Hey, at least it wasn’t an ACL.

Sign Gabe
Cut Zay
Draft 1st round WR

Or keep Zay as the #4?

Bc you can't go in there with Kirk, Davis, Zay and expect any better than what we had this year. If anything it would be a significant downgrade.
If they sign Gabe and Ridley, Zay is gone. If Ridley walks and they sign Gabe, I think they keep Zay and draft BTJ or Adonai Mitchell. Then Zay is gone in 2025.

I think you'll see the passing game be better just because they signed Morse. Morse has played with Mahomes and Josh Allen. He makes every single play on that Oline better.

100% agree with this. Interested to see how the next couple days shake out.

I'd like to see a play for Kenny Moore to play Nickel, Or a cheap deal to Nixon as DB depth and Agnew return replacement
Also hope Josh Uche signs here.

If they nab Morse, Uche, Okudah, Ridley on day 1, I'm pretty good with it.
It is great to bring in a center with so much experience to the team. This move will create competition for Fortner to step up his game. He picked us over the Steelers and other teams as well. He has experience playing under Doug in KC.

I am glad that we brought Ezra back as well. At first reports it looked like a slight overpay, which is the norm in FA, but once the details came out the contract was a very good value for the team. I really like the flexibility and athleticism that this player brings to the unit.

I think that Tugboat will be given the opportunity to compete for the IOL backup role. If he wins this job, it could be the end for Shatley and CVL on the team.

Overall I think that we are in a pretty good place going into FA and the draft with this unit. No glaring needs (with the addition of Morse), yet the flexibility to add to the line if someone falls into your lab in the 3rd wave of FA once the majority of cap money has been spent or BAP in the draft.

Only real glaring need is a DB opposite Campbell followed by WR depending what happens with Ridley. Other than that, Morse instantly makes me feel so much better about this team next year

Actually I like it. Lots of experience. He has been good and bad at times. He survived the bad regime of Bill B after Brady left exposing that coach as a 45% winner without the GOAT playing for him.  Tough duty following Brady in New England. He will challenge for the backup role.

Remember the game where he threw 3 passes because they didn't trust his arm in the wind?

Good times.

This, also save 2 mil this year

Mac costs 2.7, so you actually lose money AND a pick.

Ope.

In reviewing spotrac, Mac Jones is set to make a little more than Beathard was this year but I'm not sure how current year salary that has not yet been paid is treated in a trade like this where it was guaranteed by the trading team who drafted him.  If it's paid for by us and accounted for by us, then our cap hit of carrying Mac on the 53 vs. Beathard actually goes up a bit this year.

We are on the hook for the salary and any likely to be earned bonuses in 2024. NE eats the remaining signing bonus as dead money.
The big takeaway to me before the FA period has started is that we have signed or traded for 3 players that WANTED to play in Jacksonville. This is a pretty big deal if you look at the big picture in an ultra competitive business such as the NFL.

The other teams bid a ham sammich, turkey on white, and a pastrami on rye.

Not sure why we threw a draft pick in there with our olive loaf offer, but there ya go.

Woulda been happier using the pick on a guy like Milton or Hartman. Gives you time to know if they are your future backup and even cheaper than a potentially broken Mac.

We'll expect better hopefully due to an increase in time to throw for Trevor even with a perceived downgrade to the WR corp.  I also liked what I saw of Parker Washington to close out the year, but you can't go into this season assuming him to be anything more than a 4.  Hopefully he proves that assumption wrong and continues to ascend.

One of the points of free agency, however, is to plug all your perceived holes prior to the draft so that you aren't pigeon holed into having to draft one or two position groups solely out of need with your early picks.  If we're replacing Ridley with something, I would think Gabe should be one of the better bargains at the WR group in free agency.  I would also think they keep Zay given what we've seen him do when healthy in 2022 and because of the apparent rapport he and Trevor have.  Also, I think as a courtesy, you cut guys you don't plan to keep prior to free agency so that they have an opportunity to get the best deal elsewhere they can find.  It's just good business.  Having not heard anything about Zay getting cut to this point, I think that likely means he won't be.

Also, since he was taken in the first round does the 5th year option travel with him?  Just curious...

I would not worry about that.

I can understand that. We have so few LB's we probably need more.

We can probably save like 30 bucks signing him and cutting Oluokun. Masterclass!

Bet we could have gotten him if we offered a Maroney Balogna

Imagine the hysteria on this board if they deal Jones in the preseason for a 4th or 5th. People gonna lose their minds, lol.
Morse was the 20th rated center last year

Anyone know what Fortner was ranked as?
Regarding Ridley, should he be considering the value of playing on a contender and becoming a potential name in a community after retirement by sticking somewhere versus bouncing around and potentially playing with a bottom feeder? Of course if the chefs offer him a top of market deal, all bets are off, but if it's between us, the Pats and the Panthers or something similar and we're $2 million less per year than the top bid, is that enough for him to forgo a potential championship run(s) and becoming a local celeb for years to come (with local endorsement money even into retirement if he wants it, maybe even national endorsement money if we get the rings) versus being forgotten about here in 5-10 years? I know it's a bit bird in the hand vs two in the bush, but what do we think the value of that is? It's hopefully worth something to him. I think a less than top of market offer to Ridley is probably plan A and Gabe is probably plan B at a presumably much lower cost.

36th. He really was rated lower than 5 other teams' back up centers.

Not upset with that either, he's a cheap back up with some experience. I don't want him to start, but he did ok in spot work last year.
Higgins wants out.

Offer the compensatory 3rd and extend him for probably cheaper than someone will throw at Ridley.
