.

I'm all for it and it'll make me feel better..
It's a crawl to maturity

I mean, you don't think Caldwell is actively thinking of ways to save his own butt?
Quote:So if you don't think he will survive the season, why keep him? Why delay the inevitable?

Thinking and knowing are two different things. Was this question really necessary?
Why wouldn't he be? He should be

Weren't you just done posting a few posts ago? Is this board just not miserable enough for your satisfaction?

My favorite parts about his posting, as if there isn't enough real stuff to complain about he continues to just make [BLEEP] up.
Hey. This thread still a thing?

Okay! See ya later!
