Quote:we sure about that? I heard Toby was only a 500,000 cap saving if cut.

3.5 mil was Toby's hit.

Yes, #Jaguars pick up $3.5 million by releasing Toby Gerhart. That's a nice discount on Ivory in first year.
Quote:We had very obvious problems in short yardage and goalline situations. Yeldon is great on 1st/2nd down, and Ivory will significantly help Short/Goalline.

Fixes a major problem. I'm good with it.

We had goaline issues because we have a dunce cap as a coach who puts gerhart in the game and runs him up the middle 4 times in a row. Yeldon had one of the highest short yardage and goaline conversion rates of any RB in college history
Quote:So, now that we just MASSIVELY overpaid Ivory, we're down to like what, 68-72M for the rest of Free Agency?

Damn guys, I'm not sure if we can recover after this boneheaded move by Dave. Just a MASSIVE overpay. 6M for a very solid ideal compliment to our starter? No guy should get paid more than 2M at RB to be a compliment.

Exactly. People are forgetting that part.

Is 6mil a year overpaying? Of course.

Welcome to Free Agency.

It's not my budget to manage. If it makes the team better, I'm happy.

Even with a bone head coach I would guess a 240 pound man would be able to get into the end zone on 4 tries 1/2 yard out.

Don't you think... just maybe... he was letting him seal his own fate...???
Tweet from Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) - So Chris Ivory and TJ Yeldon will share backfield in Jacksonville.

I mean... I'm not gonna argue against that being ridiculous, but you'd hope your Short Yardage back could get the 1 yard with 4 tries... I want to belive Ivory could have got in there.

Ivory > Gerhart. I'll take improvements and be happy Smile
@AaronWilson_NFL Texans held preliminary talks with Chris Ivory, who's now expected to join Jacksonville Jaguars on deal worth over $6 million per year

Dude, shut up.
I'd be surprised if he can stay healthy for the full season with his history and running style so Yeldon will get lots of carries. Love the signing though.
If our coach put a player in so that he could fail and be cut at the cost of us winning then we have even more problems than I thought.

This tells me we might have wasted yet another high round pick in Yeldon.. you dont take a rb early 2nd to be a 10 carry a game guy... thats yet another wasted draft pick. You guys can koolaid spin it all u want, but strait up this is a bad signing.. whether we have the money or not is irrelevant. Tells me they dont see Yeldon as a true 3 down RB that they told us he was when they drafted him. That is a problem

I think he was trying to win a football game moreso than making a point... Just so happens it was one of the worst sequence of calls that I have ever seen.
This is all about the Jaguars getting better.

Malik Jackson makes this team better.  Chris Ivory makes this team better.  As long as we don't spend so much to jeopardize our future (meaning the ability to resign guys like blake, the aliens, telvin, etc) then I'm all for it.

I certainly didn't think Yeldon had yet earned the payload as a feature back.  If he does despite the shared load... fantastic!

We're back to two starting caliber RBs again.

That worked well with a backup caliber QB.

Should work that much better with a QB the caliber of Bortles.

If we paid $5M for Gerhart, I'll gladly take Ivory for $6M

We need some guys like him on both sides of the ball.

THATS the Krazy_Jville_D that we all know and loathe!
Tweet from Charlie Bernstein (@nflcharlie) - The #Jaguars had just five rushing touchdowns last season, two of them by Blake Bortles. Chris Ivory should help in short yardage.

That's the point.  You deliver what you're paid to do.  If not, what we see is the consequences.  It's not causal, it's the effect.
