Quote:Even though anything can happen and i'm not "expecting" Vernon. It's obvious Vernon was 1b to 1a of Malik. We had one of the worst pass rushes in the league and that hindered where we could go. Vernon fits in as an ideal vet pass rusher who is young and still holds upside of being a 10+ sack guy, as he's done it before and is only 25 years old.

We may not land him, but we are definitely the favorite. No doubt in my mind. We have a ton of money the next couple years, we aren't going to miss out on a guy that is a main target that is leaving his team.

Last year we lost McCourty and Cobb because they returned to their home, winning teams. Vernon isn't going home.
That's really key. They also stayed on championship caliber teams.

The Jags make too much sense for Vernon. Up and coming team in his home state, the most money and even more money.
Quote: If this proves to be correct, I'm surprised that new Lions G.M. Bob Quinn is investing this much in a WR, even with Calvin Johnson's retirement and the need to compliment Golden Tate. Quinn was in the Patriots organization for the previous 16 seasons and they rarely invested heavily in a WR. Up to this point, Quinn has been following a Patriots blue print. Having said all of this, Marvin Jones is probably the best WR option on the open market.

Tweet from Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) - Patriots were in play for Marvin Jones and the Bengals tried hard to get him back before the Lions snagged him (@diannaESPN on the Det news)

Quote:@Finsinsider According to @JeffDarlington on the NFL Network, Jaguars were ready to offer Vernon a front-loaded contract so Dolphins couldn't match.

Anybodys game now.
Fun stuff to keep track of today..

Anyone else giddy?
Quote:This just simply doesn't matter on a singular case by case basis. Yes, it means we should get overall the best crop of total guys if we want to go all out...but if a team with 15+ mil in cap space (which is over half the league) is dead set on Vernon, and Vernon wants to be there, then us having 60 million and X team only having say 20 mil doesn't really make any difference.

Well yeah, if Vernon is dead set on going to one place that's one thing. I doubt that's the case, I firmly believe the guy wants to just get paid though. He also has always been in Florida, I'm sure TB and JAX have the leg up there.

On top of that, when we have a high end top FA, I like our chances with Dave doing whatever is needed. Cobb and McCourty would have come here if they didn't go back to their respective teams.
@PriscoCBS Love the brutal honesty of Olivier Vernon in his @MMQB story. He is going for the payday. Of course.

Nervous.

This is what I mean. We very well could lose on Vernon, but the guy is going to best fit/place he wants to play/$$$

Feel pretty confident if he had a choice he'd prefer to stay in Florida. Not like I'm his agent/family member and know this for a fact though.
Looks like Illoka is off the board. Staying with Bengals
Malik is going into his age 26 season.

Vernon is still only 25.

Both relatively young..

Vernon would hate ny very win this minute or hear about it.

And both capable pass rushers, which we don't have outside of Marks. Fowler has major upside, but you can't expect that if this is a must win season. If it's not Vernon, gotta grab Ayers/other upside pieces along with draft a guy.

Good. We need a safety with ridiculous range. That's what we lack the most.
Why on Earth are the Dolphins happy to let a good young pass rusher go and replacing him with an old guy who obviously gave up last year.

@albertbreer The Bengals are closing on a five-year deal worth about $30 million with S George Iloka, per source.

#becausefins
Thats not a bad price for Iloka I reckon

Told people dolphins been a mess since taylor left. Jordan elsewhere would shine.
Dolphins love "building" through free agency and busting in the draft.

Its their "thing"

Iloka went back to the bengals for chump change ugh
I've got a bad feeling we are going to miss out on Vernon. Either that or it may be the tacos I had last night
